Good grief!!! The nightcrawlers I bought are bigger than my snakes!!!!! This is the right kind, right?? I asked for nightcrawlers and did not realize how huge they are till I got them home...

So I put one in a baggie in the freezer so I can work up the nerve to chop him up into yummy bite sized pieces. Do you all normally find smaller sized worms??

Thanks guys!!

Sigh.... yeh. I get it. I'm gonna have to take the "rescue" off of my name if I keep chopping up small creatures. It's kind of a contradiction... lol

look at it like this there almost always has to be a death in order for something to eat, weather thats a plant or an animal so on and so forth:D
so I think your safe with keeping the rescue on there for now........:D

I'm going to tell....you chopped up a worm, and you're meant to be a rescue type person. I'm shocked, I would never harm another living creature!

water your yard real well just before night....you should be able to find smaller ones in the yard..as long as it's not being treated with any chemicals. we have what I always called angleworms....they are small, abouit 2-5 inches and thin. they don't have the purple heads that nightcrawlers do. they are easier for the snakes to eat....I usually can get a bunch after a heavy rain here during the day, or a long night of rain.

Joe

no no no
do not try red wigglers!
they are totally repulsive to garters

Lori P
09-26-2007, 06:09 AM
Joe, I thought red wigglers are bad??

Anyway, the whole gritty nasty worm massacre all turned out to be for naught... they looked at those bits and pieces and told me, "You have GOT to be kidding. That's disgusting. What do you take us for??" And so Eddie Lizzard ended up getting the whole mess. (He's not as snobbish as the snakes.)

James, I apologize for calling you smelly. I'm sure that's not what I meant. Hmm, what did I mean? Anyone care to supply the correct word?? LOL :-)

Thanks you guys!!!!!!! :-)

my little sal will only eat worms that are cut in small pieces as well, I HAVE TO CUT THEM AND ITS GROSS.
I also hate this , but hey hes got to eat and I do not want him to die.. so I force my self to do this, and its okay ...
I think god/creator understands
we are helping creatures so dont get to down on your self.
James shame on you telling like that !!!
heeeee heeee haaaaa...

Well you could compromise and only cut a couple of inches off the “bum” end and release the other half back into the wild, it should survive just fine, just a little shorter than its buddies, and still should even still be able to mate (the “naughty bits” are in the front half).:D:D Did I get the terminology right Lulu?:D:D

I think whatever powers created worms, designed them to be cut up
why else would they have nine brains?

Lori P
09-27-2007, 05:59 AM
Wow.. I am learning more about worms than I ever really wanted to. Nine brains?? Naughty parts in the front?? I may never look at a worm the same again... lol :-)

Terry, what part of NY are you from? I'm from a little town oustide of Buffalo originally. :-)

Lulu Bennett

nine brains?? cool!!

stonyloam
09-27-2007, 07:53 AM
They also have 5 hearts. That collar behind the head is part of the naughty bits. I live in Victor, just east of Rochester.

Lulu Bennett

does anybody know the reason for 5 hearts and nine brains?

does anybody know the reason for 5 hearts and nine brains?

not 100% sure, no
but I've always thought it was so they'd go on wiggling when they're cut up

There's no reason, but there's probably some benefit to having a bit of redundancy. ;)

with 5 hearts and nine brains I guess that would insure you a chance to use your naughty bits............:D

does anybody know the reason for 5 hearts and nine brains?

Well... they are both male and female in one body...........:D:D:D:D

Lulu Bennett
09-28-2007, 12:33 PM
so i am guessing 1 of each belonging to the male and the rest to the female because we all know we are the brighter species and with all the heart :D

you ever taste worm?

CrazyHedgehog
10-01-2007, 04:30 PM
years ago, digging for worms in a forest, I unearthed a huge one, grabbed with both hands but it pulled away...
I searched for ages, I thought I had found a new species at the time, followed the hole it made, and dug down about 4 feet, but it was long gone and it got too dark!
