Make sure if you feed a lot of salmon to give your snakes a multivitamin and calcium powder supplement every once in a while.

Just read the labels, the calcium powder is pretty much all the same, and just look around for a reptile multivitamin on the shelves. I'm sure you can use the lizard stuff, I can't see how it could possibly hurt your snakes.

That happened to my garter...so a transparent bowl (platic) with some male guppies get the attention of the snake, put the salmon stripes next to the bowl and she will smell them...in my case my snake was about 2 or 3 weeks without eating, she was on a full live fish diet (but parasites and surgery changed my mind), and that trick worked for me. :D

If you drop some of the salmon strips into the water with the live fish, the snake will bump into them while it's fishing and should seize them. In time you can dispense with the live fish (and the water!).

:o Thanx. Hopefully it will work for you too :p

If you want a picture, I'll be glad to post it. By the way my terrarium has now changed, my snake can stand by her own until she reaches the top, I think the diet of trout, trout with fish bones & skin, earthworms and a live guppie once in a while has worked like a charm, she's now 15-20 cm longer since my firs post :D

I'll try the same with the babies as soon as my 3 fat guppies give birth...only 2 of 6 are eating stripes of trout

I would use a pinkie/ live fish switch on the feeding days.
Garters are pretty intelligent snakes, you cant over look the the mental stimulation of live fish, I mean they are just sitting in a cage all their life they need some excitement . Pinkies will eventually lead to larger mice sizes that are a good meal nutritionally.
