Help Identify!!

I had to make a house call tonight to get this little bugger......its just a baby about 10inches and I know its either a Milk Snake or a Rat Snake
as adults of both have been seen in the area, but this one was in my cousin's house......:D

id say its a milksnake, baby black rat snakes look simalar, but i thinks its a milksnake

Yeh, I'd have to agree with Ben, looks like an Eastern milksnake (L.t.triangulatum)

I don't know much about them, but do they usually shake there tail is if
they were a rattler....lol:D it is very funny to watch.....

The tail-shaking is a normal behaviour in many Lampropeltis species.
If the snakes lays in dry leaves it sound like a rattler.

Yeah I wasn't sure witch it was because there has been other milk snakes
seen by my cousins house as well as they had a 5 foot black rat snake on there roof and the guy from next door to them killed it:mad: but this one was in there house and I know they kinda look alike when there young.....

I remember the first time I saw the behaviour of the tail shaking... it scared the **** out of me... didn't expect it at all:eek:

Justin, your find is a Milk Snake. The photo below is a JV Black Rat. A good bit of difference in the markings.

hey,
what super looking little Eastern Milksnake!!it's been many years since Ive' seen or even heard of one in our area,sad.,with it being only a few weeks old,in know time he'll be taking thawed pinkies.he'll grow a good 1 inch a month,but with it being wild caught,around Oct/Nov it could stop eating for a bit,just make sure he's got daily water,keeping trying the pinkies.by Dec/Jan ,should start feeding weekly again,our Baby Fox snake ,did that,the first few months after it was caught,last (late) Aug.06.
If your not familiar with these,remember it from the Kingsnake family,they don't go after other snakes like the Kingsnakes do,but they've been known to eat younger snakes,from time to time.
