There was one at the river near my house that was pretty small, who thought he was a tough guy. He chased my hand, pincers flailing around. I was probably 9 or 10 when it happened. He got tossed into the water by my mom, who didn't want me to be pinched by a "stupid water bug". Haha.

I have had many little ones pinch and hang on, it's funny he'll be hanging to my finger and won't let go. But, have you ever found one the size your fist pinch you? OUCH. Love those guys.

found bigger, but was never pinched

one must have been about 8-9 inches when it fled in the winnipeg floodway
one I seen that fled yesterday was probably a half foot

I've only been pinched once really hard, never again I let myself get pinched

I had some for a while. They didn't get close to that size! But then again the male killed and ate the female and I got pissed and got rid of him! I had a bunch of babies from before the female was killed and the biggest one started eating all of his siblings! I got rid of all of them!

I had one for several years when I was younger that grew to be pretty big maybe 4-5 inches, lived with a pike fish. Both caught as inchlings. Had to get rid of them when my dad decided he didn't want an aquarium anymore

Me too. They taste great.

It seems like there is two different kinds around here. One that looks like that one and lives in rocky bottom clear cold streams. Another that gets huge, is very red, and lives in warm muddy lakes, and digs burrows in the muddy bank.

Same here in norcal, too. I was only familiar with the big red, muddy lake, variety until a few years ago.

Meet Capricorn. Capricorn is names for the astrological sign the baby will (most likely) be. (if not, I'll have to change it!) Capricorn is a female Candy Cane corn snake... a nice one at that! When my son/daughter is old enough for snake interaction, this will be "their" snake. By that time, Capricorn will be a big meaty girl and being a corn, she will be very sturdy and tolerant of a child.

Me either! But candy cane takes more work to get. It's a selectively/line bred trait and the nicest candy canes like this one are actually very hard to come by because you can't reliably produce them. Same with the Abbott line okeetee's, my other favorite corn! I love selectively bred looks and have a lot of appreciation for them because of the time that goes into getting really nice ones!

"ribbit" if it's a boy. Just wait until you get a mature male in the house. He'll drive you insane at night when you're trying to sleep.

I don't know how to sex them. I think females have a different shaped neck than males, but they're babies, so I don't know if it's not showing.

Frogger makes little peep sounds occasionally.

We also have at least a thousand of then next to my bedroom window, so I'm kind of used to it.

ConcinusMan
07-26-2011, 06:50 PM
Look at the chin underneath. Females are usually very white. Males will be darker and when they are fully mature, the skin on the chin will look wrinkly and greenish or grayish. That would be the skin they blow up to "ribbit". Females don't call and don't have any means to call so their chins are white and the skin isn't loose.

If they are tiny and not yet mature, it will be hard to tell.

A female can make a little "chirp" or squeek sound if you grab them and they become alarmed but it's not the same as a male call.

kibakiba
07-26-2011, 06:52 PM
All 3 of them have whitish chins. I don't think there's anything in there that could peep, other than the frogs.

ConcinusMan
07-26-2011, 06:54 PM

We were playing outside with our youngest daughter and this kitten was trying to go behind our shed and I scared him him off 2x and finally I looked behind the shed to seee what he was tryiing to play with and sure enough it was Weasley . My hubby went from one side and scared him my way and I caught him. He was trying to get away and we noticed that he was covered in fleas. So we got a cat carrier and put him in it outside while Rod( hubby) went to get shampoo stuff. We did the shampoo and stuff outside and then after drying we brought him back. We were sooo happy to find him and clean him and have him back. I think he missed us too. He seemed to be happy coming back. His brothers missed him to. Freaking out all over the house for 3 days meow for him. Crazy stuff. Were sooo happy.

Awesome Shannon! Nice to see Sludge again as well as the rest of the crew. The kingsnake pics made me chuckle. My little girl has been a striking machine today. Not sure what's up with her. I'm guessing it's all been a feeding response as she was doing dry strikes at cage furnishings as I moved them. She ate on Sunday, so it's possible she's hungry again, but geez. Silly girl. Not to change the subject but here in Rhode Island we have an alligator that is loose in a local river. The authorities appear to care less about it and are going to leave it there and let it die over the winter. We run an animal rescue (we rescue any kind of animal!) and are trying to find a way to save him. It may come down to us trying to catch him. Does anyone on the forum have any idea how to go about doing this? We've seen it done on tv (Swamp people etc.) but they know what they are doing and we don't! Any suggestions? We have contacted the media so we'll see where this goes!

Is this something that you have to do at night? How do you keep them from diving and disappearing below the surface? We have a friend that owns a reptile store and he has alligators that he uses for shows etc. Of course we've been trying to reach him and can't. ***Woops! This was in reply to Snakehill's gator comments.. Totally missed the last page of the thread...***

If you were in NC I'd be there in 20 minutes with some duct tape, a flashlight, and a sack. Good luck catching it, I've never dealt with wild gators any bigger than hatchlings. How are you going to find it? Like.. Do you know where it's at already, or do you have to troll up and down the river with some raw chicken and hope for the best?

Three feet long isn't too bad. Probably wouldn't cause more than a dozen or so stitches worth of damage! :p

This is Tank and my oldest daughter Emmyjo. Emmy will be 17 very soon and loves her boy Tank.
Tank continues to grow and shows no signs of aggression toward any of us. In fact he's becoming more social with us and especially me. Many times the kids will come down to the snake room and get me saying that Tank is looking for me. According to them he searches the living room for me. Once I get in the living room he comes over and sits by me. He's one special turtle.
In Oct. he will be 3 years old.
As you see Tank is starting to put on some size. He's at 7.5 lbs now.

Corns are very easy, require next to nothing, and if you get a pair, will pay for themselves 10 fold in short order. $20 is a decent deal, but if they've had it a long time and are still marking it down, you could prolly offer like $10-$15 and still get it. Might as well!

I'm hoping you guys can help with a quick question. I think we're ok, but would love confirmation. My little kingsnake refused food last week. I've had her since April and it's the first time she's refused food for me. Noticed a couple of days later that she was going into shed. Ok, that could explain it. She shed last night and I offered her half of a really large fuzzy this morning. The meal size was ok for her, but she's never had one cut in half. Just as she was finishing I spooked her and out came the mouse. She's never been a shy eater, so I wasn't expecting her to spook so easily. Anyway, no real worries at this point, right? Not a true regurge so we're ok to try again in a couple of days, right? Thanks in advance :)

Caught a nice-looking Neceus americanus or Giant American Millipede today. His name is Ohm (since he looks a bit like a resistor coil..) I've been wanting to keep some sort of invert for awhile now, and these are such cute little low-maintenance animals, I thought I'd keep him. He's been sitting in my hand munching on apple chunks tonight, so I don't think being captured traumatized him too badly.

Don't know for sure if he'll be a permanent resident yet as my mother seems dead-set against it, but I'm hoping I'll get to hang on to him. It'll be a learning experience :) Regardless, pics soon. Very beautiful little guy, red banding on the body and almost maroon legs. (yes, I'm this excited over a millipede...)

Okay, weird! LOL I'll just upload them on here and then use the code to embed them (: Glad some people could see them lol I actually just linked the pictures from the cornsnake forum since I already had them uploaded there... so maybe it has something to do with being able to access that site? Oh well

She is the dorkiest dog lol

and I love my Ziggy boy (: He's just about the most chill snake ever lol.. at seven years old he's active and alert, but totally calm. My 2 year old cousin was sitting right beside me poking her finger at his mouth and I didn't even notice.. He didn't care one bit and I don't think I could ever get him to bite or musk me even if I tried. He's also loves to take trips outside and around the house wrapped around my neck or hiding inside my shirt lol

(he does like to rattle his tail alot though... but he never strikes. He's a terrible actor)

Well worth the wait! On another note I couldn't see them to begin with either. But my iPad hates imageshack! Can't see any pictures from there and if it's a direct link that has to be clicked on to take you to imageshack, click on it and it throws you completely out of the browser. I was assuming I couldn't see them because it was on imageshack.

Very exciting day here, this morning I saw a wee head peeking out & as a few minutes ago we have a few already out of the eggs with hopefully a bunch more to come. This is before their first shed even & they'll be even brighter afterwards:
"Blaze phase" Goins Kingsnakes (they have many other names, I prefer to stick with the old "Goini" tag)
