I find that tank size plays a role in the number of babies they produce. I would suggest at least a 20 gallon if you need a constant supply.

Tank had a blonde(no offense meant) moment yesterday.

Tank had gone into the front bedroom for a nap. Later in the evening he came walking out. It was time to hydrate and probably use the bathroom.
As he made his way into the living room he encountered the vacuum I had left out. In typical Tank fashion he simply knocked it over and out of his way. It was then I think he lost track of where he was heading. He now seemed focused on the front sliding door. As he crawled past my laptop I yelled his name twice. He stopped and looked over at me. It was then he got back on track to his water. He really did have a "oh yeah" look on his face when I yelled at him.
He's such a funny turtle.

Something a little different for you guys. I love these awesome little boas: Eryx conicus (or I guess "Gongylophis conicus" now..) aka Rough Scaled Sand Boas. I raised 1.2 from we babies over the last 5 years and this is the first time breeding them for me. The first female dropped these two and one slug that I found (may have been more that she got to first who knows). They were born on Canada day and just shed so I thought I would share a quick pic or two:

Just thought I'd share some of my other pets:

Riley Roo, my best 4-legged buddy! She was a rescue from Montana. She's 5 years old now and we've had her since 9 weeks. We call her a lab/shepherd mix, but who really knows?

Thanks! He's a big fat fella. I never expected he would make it to this age (or size). He was kept in horrible conditions before I got him, and he had some very serious resperitory problems. I brought him back from the edge more than once when he first came to me. He lives the high life now, lucky dude :p

This may be the last update for our little Starling Sedonius.
Took the little fellow outside for some sun and this is what he did. Soaking it up.
1 minute later he stood up and flew off over the house. Haven't seen or heard from him since.
Hope he will be OK.

Is that normal Steve? Never seen a bird do that before. Very cool either way!

Panzer crawled underneath the bed earlier today. Been asleep for a little over 8hrs now. I'm gonna leave her alone tonight and let her enjoy the rest. I thought about putting down a towel... maybe next time, I don't want to disturb her :)

It's just bird thermoregulation:D Many birds do it. Robins are noted for sunbathing.

Panzer is looking good. You'll have to get her a blanket. I think sleeping outside of water is good for them. No being disturbed to take a breath. Of course I might be wrong. That might be an automatic thing for them. I know Tank sure sleeps a long time when he's out of the water. The longest I let him go is 48 hours. He needs to hydrate and use the bathroom by that time.

Tank goes through a few blankets a year. When getting settled in he locks those front claws in and tares the blanket. They are a very strong animal. If panzer locks into a corner with carpeting you'll pull the carpet loose from the floor getting her out. I think digging in like that makes them feel more secure.
I don't use towels anymore. Too easy for Tank to rip up.:D

mikem
07-21-2012, 10:24 PM
I don't have carpet, so no worries there! She's still so small compared to Tank. I'll be able to stick to towels for a while before moving up to blankets :) I've seen her dig into the grass when I take her outside for some fresh air.

They are sharp but don't seem to do any damage. He's ripped my arm a few times. He's a strong boy and hard to control when he wants to go somewhere or do something.

I had my poor sighted water dragon out last night. Noticed that he tries to eat shadows. Felt really mean laughing at him, but it was pretty funny. He is completely lame (as in injured) but he is still a great guy.

What happened with his eyes, Eight?

After a 25hr nap, I decided to wake Panzer. I gently lifted her from the floor and sat her on the bed... she didn't even open her eyes! I rubbed on her neck and feet for a few minutes and she finally woke and was ready to return to the water. I fed her and went out to the grocery store for about thirty minutes. When I got home, she was back out and under the bed, haha! I gave her a towel this time. Silly turtle.

Panzer seems great. Apparently Snapping Turtles are one of the species we can keep outdoors in the uk. Do you guys provide huge ponds or something for yours?

As for my Water Dragon, he was a rescue case. His growth seems stunted (he is male and only two foot long, presumed around 4 yrs old now) and he was being kept in a 3x1x1 wooden viv when I saw him. His eyes are cloudy (i'm taking a guess but probably being too close to light sources, both uv and heat, for extended periods of time). The heat lamp wasn't even guarded. I don't guard mine but it is much much higher than in his previous home. His Left wrist also looks like it hasn't formed properly, or that it was broken in the past. He wouldn't eat when I brought him home and would spend most of his time with his eyes shut.
He is now a mean, green, eating machine. He has to be hand fed but he is getting better, the food has to be very very close and moving for him to try Hunting it himself. He also chased my cat a couple of times and seems pretty happy all round now. This guy deserves my time and attention. I'll post a few pictures up later. He really is a special guy.

Well you must be doing something right, he seems to be a happy guy. Was watching your youtube videos of him earlier to show a few work friends. He just seems like such a cool addition to a family. It still amazes me when you tickle/stroke his neck. Is Tank actually aware that he is a turtle?

Introducing Rex, My not so normal Chinese Water Dragon.

I've had him just over a year now (I didn't name him, too stereotypical for me).

Well here he is, you can see a little of his left eye here:

http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss11/SamHack/Forum Photos/_MG_4401.jpg

He's my special guy, and takes a little more care than most of my animals. He doesn't look his handsome self right now due to him being in the middle of shedding. When I got him he was in a 36x18x18 wooden vivarium, with a heat lamp pretty much balanced on his head. He is just over two foot long himself (don't think the previous owner quite knew how much they grew or how quickly. In fact I'm pretty sure he knew absolutely nothing about them. He probably only put a little water in with him as he's called a water dragon).

Here is his right eye, and his right lower jaw. It doesn't seem to bother him (and its a little messy as he just ate). His eye is the bigger issue. Both his eyes are like this, and it does affect his feeding although he id getting more used to it. Tonight while he was chilling out on the arm of my sofa, he quickly turned and managed to eat a small moth that landed next to him. This is pretty much the only time he has been able to feed himself without being made aware of the food first. Normally I hand feed him with tongs which are rubber tipped.

http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss11/SamHack/Forum Photos/_MG_4408.jpg

And last but not least here is his left wrist. Its pretty much always at this funny angle. Again it doesn't bother him and he gets around just fine. I'm not sure what caused it, whether it was a fall or from living in very cramped quarters when he was growing.

http://i557.photobucket.com/albums/ss11/SamHack/Forum Photos/_MG_4406.jpg

He really is my special little guy. He lets me know when he's hungry, and will quite happily bask on my sofa under a heat lamp. He may be disfigured but he really is still awesome and I could never give him up, no matter how much more work he is.

16 years?!?!? How long do goldfish live?!

Let's put it this way. When I was in the first grade a friend of mine got several feeder goldfish. When we got to be over 21 and getting into bars, one of those fish was still living, and was around 12 inches long.

My great aunt had a small Koi in a heated outdoor fountain/pond. She had that thing for decades. As far back as I can remember.

I believe up to 40 years or more is possible for goldfish to live, from what I've heard.

My Rosy boa, Esme, just gave birth to six healthy little babies!

They are quite sexually dimorphic in size. My male is full grown and approx 19" and the female is about 3 feet. The Coastal locales get bigger, females up to 4 feet, the desert and mountain locales are the smallest.

They all pooped today, so while I cleaned their cages I went ahead and weighed them, snapped a few pics and sort of checked them for spurs. Since I was trying to stress them the least amount, not real sure about anything I may or might not have seen. Takes me awhile every time I use my husband's camera to get the hang of it. So the pictures slowly get better. These are all surprisingly big babies, they are all approx. 10 to 12 inches long.

No new pictures right now, just wanted to update Panzer's weight. She's gone from 426g on April 3 (when I received her) to 900g as of yesterday! Doubled her weight in 4 months! The person I purchased her from said that they've had her since she was a hatchling and been feeding her pellets, minnows, crickets and worms. Oh, she was supposedly 2.5yrs old when I got her.

With my frogs (they're wild caught from around my area) I just use potting soil, the kind without chemicals. I also have 2 plugs of grass from my yard... Until recently, I had sticks in there... But they didn't seem comfortable with them. I have seeds that are germinating that I plan on putting in with them after they aren't so breakable... I had 100 angelica sprouts and they crushed them all! Haha. Try frog forum, they have enclosure ideas.

I've been trying there but I find that I'm lucky if I ever get a response. I think I made the mistake of deciding on a species that needs a lot of water. I'm trying to incorporate a shoreline into a viv and that means water filtration. It's actually making steam appear from my ears.

Ouch, I don't blame you. Not many people there owned PCFs, I think 2 people responded to my old thread. Urrrgh. Haha.
Could you just keep it as a very simple enclosure for a week or two until you can get a little more info and plan out all of the things you need.

I'm actually doing it the other way around, and I'm putting together a planted vivarium with both land and aquatic plants. After I've set it up and left it to settle I'll introduce the occupants. I'm thinking I'll use a bio active substrate then it can all be left alone mostly

What are spurs?!?!

Charis
08-07-2012, 10:38 PM
Some snake species have little spurs by the vent, often called vestigial legs. In Rosy boas, and all others I've heard of, males have them and females almost never do. It's a fairly accurate way to sex them noninvasively. Actually I checked on them today to fill water bowls and see if they had shed. Held #4 for a few minutes and I'm pretty sure it has spurs. Little hard to tell on babies! But when I more seriously look for them on everyone, I'll use my 40x jewelers loup to look.

Tell us about Spaz. Please.

Yeah, please do. I find them to be rather unsuited for most captive situations. They need a lot of room and rather high UV/ heat and low humidity. I mean strictly hot dry desert or they just don't make it. They also need to hunt a variety of insects all day, every day, to meet their high energy needs. Even when all that is done, then they just constantly bump the glass or root their noses raw trying to escape anything but huge enclosures. Does she lay there a lot with her eyes closed like that? That's the first sign of trouble. She should be alert and constantly on the move. Just saying, they're not easy and if she's listless...

Been down that road and they usually die slowly.

Tell us about Spaz. Please.

She is a Plateau Striped Whiptail. My cat brought her home when I lived in Westminster. She was slightly injured from it, but has recovered nicely. Nothing major....some teeth marks on her tail.
Her species is all female and they are born with the ability to lay eggs. They live in wooded areas.

She has adapted really well to captivity. She eats crickets and flies and will readily take them from my fingers. Not much for being held, but she will let you touch her. Spaz is a really good digger lol.

When the light is off she will hide under her rock, but is usually active most of the day.

I will probably release her in the coming weeks. Once I get back from my vacation.

There, you see. There's some frogs that can never be snake food. You done went and named them!:p

kibakiba
08-15-2012, 11:19 AM
They've always been named. I've had BigLegs and McCroak for over a year now. I had Frogger but he stopped eating and died in the water dish. I also had Shadow, but feeding 3 frogs was too expensive.. So Shadow became Snake food. He's currently in the freezer. It was more humane than letting him go around here, there is no moisture at all. BigLegs and McCroak were going to be the ones I bred. I don't think I'll be able to do it... McCroak rarely croaks now. He croaked all through the past 2 winters and a little bit into spring and then stopped completely. I haven't heard a peep out of him. I want to get a divider and give them a 3/4 planted, 1/4 water enclosure. They don't seem to enjoy when I give them a large water dish for soaking. They always hang out in the plants.

ConcinusMan
08-15-2012, 12:05 PM
It was more humane than letting him go around here, there is no moisture at all.

That doesn't seem to matter one bit with this species. I've found them up in trees, miles from water, in the driest part of the summer, in 100 degree heat. Didn't seem to bother them at all. I've released them in my yard, miles from water and I could still hear them croak from time to time, several years later. I still hear them croak (cool cloudy mornings or periods of high humidity after a rain shower) now and then in the backyard in Chehalis, and it's bone dry now and far from water.

They don't seem to enjoy when I give them a large water dish for soaking. They always hang out in the plants.

That's normal. They're terrestrial (land dwelling) frogs. Generally speaking, they only use standing water to breed. Other than that, they don't need much moisture.

McCroak rarely croaks now. He croaked all through the past 2 winters and a little bit into spring and then stopped completely.

Also normal for this time of year. Croaking for the most part, is for attracting mates and announcing their presence to rival males. Late winter into spring is the season for that.

Tank is heading into a difficult month or so. I've seen this for the past 2 years (since he matured sexually) Spring and Fall he goes through a very restless stage. I've named this time for him "The call of the wild" He goes to the front sliding door and wants out. I feel bad that he won't be able to breed but it's best for him. We all tolerate his wandering and lost looks.
He is the most amazing turtle I've ever worked with. The last 4 mornings he's gotten out of bed when I came into the living room. We spent sometime outside the other day and Tank never left the property choosing to stay close to me. Tank just tipped the scale at 16 lbs.

I probably can (even though the new building rules don't allow it) but it wouldn't be the same. Growing up we had a female chihuahua who was literally part of the family everybody loved her, she had the loudest bark but no bite lol and unfortunately she died in 2007 of old age (she was 17). My older brother got a puppy (a pitbull) the following year in 2008 but it wasn't the same. To me it was like a family member died and then a new person came as a replacement. I don't know I guess it was too soon.

But on the bright side I'm now addicted to garter snakes and now have 20 :D

California King Snakes. Lampropeltis getula californiae. Even in the wild, in coastal San Diego County, CA, I've found newly hatched litters under boards, with striped and banded babies, and one time, several albinos together, along with their empty egg shells. All the ones you see there are naturally occurring morphs.

But really, it's a caterpillar. Swallowtail butterfly larva.

I agree. I've only found bright green ones though. They live in tree tops as larvae. By the this time of year, they are ready to pupate and sometimes can be found on the ground. Then, they crawl up and find a suitable sheltered place to hang as a pupa.

I have pics I posted somewhere of a pupa I had, but I can't find it at the moment. The pupa looks like this:

http://www.butterflyfunfacts.com/images/tstpupa6.jpg

I'd say your location makes it most likely that your caterpillar is that of a western tiger swallowtail, like the one in this video I shot a while back:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBI9x_xwA4Y&list=UUCtGJ_qv-_Klff1aI8C5kLQ&index=12&feature=plcp

The "eyes" aren't really eyes. They're just markings. Presumably there to startle or surprise a would be predator.

Here's something I'd like to share, a personal first: baby Russian Tortoises!

I caught the biggest female digging what I thought was a nest hole to lay some eggs, but when she was done she didn't fill the hole back in like she normally does. Upon closer inspection I was absolutely shocked to see a fresh baby sitting up in the dirt at the edge of the hole under the cover of their hide. A careful sweep of the hole with my hand to see if I could find more of the eggs (they have usually laid 2-3 at a time) and I saw movement beneath. One more baby poked it's feet and head out of the dirt.

I had decided this spring after several years of nice looking but infertile eggs, "screw it... I'll leave them in the dirt and see" since I've tried pretty much everything else with no success. What I found fascinating was how the mother took the time to dig out the dirt to help the babies come out, or at least appeared to be doing so. The dirt was pretty dry as well which was really surprising.

A quick shot taken this morning of them. The first one I had just rinsed off and the second one was exactly as I found it, seconds out of the dirt.

A friend of mine who I work with caught a very young horned lizard. To be species specific....which I like to be....(she) is a Short Horned Lizard. They are all over his parents property near Alamosa, CO. He is not able to keep her, so I got a new friend.

Here is a picture of the little lizard. She is so tiny, but eating well. My friend gave the horny toad some ants before I picked it up. Gotta collect some more tomorrow after work.

Not named yet, but open to suggestions :)

I LOVE these, but the care is way to intense for me. You need to keep them hot, like 110 degrees hot and I just can't afford that kind of electric bill. I saw these at the Myrtle Beach ReptiCon this month. A MUST (or they will die) is the Repashy Formic-Cal Plus Ant Eater Supplement Repashy Formic-Cal Plus Ant Eater Supplement 5.3oz (http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/reptile-supplies/canned-food-and-diets/lizard-monitor-and-gecko-dry-and-canned-foods/-/repashy-formiccal-plus-ant-eater-supplement-53oz/) This way you can also feed them roaches, crickets and other insects.

I have never heard of that product before. I have to collect some harvester ants for her after work today. Horny toads need the folic acid in the ants or they don't survive. I will have to do some research to see if that suppliment is safe for horned lizards. I find that a lot of sites really don't know as much about reptiles as they would like to think they do.

The place I got my tadpoles from didn't know anything about garters. They suggested goldfish and were confused when I told them goldfish weren't safe for garters.

Cute little lizard... Have also heard that they are insanely hard to keep alive... Majority of people who try to keep them end up killing them. Unintentionally

... Try to create a living vivirium, ant colony and plants etc... that would be my best bet... Heat mat and 150w bulb ... lots of heat.

Good luck.

It's a new product designed just for the horned lizard. I talked to a guy at Myrtle Beach about this. Since this product has been tested and does what it's suppose to do he started raising the horned lizards since this would make it possible for them to survive in captivity where ants might be hard to come by.

Mandi0284
08-31-2012, 08:50 PM
It helps their digestion. Without it they get intestinal blockages and they dont survive that.

I know of some sites that you can buy harvester ants, but my apts might freak out if they get shipments of live ants. I may have to order some of that suppliment and see if it works.

Stop by some cattle farmers n get them to put castration band on his little fur bits. It works on cats, bulls, dogs etc. If you lived near here I'd do it for you. Done it lots on farms to the mouser cats to control population.

Chihuahuas... Don't blame the breed, if you watch ceaser Milian you know this.

jitami
09-09-2012, 09:23 AM
Marnie, I'd start by keeping the little stinker leashed to you at all times. Obviously on a Chihuahua this can be a thin little leash that's hardly noticeable. Tie it to your belt loop and he follows as you move about your day. He's never out of reach and always right under your control so he has no opportunity to act poorly. Do you have a crate for him? Any time you can't have him leashed to you or anytime you have guests over I'd put him in the crate. Eventually you'll be able to try him with guests out of the crate, still leashed, after he's learned appropriate ways to deal with the guests. If he's excited and really wanting to see them, but gets too nippy out of excitement it should be fairly easy to train him to sit for attention. Just the act of him having to think 'Oh, I need to sit if I want them to pet me!' will slow him down a bit and take his mind off of snapping for a few seconds anyway.... you'll be able to stretch the time gradually. If he's nipping because he really doesn't want anything to do with them he may be very happy to just go to his crate or a bed and stay there while you have visitors.

Call your local animal shelter and explain what's going on and see if they have free training classes... ours does for pit bulls and I'd be surprised if the didn't offer some sort of help for a Chi. Our shelters here are over run with pitbulls & chihuahuas, so helping to keep them safely in a home should be a valuable thing to them?

This is a decent program for dogs who are starting to get out of control - Nothing in Life is Free (http://k9deb.com/nilif.htm) - even though all of the dogs I have right now are pretty easy going and mellow I still use parts of this program on a day to day basis to shape behavior I don't want into something acceptable. For example, Gizmo, one of 2 of our basset hounds, came to us really really mouthy. He wasn't biting to be nasty he just wanted attention and boy did biting at our hands work to get it. They don't care so much if it's negative or positive attention they just want to interact with you. I had everyone in our house completely ignore any biting or mouthiness. No need to tell them no or punish them, simply ignoring it will usually do the trick because it's not getting them what they want. Gizmo on his own started nosing my hand with a closed mouth while I was waiting for him to sit calmly. I decided I would take the nosing and rewarded him big time with lots of praise and attention. Really carry on a bit so they know what they did was right. It took a few times, but even now almost 4 years later that's how Gizmo lets us know he wants petted. We don't have to really think about any of it anymore. He's never mouthy now at all and usually gets petted before he ever has to nose anyone, but when he needs to communicate that message to us he now has an acceptable way to do it. Does that make sense? It really wasn't difficult at all, it just took some time of all of us being consistent for it to really sink in that nosing was the way to get what he wanted (petted) and not mouthing which got him nothing at all.

Fwiw, I am not a trainer by any means and these are just suggestions. I have lived with multiple great danes over the last 12 years or so and have always been a 'dog person'. The danes are so large they just have to behave, period, so while I haven't done extensive formal training they all behave pretty well because I don't tolerate anything else. Again, you don't have to be mean or loud, just consistent... like raising little kids :)

I have made some progress with him...and I always keep him in his bed now when company comes over. I will see what happens after neutering...the thing about obedience classes is that I don't know how he would do with other dogs...he doesn't like them either. I really need a private trainer...but I can't afford it. If they had a class specifically for Chihuahuas, that would be good.

And if you have seen the Chihuahuas From Hell video...you will see that many of them are exactly like this. Watch it if you can...it's pretty hysterical.

Maybe getting him socialized with other dogs would help. Put up flyers in pet stores, malls, walmart etc, "Socialize my dog parties" Explain that he needs some doggy friends (and maybe some manners) get him a muzzle to make it safe for all parties involved.

Maybe talk to a shelter n see if they can help socialize him, like if any of their dogs there are really well behaved n good examples for him to learn from.

Getting him socialized will help his attitude. A lot.

I have to share with you my time with Tank last night.
I've learned many of Tank's tells which let me know how he's feeling and hopefully what he's thinking. Last night after he had dinner I noticed he was making small scratching motions with his front paws. This means he is tired and ready to get some sleep.
The next thing he will do is come partially out of his enclosure but not go to bed in his blanket. He did this 4 times. On the 5th time I lifted his blacket up and patted the area he sleeps in, encouraging his to get some sleep.
This time he cocked his head and looked down at the area I was patting and then the lifted blanket.
He then looked me in the eyes and backed into his water.
The punk knew what I wanted but refused to give in.
A few minutes later he couldn't take it anymore and came out to bed.
He reminds me of a little kid doing everything they can think of not to go to bed.
The more I work with Tank the more he impresses me with his intelligence and his docile behavior.
I feel fortunate to have this opportunity and enjoy every second I have with him.

We are adopting a 15ish yo Eastern Box turtle from my SIL. They've been trying to give Mildred to me for over a year! My son wants her and swears he'll take over her primary care. He's much more involved with Eli, so I hope this goes well. Gonna have to make a lid for her tub so the cat can't pester her. I'll post pics when she arrives...

Nice! I've really been thinking about an Eastern Boxie, maybe once we get moved into our own house and I can do up a nice outdoor enclosure ...

Yeah, I've been online looking for ideas. I've seen everything from from hinged lids that open (to protect the little buggers from predators) to whole back yards, divied up for each species!

The dogs think they own the back yard, the might have to start sharing!

Just saw that owl recently but it was on youtube and called "owl thinks it's a cat" or something like that. That owl must have been hand raised. The behavior seen there is a feeding response but I don't mean like an adult would respond. That's how baby owls beg to be fed. (the video on youtube)

Hey do you house your corns together?

yes I house about 2 or 3 corns together when adult. When smaller like these I have 5.
All females (or males in a different tank).

Here in holland a lot keep them seperate in boxes. But I keep them in tanks like the garters (which is also done a lot :) )

Have you ever had a problem with housing them together?

I keep babies together (according to sex) but house them individually when they become sub-adults.

Today i went with a buddy to the Canadian Reptile Breeders Expo in Mississauga Ontario and I found an awesome steal!
I saw them at a couple other booths and they were like $240-$260, well i found my Brazilian Rainbow Boa Female and her price tag was $140!
I had to get her it wasn't really an option with that price. She's calmer (not when the guy probed her) then i initially figured she would be since working at the pet store i used too the rainbow boas usually were a little more... agitated i guess you could say.
This is my first boa and i only plan on getting one other kind of boa (suri http://www.cornsnakes.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

I'm a little stumped on a name, Medusa comes to mind but i think theres another name out there that fits better.

here's some pix

What kind of problems? I never had any problems with my corns. I have 2 adult female tanks. One with 2 and one with 3 females. And I have the 5 females from last year toghether. I heard from a friend that he has 2 females and one male in one tank, but that gives problems. The male only thinks about new babies ...... the females are sick and tired off the male and get into stress. But when the male is out there is no problem. When I feed them I take them out and put each one in a feedingcontainer. Feed them .. leave them there for about 30 min. Put them back in the tank with fresh whater. I have had no problems. You don't want to put 5 adult corns in a tank from 100 cm. I have 2 in a 100 cm tank, 3 in a 120cm tank, 5 from last year also in a 100 cm tank. (100 cm is about 40 inch or 3.3 feet)

What kind of problems?

I only ask because I posted on a cornsnake forum that I housed a few babies together by size and sex, and people were posting that that is animal cruelty because corns aren't social animals and need to be housed individually. They said that "cohabbing" is an accident waiting to happen and that when I see the corns all huddled together that they were competing for resources like the best hide or warm spot and warned me of potential cannibalism.

I spent some time rearranging two of my fish tanks today. I added grapevine (boiled for hours!) to my 3 gallon, and planted some lutea. I left the stargrass to float, but once the lutea get taller, I'll toss it. I just don't like it as much as I thought!
http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii46/tress29/3gal008.jpg

I planted a larger anubis in my 5.5 gallon tank and rearranged the rest. My puffer died last week and I decided to replace him with a dwarf gourami. He's hiding in there! They are "recommended" for larger tanks, so I'll keep an eye on him for stressful behaviors!

That would be from cornsnakes.com and I do not believe in co-habbing corn snakes what's so ever. Corn snakes aren't social animals like garters are. They can and will eat each other purposely or accidentally. The huddling together isn't the same as what garters do. It is competing for best spot and temperature. This information isn't from newbies its from very knowledgeable corn keepers, breeders and herpologist's. It'd be like asking one of the reputable and knowledgeable garter breeder/keepers for garter info.

Let's not get into this on thamnophis.com :).
Here in holland there is also much discussion in keeping corns in tanks (for reptiles with doors in the front) or in boxcontainers.
There is not much discussion about housing corns together ...... You keep them in a tank with more then one, or you keep them in a boxcontainer one by one ..... but the ones that keep them in boxcontainers are 90% breeders.

But let's end this here ... i'll register on cornsnakes and have a look :D
