Just when they are born by popping for some species during the next one or two month. Probing works after one year.
For both you need expert advice and some practise.

Yes or you could cause real damage to the snake!!!!!

Reed, you can sex them at every point of there life.
three ways
popping
probing
and a visual of the vent.
THe first one mebtioned, popping, can only be done in the first month of there life. This is because the muscle surrounding the reproductives.
in the male you would push on the begining up towards the vent.
if it is a male the hemipenes will show. if not it is a female. i dont suggest you try this method it is very dangerous to your snake.
The second is probbing. This is very stressful to yuor snake(well i imagine getting a rod stuck up you privates aint to pleasant.) This were you get a probe and very gently slide it up the vent. if it goes far it is a male.
if it goes short it is a female.
the last i mentioned is where you post a pic on thamnophis and watch us bicker on what sex it is:rolleyes: To be honest we always get it right:D

Reed, trust the people here and don't put undue stress on your snake. Post a pic or 2 of the vent and a couple inches either way and you will have your answer. It's better this way all around.

If I'd have to guess I'd say female, but no where near 100% on that one. Looks like the tail slims down pretty well after the vent. Any other takers?

I agree with Roy, but it is really small still so it's pretty hard to tell.

I would say male.Even at that age the females tend to get a thicker appearance to them.
