Its just there natural sizes, like mine I have T. s. Sirtalis(Eastern Garter)
and they can get up to about 3ft or more...it really depends on the snake
how good of health, how well it eats, the area its in, and all that stuff..:)
I'm not to sure how big Pickeringii get but some one here does!!!!! You'll find anything and everything you need to know about Garters here....:D

some species are bigger than others....giant garters average around 48 for full size females. easterns can get big also...a friend of mine in Idaho caught a 4 ft valley garter (t s fitchi)...I also have a 42 inch melanistic eastern....

It's really more dependent on genetics and environment. A well fed, healthy snake will have more energy to put towards growth, but will still be limited by it's genetics. As an example, eastern garters (T.s.sirtalis) can get well over 3ft., especially ones coming out of Fla. Where as I know Felzer had a group of individuals from VA that were topping out at less then 2ft. Also sex comes into question, on average male garters tend to be a smaller then females. Your T.s.pickeringi should top out at around 2ft. for a male and 3ft. for a female, but again...that's not definite. Hope this helps.

The pictured snake lokks bigger than it is, because she´s angry and has pumped up herself to fend those predator called camera.
Weight is more expressive than length. Ribbon snakes get more than 3ft too but reaching only about 150-200 gramm. Easterns can get more than 300 gramm with the same length.
Allways talking about females because males will stay smaller and skinner.
