Hi! This site was recommended to me. I am in northwest New Jersey. I found a baby albino garter in July. I kept him because I figured he would not last long and I’ve never seen one befor. Today while cutting the grass I found another albino baby! Anyone know how rare this is in the wild? Also I have never owned a garter so any tips would be appreciated. I am currently alternating fish and earth worms....

That is awesome, I found an Albino this year in May as well, such an amazing thing to come across, took me thousands of garters to find my first albino. Hope they do well for you, they are eastern garters and what you are feeding is good, what type of fish though?

I’m really excited about them. I picked up minnows from the pet store.

Minnows are bad in my opinion. They contain Thiaminase and usually carry a heavy parasite load. Guppies, Mollies and Gambusia are much safer.

Try cut up earthworms with cut up pinkies mixed together. Fish are nothing but trouble

I was actually going to say, someone in the neighborhood probably released an albino or two, or they got away. The trait is very uncommon in the wild, so one could happen, but two (at different times) seems unlikely. Who knows though? Maybe you are just super lucky.

Wow! What a find! Any updates on the little guy? I know this thread is a bit old.
