I found this garter in new york city friday. Its eyes were cloudy so i thought the weird color may be because of an upcomming shed. This morning he shed and the weird color is still here. Anyone have any idea whats gong on with this snake?

Where in the city? Doesn't look like one from upstate or Long Island. It is an eastern though

South east queens near jamaica bay. Other garters from the area are within the "normal range of variation" lol. Dark with the creamy stripe or the odd faint checkers

Good lookin' garter, the rusty belly reminds me of eastern ribbonsnakes or butlers garters.

I'm in Nassau. I have never seen one quite like that. I have found hundreds over the years. I did find a very very dark one many many years ago in Bethpage but they built houses on the area awhile back
