Tonight I went and picked up a radix from a fellow keeper that didn't have much interest in keeping Thamnophis. It is like nothing I have ever seen before. What is your opinion on what this thing Is?

It's hard to say with young Radix. I've seen some very light colored ones produced in the past. I can't wait to see how this little gem colors up. Could be xanthic!

Very pretty, looks like a very light normal.

To be honest I would be happy either way. Due to legalities of my state, I am not sure this could make it into the hobby even if it is genetic.

Agreed! I hope all is well with you Joe! I know it's been awhile since we spoke.

Could be hypo. Even though garters are for the most part polymorphic. Male or female? Either way, this is a keeper. Good luck with it. :)

I agree with Joe. Light phase normal. Beautiful, by the way.

Albert, thank you. It is a wild caught animal. As I have seen many radix in Colorado and none of them looked anything like this, I agree there is a good possibility this guy is hypo melanistic. I have not had the chance to sex it yet.

Nice. I can't wait to see what sex it is and how it does for you. Amazing looking reptile.

I've seen Colorado Radix like this one....could be hypo but it could also be just a very light normal...good luck bud

May I ask in what region of Colorado you saw similar animals? I talked with the state about this situation and there is no way for the offspring to be sold or shipped out of state unfortunately. It is pounding ft pinky mice, so I am very optimistic about it thriving in my care.

As someone who lives and catches snakes in Colorado this is not at all what most radix look like. Most radix you catch here look much darker like the typical radix you see in other areas. I have ran into some light ones over the years but none that are this golden looking or light.

If you think its a morph then prove it out. Until then its just a pretty plains garter

If you read back, I will not likely be breeding it. Pretty unusual garter it is.
