I have a friend that has been keeping a wild caught garter for a bit, legally I might add, but he has no interest in garters so he is passing it onto me. I was wondering what is the best way to go about treating this animal, as it not your run of the mill local garter snake? I woukd appreaciate any and all advice on safely treating the new guy.

Wild garters are always problematic, but what are you trying to treat? They are usually known to have high parasitic loads but unless the animal is symptomatic then just observe him for any abnormal behavior or suspicious symptoms.

Thanks Albert, my main concern would be spreading something to the rest of my collection.

Gotcha! Then as always, fall back on your personal quarantine practices and if anything suspicious turns up consider your vet.
