Really lovely animals!
But Underwoodisaurus? Surely that's not a true species?

Wikipedia says it is. :) Underwoodisaurus - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Underwoodisaurus)

My god, you guys (and girl) are quick!
Underwoodisaurus is a real species. Believe it or not, scientists found the ...under wood! Hence the name...
@ stefan: Gecko's and Garters, a great combination!
gotta love these 'frogs'

Always been more of a skink fan, but I can definitely see why so many people love geckos. :) What are they like?

I've kept a few geckos in the past, my favourite was always Ptychozoon kuhli and Gekko gecko.

It depends. Most gecko's are very curious. Some are very silly (like the cilliatus) they climb up the highest branch / stick and them jump down, head first, on a cricket. There favorite sleeping position is head down in the green.
The leopardgecko's react to what you are doing. Alse very curious and always climbing on your hands.
The oedura are very alert and always keeping an eye on me. And since they've got huge eyes, its very fun to watch.
The pictus are the most 'garter like' Always cruising around, but still quite shy. And they produce 2 eggs every 5 days...almost sickening...hahahaha
The underwoodisaurus are brutal and always trying to impress you. They wave their tails, stand high on their legs, very cool to watch!
And all of them have very natural behaviour when I'm observing them (with a headlight on ;) )

Ahhh...the gecko gecko...lovely animals...
Had to handle a few in the shop where I worked...I'm glad they let go quite quickly...I always thought they would hang on for ever...
Kuhli are like garters, lovely animals but not appreciated by 'the public'

When are they active?
Thought about getting a couple of Hemidactylus once before, but they seemed to be the same kind of fridge magnets as Hyla frogs. :D
edit: I see you're not just familiar with Gekko gecko's reputation, you have first hand experience. :D

Do you have P. kuhli now, Sjoerd?
reptileparadise
08-08-2007, 02:29 PM
No, I dont own Kuhli's...Have thought about getting some, but I've set my sights on Australian species (
Diplodactylus, Nephrurus, Oedura, Phyllurus, Saltuarius, Strophurus )
And offcourse, one day...Naultinus...absolutely stunning animals! bit expensive though.... 15000 euro for a pair...
maybe I should enter the lottery...?hmmmm....
Ow, thats right...most species I have are nocturnal...but there are some lovely day-active species like agamura (spidergecko's)

If it was me, I'd go with elegans...or two lottery tickets!

To bad it takes about 7 years for them to mature and then they still lay about one or two eggs a year...

I've kept quite a few Phelsuma too....but never really got "into" them. Pretty though.

Some very nice gekko's. I'm actually more into Varanus species, Varanus macraei is high on that list... But I need some more room than my little studio. Although I must say that the Rhacodactylus species are fascinating geckos.

Very nice geckos....I've always loved them, but got out of keeping insect eating lizards since I became allergic to....well...insects...actually their droppings! Really sucks! All I have now is one leopard gecko yet...he's about 15yrs. old.

At this moment I can only have a look at them at others:(
I just don't have the room. I live in a little appartment ( called studio here ), it's just 1 room as living/bedroom/study and a small kitchen and a small bathroom. So I don't have the room to start with Varanus (unless acanthurus or other small species ). But I've already been looking up a lot and visiting others with Varanus;)

V. acanthurus are really, really fun to look at. Great characters!
I personally love the colors on prasinus but I dont think they will ever come here....
What phelsuma's have you kept James?

I think day geckos are stunningly beautiful! I prefer them to any other kind. Not too keen on the fat tail in a lot of adult geckos.

What phelsuma's have you kept James?
I have kept P. madagascarensis grandis (of course:rolleyes: ), P. cepediana, and P. laticauda. I always wanted, but never got, P. standingii.
reptileparadise

You've had some very nice species James. The reptileworld obviously changes fast, because standingii aren't very hard to find these days...
I must say, Phelsuma's are really fun to look at. Especially when you give them their fruitmixture...they all gather around the bowl, licking it up like little doggies!
Personally, I like the looks of the Phelsuma quadriocellata. But they are so extremely fast...
