New - Thinking about getting 1st Garter

I have had other snakes but never a garter - There is a breeder who has albino checkered's for sale right now and I am really tempted to get one but I can't decide if I want a boy or girl! I really want a garter because they don't need to eat rodents - so maybe a male that will be tiny forever? But I've heard that females are easier to handle.
Oh what to do!!

With checkered garters I think you can't go wrong with a male or female for handling, they are very tame garters and that's probably why they are the most commonly kept pet garter. So it's up to you if you want a smaller or larger snake. Also welcome to the forum. :)
