Hey,
I'm wondering if a Common Garter snake (Thamnophis sirtalis) and a Banded water snake (Nerodia fasciata) could be crossed together so that they could have babies?
I would NEVER do anything that stupid, I'm just wondering :)
Thanks.

Hi Anthon, and welcome to the forum.:) I doubt very much that Thamnophis and Nerodia would ever interbreed. And as you so rightly say, it wouldn't be a very good idea anyway.

Welcome aboard, Anthon.
It is my understanding that it isn't possible.

Okay, thanks :)
But I've heard that a garter snake and a corn snake has been interbred, so are you sure? I mean I think Thamnophis and Nerodia are closer relatives than garters and corns.
I'm just wondering because I know couple of people who keeps a garter and a water together and I think it wouldn't be very nice if they.. you know.
And sorry, I know my english isn't very good :)

I seriously doubt that corns and garters have interbred. May I ask you who told you that?
edit: How's Härski doing, by the way? ;)

I can't find that page anymore :/
But it was there just like "for example"-style, so maybe it hasn't even ever happened.
So, they (Nerodia fasciata & Thamnophis sirtalis) wouldn't ever interbreed, right? great, and thank you :)
And Härski is doing well ;)
Welcome to the forum, Anton.

Welcome to the forum :) .
There is always a chance, but it's probably a small one. I have not heard of hybrids between them. To be certain, you can put only snakes of 1 gender together and you certainly won't have a problem.
