Here in Iowa we have cold weather moving in(finally) Winter hasn't arrived and my wild population is still active. My kids told me they saw a big female out front in one of the shelter areas. After a few days of mid 30's we are suppose to return to low 50's during the day. I'm sure my wild one know how to deal with this crazy weather but I'll do a yard sweep checking for any caught out in the cold. Found a big female in that situation a few years back. I think she was awaiting death in those temps. I took here in and we enjoyed her for 2.5 years more. She was a great snake.

Neat story Steve. I didn't even see any garter snakes in our pond area in the back yard this year, which is a first in years. Usually we have several sightings per summer.

There's a significant cold snap coming your way next week so hopefully all the reptiles make their way underground, it's going to be really cold in some areas. -10F in Edmonton and it was 35 a few days ago, that cold air is coming your way too.

Yeah, winter seems to be setting in, and it does not seem like it will letting up anytime soon. That said, we have been lucky as Edmonton is usually a lot colder then it has been for the last couple months. Hopefully the reptiles are all tucked away safe and warm.
