Hello! My name is Hannah! Yesterday afternoon I was given a baby checkered garter, caught by my dad. I've named it Cleo (easily amended to Theo if it turns out to be a boy)! I don't know much of anything about keeping snakes, but I've wanted one for as long as I can remember.

Welcome.
I'll link you to the care sheet, be sure to ask any questions you might have. To start- No bugs. Guppies, mollies, mosquito fish, earth worms, night crawlers are all good foods.

Thanks for the tips on food and link to a care sheet!
I'll post a picture as soon as possible! Unfortunately, right now she's in a two gallon plastic tank, and its hard to get a clear shot, since the sides are smudged up.
I don't know if you meant ask questions here, but if so- how would i go about setting up a real tank for her? I know to lay down a few layers of paper towels, have a few hiding places, and a water dish, but that's about it. How would I set up a heating lamp? Are stick on thermometers ok? Am i missing anything?

Glad to hear someone likes their worms. Looks like Cleo will be a good name. We can confirm that Cleo is a Cleo if you post a couple under tail photos with the tail hanging down. I'll link you to a thread that will teach/show you how to sex garters.
