Well I've finally been able to expand the garter family. I picked up some Maritimes from Ben (aka:vwsrcool)...don't know the sex, but hoping for a pair. Also this past weekend I got a pair of "blue" garters at the Hamburg show in PA. They were sold as blue T.ordinoides, but think they might be blue T.s.pickeringi. Will have to wait for their first shed so I can do some scale counting. I'm hoping they are T.ordinoides...it'd be cool to have a non-sirtalis garter. So with out futher ado...here they are.:D

One of the maritimes....

the other maritime..love the kind of pinkish hue they have, wonder what they'll grow up to be???

and an over head shot to see the patterns on them....very happy with them, even though they're not the nice green maritimes I've been looking for.

Now the blues...first the female, she's got tons of colour, but is a bit more greenish

and the male, he's got a lot of blue on him, can't wait to see what he'll look like as an adult

Hey Ben,
Yeh, actually there were quite a few garters at the show. The blues that I got were at Don Hamper's table. Every now and then he has some nice ones, one year there were some flames there, but a bit out of my price range. Also saw what I think were some young T.e.elegans as well and some baby T.p.rubrilineatus that were really temping. Figured though between the blues and the garters I got from you, better hold off for a while...LOL. The easterns are doing well, the one is a great eater, but the other one is still kind of off and on for feeding....at least it's eating something. Here's a pic of the one that is eating.

Well today I'm happy to say that ALL my garter babies took scented pinky parts. Very happy....very good step for them to becoming longterm conpanions.:D Also my one pallidulus that wasn't eating, successfully was force fed a bit of trout fillet. Took him a bit to swallow it, but hopefully this will be the turning point for him. Going to feed him again tomorrow.

Well yesterday I'm happy to say that ALL the garters took unscented pinky parts. This is great, they're all doing really well and one is actually in shed right now (still even ate like a pig in shed!), so can't wait to see how he looks afterwards. I'm actually really surprised how easy this was, expeceted it to take much longer....but really happy it didn't.:D

That's true. One of the easterns will sometimes eat fish, but none of the other snakes will, That just seems weird to me.

One of my tetrataenia won't touch fish......she gets all excited and investigates it, but just won't take it, as if her mouth is sewn shut!!

What do you try to feed them? I know if I put live pieces of worms in there they pretty much destroy them before I can put my hand in there. lol

Yeh, my one problem feeder eastern opened up and started eating really well after giving him some small worms. Less then a week later he's taking pinky steaks. I did end up loosing the one maritime that I was trying to force feed. So out of four maritimes and two easterns, I'm left with two of each. But at least the four I've got are well on their way now.:D
