I found a snake in my backyard (DeKay's) and within the week it ate a slug and half of a earthworm I found in my backyard. I live in SC. Anyway, I just read about Red Wiggler worms and looked at a photo of them and it could have been what I already fed him. I went on a digging expedition and dug up about 100 worms which I have in a bin. Most are earthworm looking (redworm looking) and then there are a handful that are lighter in color and much more squiggly than the regular ones. I am wondering if it may be easier to get them from Walmart. I checked with them today and they do carry night crawlers year round.

As long as your getting worms from safe soil they are probably better for your buddy, more fresh. As far as convenience goes Walmart is the way to go.

red wigglers are toxic to garters, so could be to dekays as well. make sure you're feeding garden/leaf worms or small nightcrawler pieces.
