Wow, they really are big babies aren't they?
drache
08-01-2007, 07:27 PM
yeah
I think they're bigger than the plains babies I got from Scott
and when I look at them I can't see the red at all on the body - just the face
they look very blue
the photos look different

red spots and wanderings have large babies, consequently, they have small litters. I have noticed that with several western species. congrats!! cute babies!!! my red spots didn't breed :( will have 3 pairs (2 high red) hibernating and hopefully breeding next year ;)

it's my first time and I'm just floored
I took them from their momma and I'm happy to say, they're not as shy as she is (she's w/c)
I can't stop talking about it either

Congrats on the concinnus babies!:D I take it these are from the female that was with the male the went AWOL. They're very pretty, unfortunately or fortunately, depending how you look at it, they'll loose a lot of that blue as they get older. I know my little one Petra had a ton of blue on her belly and sides, but now that she's getting more mature, a lot of it has faded to black.

I'm hoping some of them will inherit the bright turquoise belly their papa had
he was fully grown and as big as the female
mom has a very dark blue, almost black belly
I wanted to see whether they'd take food today, but the minnows at the store were large and looked terrible - that sort of milky/fuzzy look - yuck
had anyone here started babies on f/t minnows or trout pieces?
or do they need their food to be moving?

From what I've heard from other breeders, concinnus are great eaters. I'd try putting a little plate of minced trout with vitamins in with them and see if they go for it.

You can also try a little pinkie and pinkie parts very fast. They are known to take them very easily. Like Roy says, they are one the easiest eaters...

James is babysitting my concinnus babies for me till Saturday and feeding them trout pieces and earthworms. "Greedy pigs" is what he calls them!

Wow, they're really cute, Mikhaila and Rhea :) Congrats with those lovely babies !!
I also have to agree with Roy, I think their quite similar to infernalis, that means they'll eat anything. Our infernalis babies are now 2 weeks old and they eat like pigs :D
beautiful snakes
cassifieds section soon?? lol

I tried giving them some food today (trout & pinkie pieces)
they weren't much interested
but then they were just born yesterday
some of them will turn up in the classified section
I am planning to keep a couple
I am hoping to trade as well

here's an update
the babies are doing great and four of them (at last) took food today
I served f/t trout and pinkie pieces
of the four that ate three were not a bit interested in the trout and sought out the pinkie pieces, two of them working down pieces that I wished I'd cut smaller
I'll just have to work a bit more with the others
it looks like some of them have shed and some haven't, but I haven't stumbled upon any shed
it seems that the ones that haven't eaten are the more skittish ones
I suspect that at least two of those want live food because their interest level went up considerably when they saw the food in another snake's mouth (this was during an earlier try when I'd attempted to feed them is small groups)

I am happy that they are starting to feed for you, its great!! Hopefully the others will figure it out soon.

Good to hear that at least some of them are starting to feed. I actually seperated my non-feeders from the rest, think it helped so they had a chance to try some food before another one gobbled it up.

I've been feeding them one at a time, ever since the bad food fight during the first attempt
the ones that ate are in a different enclosure now
I know what they eat and they're now in the "easy" category
who knows - some of the other four may end up there as well
after another try with worms and pinkie pieces, I'll try live minnows
their mom is in shed right now and I'm hoping she'll be sufficiently hungry to perhaps try a rodent when she's done
I should see whether the ones that opted for rodent pieces yesterday are the ones that look more like the male, since he took unscented fuzzy - no problem, whereas the female won't even consider them when scented
this just occurred to me and I'm at work, so I'll check later

so three more ate
these like worms
the last one hasn't liked any of it so far
he also looks a bit dull
perhaps he needs to shed

I'm a happy woman
not only did all the babies eat
the worm eaters took unscented pinkies yesterday
and so did two of my babies from Scott

Yep
But Rhea
Don't forget that
I fed the other
2 babies from
Scott, minnows.

since I had to take Sammy to get her stitches pulled
the red spots had their "well baby" visit with the vet today
he popped them and we're pretty sure there's four males and four females
they're all eating pinkie strips
their mom just shed and looks all sleek and glossy
I am in baby heaven
just wish mom could be convinced to take rodent
there's always something, right?
