From What I know of California resided there should be a little blue in an adult, but then again I am no expert. I hope I am just mistaken and someone is not try to take advantage of people interested in the joys of garter snakes.

Not all infernalis are blue, in fact most are not in the wild, the "neon blue variety" is a locality morph of infernalis.

Interesting thanks for the information Jeff. It still seems like they are asking a lot for it.

Something seemed fishy to me. I might try to ask him some questions to get a guage of his shadiness.

I asked him if he had proof that these were in fact T.s. infernalis. He was less than thrilled about my question. His answer was that he has 35 years of experience. I was not particularly impressed with this answer but maybe I am a cynic.

Got a call from Steve Schmidt. He thinks it is an T. s. infernalis and provided these links.

California Red-sided Gartersnake - Thamnophis sirtalis infernalis (http://www.californiaherps.com/snakes/pages/t.s.infernalis.html)

Those are great links and it could certainly be what he says it is.

I've been trying to figure out what that thing is, lol! It's almost patternless! Very cool looking snake!

Now that's a real testament to the diversity location and or locale in a particular state can play. The variations in coloration and patterning of a species and its subspecies. Very interesting! Thanks for sharing that.
