:) Great. My son John is very happy.He said he would be happy either way but even more happy if Kurly was a boy.

whoooooohooooo!!!!! THANKS!!!!!!!!!! This is his first pet and nothing at all against female snakes but if you could see the smile on my son's face then you would know why I am so happy for him. Sort of like when a man finds out that his first child is a boy ;)

It is really clear to me too that it is a male.

Here is a pic of Kurly. I have a few more that have been posted and I have been told that he is a Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis (Eastern Garter Snake)

I agree, it's a male. Definitely not a Checkered, looks like an Eastern to me.

he kinda looks like my T. s. Sirtalis, but hard to tell from that pic!!!!

Its hard for me to get a good pic of him. Especially since I am taking these with the camera on my cell phone. But here is one that is a little clearer. Does your snake look like this?

That's an Eastern (T. s sirtalis). This one I am sure of.

there are very few species I can reliably identify
