I would say no, that isn't a Thamnophis sirtalis parietalis - Red-sided garter. Could you post a few more photos showing face, neck and lateral areas, Please.

Nope. Sure seems to be a lot of mis-representation lately.

What are you feeding? Posting some close up photos of the face from the side will let us do a scale count. A good focused photo of the lateral will also be nice. The lateral stripe is on dorsal scale row 3 and 4. Supralabials 7 (rarely 8)

They obviously weren't feeding him enough fish >< Looks more like a coachwhip than a garter right now poor thing : / Throw some earthworms in here and there for a snack, he'll probably love em (make sure they are nightcrawlers and not red wigglers).

Ribbons can be a little difficult to get take worms. They are more into aquatic foods. I had
some success by scenting the worms with tilapia or salmon. Same goes for pinkies.

They love fish. My two ribbons eat pinkies but their love is fish. Try silversides.

The thread I linked will give you and idea of the photos needed to do a scale count.

Is that any better also what's possibly that on left side of mouth could that be mouth rot ? Thanks

Not infectious stomatitis - mouth rot. Could be a retained upper labial scale. They tend to pull the lip up. Your photos are better but I can't get an accurate count.

Could it possibly be aThamnophis sauritus sackenii ?

According to "The Garter Snake - Evolution and Ecology page 250, T. s. sackenii has 8 supralabials (upper-labials).

I count 9 supralabials on your snake.

indigoman

Yes, the sackeni has 8 supralabials where as the sauritas has 7.
