So, a new two legged member of the family will be joining us in December, and the snakes are being evicted from the spare upstairs bedroom.
There are only a couple of places to move them (for now, I'm still trying to get my brother-in-law to move out :P): the office, and the bedroom.
The bedroom has inconsistent lighting, because sometimes my husband takes naps after his early shift, or from getting up late on the weekend. For this reason, I've experimented by moving one "tester snake" into the office. Dart the garter drew the short straw, because his 10 gallon is the easiest to move, haha.
We have central air, but the office tends to be the warmest room in the house. I've seen ambient temps in there (in his enclosure) as high as 81. The substrate temps in the mid 70s, however, on the cool end. I've seen him on both ends of his enclosure since the move, so he's not acting super miserable with the warmer temps. Doesn't seem to go swimming more than normal, either, and he ate just fine.
Do you think this general increase in temps (in the summer) is okay for them, long term?
I might also toss my MBK in there. The Russian Rat...er, I'll have to find some other place for her, as she has cooler temp requirements. Still working on that one, haha.
