Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone could help me id a trio of garter snakes i brought recently. They were labeled as Northen garter snakes Thamnophis sirtalis but since looking them up online i cant find anything with that name that looks like them.

Has anyone got any ideas?

Thanks

Russell

Hard to tell from the photos but I think it's a Thamnophis sirtalis parietalis - red-sided garter. Many a red-sided is labeled Northern garter snake.

Ok thanks, shall see if i can get any better photos of them. I haven't seen any red on them tho, they seem more yellow and brown i think.

At least one of those is awfully wispy looking for captive bred. Have they all eaten for you yet?

Yeah all have eaten and have been fed chopped up trout pieces so far. they didn't say weather they were captive bred or not so have started to treat them for worms and other parasites.

Speaking of which I was kinda thinking about doing my own guppy breeding for my checkered and I had the idea that perhaps I could breed fish that shared colors with her. Would that possibly bring her colors out more or are pigments basically wholly broken down during digestion?
