Has anyone heard from Scott Felzer lately? He wasn't returning text for a couple weeks so called and his phone is disconnected. Ed hadn't heard from him either. I am a little worried about him quite frankly.

I tried reaching out to him about 3 weeks ago and never heard back. Don told me that he had purchased some of Scott's stock bc Scott was downsizing his collection. However, that was the most I have heard. Several people on another forum said they were trying to get in touch with him but we're not getting any replies.

I had noticed the 'available' section of his site wasn't being updated like it usually is this time of year. I hope nothing bad has happened :(

I spoke to him probably 6-8 months ago. The number I have has been disconnected.

Has any one reached out to Don and asked? It's very strange no one has heard from him. No one?

I spoke to a couple people that have phone numbers other then the business. They are going to try to contact him. I asked them to report back to us if they can.

Last time I talked to him was about 2 1/2 months ago. I did buy some of his stock along with a friend of mine. He contacted me and said he was a little burned out. I tried both numbers I have for him and they are disconnected. I'm not sure if he is totally out of garters or not. I am also thinning my population due to family stuff. I will post another thread for available stuff.

I remember some people I was talking to about garters who I referred to Felzy tell me they tried already and he never responded, this was a few weeks ago.

I sent an email to him in late May about a possible purchase and never got a response. I was surprised because I had heard everywhere the excellent service he was known for.

It seems to me that he made sure to shut down all the contacts for his business, which in my mind is a sign he is just trying to get out of the hobby. If there were a true emergency I don't know if he or someone else would take the time to shut everything down. I could be wrong but in my mind there is reason to stay positive.

yes i feel the same. he sold over 75 adults and almost all the females were gravid. dosnt sound like someone who wants to stick around. although his website is still up but no activity on it for awhile

So not to sound uncaring to Scott, because I as well think he is probably just fine. Don are you and your friend the ones with the chunk of his collection that he parted with? If gravid what are you guys hoping to produce and what will be available? Maybe start another thread with plans? And again not to come across as morbid or anything but I checked every possible way that I'm aware of to check the status of obituaries in his state and came up with nothing, so hopefully, probably okay.

It seems strange to me that he wouldn't let someone know that he is ok? I mean somebody, anybody so at least we wouldn't have to guess about his whereabouts. You know what I mean? Very strange. Even if you wanted to get out of the hobby and sold your whole collection at least let someone know you are safe and ok. IDK.

It is a little weird... If he were getting out of the hobby I'd expect an update on his website or facebook or something saying that's what was happening considering how prominent he is in the garter community.

I guess I am surprised that he would not have just told me that he was taking a break from the business or whatever. Last time we texted each other was June 2, which is not that long ago. I can certainly understand wanting to disconnect and take a break, as a person gets a lot of emails, phone calls and texts. I'm just surprised he disconnected with me. Hopefully he will read this and get in touch with me at some point just to let me know everything is OK.

I am sorry Jeff. I am new to the hobby and don't truly think I understand what we are losing, but I do know what it is like to lose a friend and respected colleague. In the little time I have enjoyed garter snakes as pets I have started to grasp how much influence Scott had on a very small and close group of hobbyists. I am in no way trying to down play your concern for him.

I appreciate your words. I am actually quite sad/depressed about this, but I understand that sometimes people need to take a break or focus attentions in a different direction, such is life, but I hope that I have not lost a friend permanently.
Your grasp is correct that NOBODY has done more for the garter snake or the hobby than Scott Felzer PERIOD. We all owe him a debt of gratitude and you can never really know or understand all the reasons a person does what they do and the choices they make because we aren't walking in their shoes, but I hope that if he ever does show back up in the hobby that he is welcomed without judgement and respected for what he is "THE GODFATHER" of garter snakes.
Certainly I have went a month and a half without having words with Scott over the years, but this is different and I miss him dearly already.

I would say at least half of the morphs out here wouldn't even be available if it wasn't for scott! Thanks scott felzer we miss you buddy!

Wow, I feel the love Jeff. And to everyone who had any verbal interaction with Scott this is a hard pill to swallow. Including myself of course. I remember purchasing my first and only t.s.radix pair from Scott about 10 years ago and our conversation on the phone about genetics bc that pair was het for albino and how Scott took the time to explain about the breeding and all. He was very influential and reassuring in a way that is missed. I hope his absence is only a temporary thing and we hear from him real soon.

Anything I have accomplished pales in comparison to what Scott did, the vast majority of my collection originated from Scott Felzer either directly or indirectly. Well if he ever wants to pick up a some garters he can have a few morphs "on the house" from me.

I was thinking about contacting Scott to see if he had any adult female albino checkereds available and saw this thread. :/ At least the general consensus seems to be that he's ok, I've seen quite a few reptile hobby people die over the past few months so it would be sad to hear that something happened to him as well.

np lol t.radix radix there is also a sub species t radix haydeni but they dont consider it nomore even though their scale count is different and the haydeni has much cleaner markings/pattern. they share alot of the same range and the only way to tell them apart is scale count lol

The best information at this time is Scott is alive and out of the garter snake business. I know this leaves many unanswered questions but that is all the info. I have at this time.
