Why is my male red side still courting my red sided femal. He follows her everywhere she goes but hes really not doing anything he just courts her

Ha... That's not just a snake thing. Females of a lot of species basically just sit there looking bored while the males do their courting routine.

Sounds like a normal male thing to do to me :)

As long as she's putting out the right pheromones he'll be interested.

Congrats, agree with Tommy on keeping them together until you know your girl is gravid. Hope she has a late litter for you, I would have an interest in scrubs if you need to find homes for some.

Just one opinion I'm sure others will chime in on this as well, I bump up feeding when you know for sure she is gravid. Like any expecting female you're feeding those developing young as well, the extra food on a gravid female is'nt going to hurt her any.

i was always under the assumption that the babies were supplied nutrients from their sacks like eggs and are not connected to mother for food, only blood/oxygen. jeff may know whats going on lol

Yes Tommy that is correct as far as the sacks feeding the young, all I meant which I should have made more clear is that gravid females body is going through the process of getting those snakes into the world and packing on some extra meals beyond what she would normally be used to isn't doing her any harm with her body doing extra work it wouldn't normally be doing if she were not gravid.

Feed them, but make sure it's a variety. Try to go with the hairless over the fuzzies if you can. If they will take it ,try rat pinkies.

This. Garter systems aren't really meant to digest hair and it can cause intestinal blockage. It's not super common, but if they'll take anything else it's not worth the risk IMO.
