Hey community, I picked up a very good looking Puget sound blue 0.1 on 5-21 and have her quarantined. She is feeding as of 5-26 and adjusting well. I was told by the seller that she is a 09 baby from Scott's collection back then. Also I picked up a albino checkered pair from someone I sold to back in 2014. They said there was a issue with the male biting her every time she reached in the enclosure. I found that very hard to believe especially when I reached into the tank and didn't get close to being bitten. The pair was starved and unkept. The female is in better condition. The male has injuries to his lower jaw and neck (laterally). If she did get bit it was bc the two of them have been starved for a long time. Both are undersized and underweight. Got them home tonight and they scarfed down large and small pinkies three for the female and the male took two . I will post pics tomorrow. Thanks guys.:( The male also suffered a prior retained shed on his tail tip and now has a injury there too.

Waiting for pics! It's good the injury to his jaw isn't preventing him from eating. If he does get nippy or aggressive, once quarantine is over, I've found that housing multiple males together makes them a lot less anxious and bitey. They seem more easily stressed by being alone than females do.

Also, this is completely unrelated, but I see in your signature you have "1.0 Candino". What is that, is it a BP morph?

I felt compelled to go and travel 150 miles by car yesterday when she said that she didn't want to keep the albino checkered pair anymore. Actually 300 miles round trip! This is a pair that I produced back in 2014 and since my original male had passed away back in Feb 2015 I was happy to be getting a male back to the collection. I thought about asking her to put them in a box and explain to her how to ship the reptiles but then I had second thoughts and decided to drive there.

Yes, candino is the morph that is produced from a paring of a candy ball to a albino. Fairly new morp that was first produced by Mike Wilbanks back in 2012. The little gangster is very defensive right now but after 2 more meals in him I will concentrate on the handling a lot more. I just call him gangster bc of his feisty behavior. My wife named him Danny. Seller says he is het for pied so we'll see down the road. He weighs 260 gms and is a very good looking specimen. I am very pleased with him. :)

120811208212083Here is the new crew: 2009 Puget blue 0.1 and one each a 1.0 and 0.1 albino checkereds who were for all intents and purposes were rescues. 1.0 albino checkered (second pic) notice the dark spot under lower jaw and the tail tip tissue necrosis. His lower jaw injuries came from fights with his sister over the small amounts of food given by prior owner. The female (first pic) has small injury to her lower jaw as well but not apparent in photo. They both were born back in June 2014 and will be a year old in a week. Unbelievable how stunted their growth is!:(

Glad you got them! 300 miles is a long way, but I'm sure the snakes think it was worth it. :)

Any suggestions or recommendations to try and heal up the tail tip on the 1.0 albino checkered? The injuries to the lower jaw I think are really superficial. The tail I know can spread upwards toward the cloaca in severe cases.:confused: Or will i need to see a vet for the tail ? I was contemplating a vet bc of the nutritional deficiencies.

It looks so far gone it'll probably just fall off on its own. To keep infection from getting in at the rest of the tail, I'd apply betadine to the tip every day till it falls off then painkiller free neosporin or hibiclens to the wound once it does.
Unless it's actually a lot worse than the picture makes it look, he'd probably be fine with no meds whatsoever IMO, but better safe than sorry.

Thanks. I guess it could be worse. No breathing difficulties in either one and no mites or bulges, no gaping bony deformities except the tail issue. No depressions of the body that I saw. I know Melissa Kaplan has a starvation protocol approach for reptiles but I think that is for non feeding animals. These two just won't stop eating at this point. I'll see. Thanks again.

Never heard of that, can you post a link to it? I'd be interested in reading it.

Thanks Steve! Lora, you may have to put Melissa Kaplan before putting in Emaciation. There are several prompts after that for her various topics. Or just try "Anapsid."

Thanks Dan, went to the vet with both albino checkereds and told the story and relayed my concerns. Vet says the male should be ok with the tail issue bc it is so close to the very tip but wanted him on a week of antibiotics. Mainly for the tail but also to speed along the lower jaw injuries since they went so long unattended. Both of them however should have no long term ill effects due to the nutritional deficiency. Feed them every two to three days she said and vary the diet, bc they are so small for their age they should have a aggressive feeding regimen for the next 6 months. Glad that's over!

Yeah, me too! Thanks Ashley. I really was concerned about the male bc I want to hold him and breed him back to his mom. I am glad that I don't have to worry that them not eating. These two eat every thing under the sun! :)

Thanks again Dan, the info I'm getting on the blues is they are difficult to breed in captivity. They need to remain in groups of a couple of males and several females. Most of what is on the market is wild caughts. Big project I guess. Idk. Hopefully the odds gods will be with me on this one. Fingers crossed.

Breaking News community! I broke down and ordered a pair of California red sideds from Jeff. Yes, I went all the way and sacrificed for the "gotta have it garter". I can't wait to receive these two! Thanks Jeff!

Yeah, I know about that radix itch also! I am keeping two spots in the rack open for a pair of those albino radixes from Tommy. You are on my list for the puget Blues if I am successful with that project, thanks. They are killer and she is a great female too. And huge! Lol. Gonna post pics of the infernalis pair once they settle in and have a few meals in them.
