I finally took some pictures of Kurly and will try to post them here. I had to take the pictures with my camera phone and sent them to my email address so I am not sure how well they will look on here but we shall see. I also took them while Kurly is in his (or her) terrarium so I hope the glare of the glass is not too bad.

Kurly is my 11 year oild son's snake and he is the one that usually handles it but he is out of town right now. I am taking care of it while he is away and just getting used to the idea of having a snake as a pet so it is taking me some time to actually hold it - lol.

Anyway, hope I can load these on here. There is one that I took of curly's tail and I was hoping that someone could tell me if Kurly is a he or a she. It is not a pic of the underside , just the top and side so you may not be able to tell.

Thanks and wish me luck!

Can anyone tell me the sex of Kurly by this pic?

If not, then I'll take another one of the underside of Kurly's tail and post it later.

What substrate are you using?

Looks like reptile carpet. I use it for my very young snakes, and as long as one is good about cleaning it every few days, it does well.

I soak my carpets in the good ole 3 percent bleach solution, then rinse well, hang to drip, then finally insert into the dryer when my hubby is not around to protest!

Yes, it's Reptile Carpet. My son wanted to get it because it looks more like grass to him (well, the color of it) and he thought that Kurly would like that. One good thing about it is that it was sold with two in a pack so you always have a clean on one hand. I make sure that my son ALWAYS keeps clean reptile carpet in Kurly's cage. We clean it the same way as you KitKat. There is a cleaning solution made just for reptile carpet but I can't seem to find it in any of the pet stores I have been to. So far it is working out good.

I'll get a better picture when my son comes home this weekend. I'll take it when he is holding the snake to be sure that we get the underside of it.

From what I can make out in the pics I beleive he is a Common Eastern Garter(Thamnophis Sirtalis sirtalis).

Yes, from the photo I think he's a sirtalis too.

Okay. I'll take your opinions over mine because I have no experience identifying snakes - lol.

Do I need to take a better picture or is this one okay? I have been wondering what species he is but it gets kind of hard looking at so many pictures. I am getting myself confused!

I'll have to agree with T. s. sirtalis as well. My initial judgment on the gender is male. Would however like to see the next photo you're posting, could be wrong.
