View Full Version : Need some help IDing this Snake....

Hello Guys and Gals
I need some major help Id'ing this snake, i believe its a Northern brown snake but I'm not sure, can anyone help me out?
I live in Northern New Jersey and was found inside of a corn husk we had on display for over a month in the building where i work...

It's a northern brown for sure. Feeds on worms and slugs, but no red wigglers!

yep dekayi aka brownie aka northern brown snake. great snakes. it looks healthy.

As the other two said (who beat me to it :mad:) its a brown snake. Great looking snake, nice find.

Worms and slugs for sure. Care is much like that of garter snakes. They are more cold tolerant and require little to no extra heat. Here's a link to the forum care sheet. Feel free to ask any additional questions. This forum loves and welcomes the Browns.;)

Now i have 2 problems..... I cant find earthworms anywhere near me and he wont eat, I've tried tilapia fish but nothing..

Never heard of S. dekayi eating fish. Is fish all you've tried?

Also tried wax worms was told not to give him mealworms cause they are to hard for them to digest...

either slugs or earth worms, you can buy worms at petco petsmart also walmart. they are shy eaters, i suggest feeding and leaving alone for a day
