So, my gigantic male eastern, Ziggy, decided to try to escape today. Ziggy was brought to me several years ago by neighbors...he had apparently gotten into something toxic and was very ill. I didn't expect him to make it, but he did...and he has flourished...he has grown to be huge...4 feet long and thick, solid. But he has always been the most skiddish eastern I have come across. After three years, he still freaks out if I even put my hand in his enclosure. And I mean...freaks out. He jumps across the tank, flips around, coils and strikes. So, today...I had to change his water and remove a shed. He began to freak out...leaping through the air and flipping around. Then he leaps out of the enclosure and starts to head down the side of the tank into the book shelf next to it, and under the rack system I have my tanks on. I thought...crap...I am never catching this snake...this is going to be a disaster. I didn't want to grab him because I knew he would be so scared. So, as the last little bit of his tail was disappearing down into the unknown, I touched it lightly. He flipped around, flew straight up into the air...and landed right back in his tank! It was so funny. And, he had a look on his face that clearly said "I don't know where I was going but boy was it scary and I am so glad to be back home!". I don't think he will try to escape again. Ha ha. Where is a video camera when you need one?? :D:eek:
