i recently rescuesed this high red radix he has a really bad respitory infection and hes doing better after his first treatment plan to breed him in the spring or next seoson to either another red radix or a super xmas very excited about this guy oh and hes 3 years old at first sight i took him for a sub-adult at best he was very under fed :(

Tommy what was your pairing to the albino female that you got the snows?

Usually with a respiratory infection, you see mouth breathing, sometimes you see some foaming around the mouth area. If you can get the snake to open his/her mouth...you will definitely see foam at the back of the throat. You can often hear a wheeze or clicking sound when the snake breathes. My dearly departed Cee Cee, had chronic respiratory infections. With her, I had to be very careful about the kind of substrate I used...anything that produced an odor or too much dust would exacerbate her symptoms. When she became acutely ill, I would increase the heat and humidity in her enclosure and the vet would prescribe antibiotics. At one point, I had to give her a course of antibiotic injections. She did not pass from a RI, btw. She just passed from old age.

humidity is bad for ri i decreased the humidity set him inside a small tub with air holes inside a larger tub thats air tight boiled a cup of of water added eculyptis and vicks vapor rub and set it in the tub for 5 minutes checked on him let air in and left for another 5 minutes after just that treatment he made a full recovery in 24hrs this is the home remedy i use for all snakes it works and its cost effective

my biggest gravid female radix has been refusing food for 2 weeks and has been pacing the tank like a wild woman she may be getting ready to drop hoping to wake up to a litter of 50+ (fingers crossed)

Which if it was the normal smaller female I'm curious if she came from the Ranch and Steve? He has been known to work with some pretty nice reds ;) If it was the more hypo looking female I think the thread said she was on breeding lone from Scott ( not sure who). At any rate, a red that nice het for B/W, a keeper for sure! It would be nice to see some of the others.

so i found out the reason she didnt prove out for both types and had more albinos than expected (around 70%) lol she was supposed to be already paired with another het (her sibling) for one week over 4 months ago so when i got her i put my hybino in as a back up and this is what came out

Try another pairing with that red/black ugly non-breeding axanthic of yours and if she still doesn't do anything then she can just come live with me ;).

hahaha i never give up on a garter! i already have a different male snow lined up for spring but i dont think its him. he gave me 3 litters this year and possibly a 4th! if next spring turns out the same as the previous i wont try again and continue my search for another male for female axanthic. i gave her a couple offers so im hopeful she chooses one and dosent decide to keep all. i talked to her for 4 hours last night and didnt come to an agreement. its her first litter so i see why she would want to hang onto them she has 1.0 blizzard 2.0 axanthic 0.1 axanthic 0.1 het axanthic and 0.0.2 baby axanthic and 0.0.1 normal het. shes hoarding axanthics lol

thanks guys. i knew the axanthic was gonna slug out and im glad she did cause now i dont have to worry too much about her dieing on me. i really though the albino was gonna have a nice litter everything seemed right with her and even felt like she had fully formed babies in her but garters just arent meant to double clutch i guess.

I was just thinking the same thing but I don't have my albino radix pair yet. My projects for the spring are gearing up and I am hoping to produce those granite males to be available next spring. Fingers and toes crossed. I will be happy with het granite males!!
