Where are you located? It looks like Thamnophis sirtalis. Probably the pariatalis or sirtalis subspecies.

Wow, Louisiana has lots of fascinating herps.

I don't think red sided's range that far south so it'd be Thamnophis sirtalis sirtalis.

I used to catch Mississippi Tss. Looks like an Eastern to me.
