View Full Version : waste of worms
I have two radix scrubs who I try to feed every other day. I place the dish of chopped up worms in front of the hide. They come out check it out and then, right back in the hide. These snakes are skittish and I know Im wasting food. zI have tried feeding at night, early morning. Terrarium covered. Etc. Tried fish, etc.. should I reduce the frequency of feedings? IMO due to their metabolism, frequency of defecation, I would think they would eat more.
Alot of people say garter snakes are a begginers snake. It was easier for me to feed a Gaboon Viper than these two headaches (,meant with love).
Frustrated,

Relax. Have you tried any earthworms lately? Changing the frequency sounds like a good idea. Wait 5 days then see how they do.
Hungry garters are less picky.
Yeah, I act like a worried father. The earthworms did the trick for one. And the other well Im banking on a shed. If not we will see what happens in 5 days.

Like Steve said, just wait a bit longer between tries. Especially if the food is left in there in a dish, they seem to get used to it and treat it like part of the environment after awhile. They get more excited when the food suddenly just appears out of the sky and is a new thing. That's the reason I try to get all mine to tong feed even when they're very young; they have a tendency to ignore food if I just leave it in there.
