I am getting a little worried about a radix scrub. She was once enthusiastic about food and out of nowhere hasnt fed in a solid week. I figured it was her time to turn blue but no signs yet. She has "bit" the food but left it. I'm hoping its just the fact that I am honing in on a upcoming shed.

Go dig some earthworms. They have a different scent then night crawlers and can sometimes make a difference with young snakes.

My bad. I later found the earthworms had just escaped. Then the crazy snake takes a portion of night crawler from my hand. WTH! Does anyone have that just crazy radix or Thamnophis. When it comes to all of its behaviors?

You're aware that a week is not a long enough period of non-feeding to cause concern?

Obviously I worry sooner with a scrub than an adult, but I have a male radix that's probably 4 years old that routinely goes off food for 6-8 weeks at random times in the year. I've got blacknecks that are positively anorexic, they can go six months then gorge themselves. My two current scrubs (a radix and an infernalis) will both stop eating for a week or so before going blue.

How often are you feeding? If you're feeding frequently it may simply be that they know food is abundant so don't feel the need to grab it every time you offer.

They are fed every two days. Probably no concern really. I love my snakes and just want them to be healthy and happy.

Do you have other garters? If it's just one not eating I'd put it down as a blip for that one, especially if you have others that are eating. If several stop at the same time it is more concerning.

Just one stopped feeding.

I just checked the terrarium. It had a nice shed in it. Didnt even blue for the shed. Crazy night.

Ill chalk it up to a shed and an overly concerned parent.

Not probable, the opaque phase is a natural part of shedding.
It happened fast and you just missed it is more the case. Was this an albino? If so, it's easy to miss the opaque phase.

I swear. I am in contact with this snake multiple times daily and it never even had clouded eyes. Its normal phase. The bloodline had some morphs. It must have happened fast.

The important thing is the shed is off. Was it a complete shed? Tail and both eye caps?

Yes. I assumed it was going blue
because of litterally staying on her hot spot for a week. Then it ate last night and heres the final product10717, tail and eye caps.

Must have been when I was busy (opaque phase).
You are absolutely right. Im just happy the shed went well!

Good clean looking radix.
