Hello folks, I finally have the net turned back on at home so I can post easier. I have just started keeping garternakes again after many years away from them. I was inspired to start back up mostly because I think I stumbled upon an odd looking male eastern gartersnake the other day. He now resides in 30 gallon set up with three other friends (snakes caught in the same vicinity in hopes of finding a female to mate him with)...down side its a bachelor pad at the moment lol. I hope the girls wake up soon because I hope to get at least one female from near where he was found. I am also working on getting some females from alternate sources as well. I really want to try to get him busy soon :).

Nice to have you with use. Here's a link to the forum care sheet which is always a good read. We'd love to see some photos of your garters and setup.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone, its always great to see. I was wondering where should I post pics at? Its been ages since I've done more than lurk on a forum and I try not to give the mods more to do with moving stuff around if my aim is off :), I used to be a mod on a fish forum and that was most of what I did lol.

Hello again,
Sorry that it took so long to get back to everyone but between working second shift and preparing for the imminent arrival of a pinky human in our house its been a bit busy. I think i have the picture uploaded properly. Tomorrow is bath and feeding day for the bachelor pad so I'll try to get some better pics of everyone then. I have been looking over random threads on here and am fascinated by the variation in garters. Even the natural morphs are beautiful. I'll try to write more tomorrow when I am not half asleep at the helm. Btw that is not their current home. That was their first home for a few days while I was getting some meals into them and now they are sharing a 30 gallon tank :).

I managed to snag a couple shots of my snakes while trying to feed them tonight. He grabbed his nightcrawler like a champ but before I could too many shots of him he started to try to give the meal back so I expedited him back to his house. Its hard to get the colors on him to show. i think when I have a good warm day I'll take my lil buddies outside and see about getting some shots in natural sun light.

Wow that is an awesome looking snake, i can't I.D. what kind of garter it might be. you will need to have someone else with better skills. But you might want a few better pics even in his tank, like a full body shoot from above and maybe a good shoot of one side. I think those would help out most for a positive I.D. of the subspecies. Also the state and general part of the state so someone can tell you if it is truly an odd variation for that area. All i can say is that i can't remember seeing one quite so different, and that i think it is an awesome variation congrats on finding him/her i would love to have one that looks similar.
EDIT: you might not need better pics I'm using the mobile version and didn't see pics attached that way, but the state and Astra of the state would be helpful

This snake was found in Kent County Michigan, should be an eastern garter (unless someone lost or released something else). I'm trying to get him to sit still for a good photo shoot but he seems to enjoy other ideas. 1046710466 Here are a couple shots of him sitting still while polishing off a nightcrawler.

Thanks for all the welcomes, I figured I'd update it a bit, I am pretty sure I have managed to find a couple girls from near where I found him (within 30 feet). They are living solo at the moment since they look rather gravid. This week they will all get a try on tilapia and then if that goes well (which it should) next feeding will be rodents or scented rodents. If my camera has enough charge in it tonight I'll try to get some shots of the bachelor pad. There might be a move in the near future (more space for the pinky human), so if thats the case they will all get their own housing (provided I can sneak it past the apartment people). I heard from a fellow fishkeeper (my other hobby) that he spotted a snake similar in color to the one I have. He didn't keep it though and I haven't been able to get a reasonable local to go search for it. I take things with a grain of salt until I get a positive view of it.
