As some of you may be aware, I'm new to keeping garters (my forte is Mexican boas / Pituophis) but I'm hoping to pick
up some more at the Hamm show in March. I've been very intrigued to read on this forum on the practice of co-habiting
garters, I've only kept snakes individually previously, only putting them together for breeding purposes. My question is this...
would the following species / sub species be compatible in a suitably sized viv or vivs, obviously segragated by sex and size,
T.atratus atratus, T.sirtalis concinnus, T.sirtalis infernalis and T. ordinoides or should I house them individually. Would they be compatible with my T.sirtalis tetrataenia (the San Frans would probably be a year or so older than these)

Thanks..

Martin

I would house the T. ordinoides - Northwesterns by themselves due to the size difference as adults. Overall they will be small compared to the other species you mentioned.
Just my opinion.

I used to keep more than one in a cage, too many "accidents"

Now I only keep one per enclosure.

I agree with Steve on the ordinoides, and I'd also add that unless you have found someone at Hamm who will have them, you'll be very lucky to find ordinoides in Europe.

I think the San Frans will be too much bigger.

If you keep infernalis together always separate for feeding. They're the only ones I've had accidents with, their personality seems to be very food oriented.
