I no longer have mine, It was destroyed in the 1995 house fire.

When they were current machines, I had to modify a standard RCA cassette recorder for the tape drive, Popular Electronics ran an article on how to do it with just a couple IC chips and a breadboard.

Damn Stefan, That stuff is in great shape for it's age.

Damn Stefan, That stuff is in great shape for it's age.
Well, the box has about a dozen bullet holes in it and the plastic on the C64 is cracked. And the TV cable is in very poor condition on both machines and should have been repaired in the late 80's. And the tape recorder sustained some damage at some point between 1986 and 1989, but it should still work.

It's official. I'm on my way to being a domestic goddess. This morning I have make garlic and chilli butter to bake some corn on the cob in. EasternGirl
12-03-2011, 03:41 PM
Yeah...it's always glitchy for me...always has been...like certain websites it will not show pictures and I always have to open internet explorer if I want to view pics on those websites...and it gives me grief on facebook too. Now from what I understand there are ways to fix these glitches if you are tech savvy but I know nothing about stuff like that so therein lies the problem...I'm probably a person that should just stick to internet explorer but I do prefer firefox for a lot of things.

kibakiba
12-03-2011, 03:43 PM
I'm not very tech savvy, I do have a boyfriend who does that sort of stuff... But he hates firefox (and has never even used it ;)) so he wont and cant help me with it if for some reason it's not working. It's usually my computer causing the problem though.

EasternGirl
12-03-2011, 03:47 PM

My drug addict aunt is living with us this week. She has just 5 rules to abide by while living here... 1, do not bug me. 2, stay out of my office. 3, stay out of my bedroom. 4, don't touch anything that belongs to me (she has a record of stealing ALL of my jewelry for drug money) and 5, don't do drugs.
She's broken the first 4 and screamed at me when I told her she wasn't going to be here long if she broke another rule. I said there's a homeless shelter 30 miles from here, start walking. This woman is incredibly thick if she thinks she can use her age over mine when it comes to my, and my mom's, generosity. I'm sick of her ****, she's manipulated my mom and took advantage of her when she was comatose from her medications... Seriously, how can someone sit there and break almost every rule in this house when she has NO WHERE else to go? People like her make me sick. I really can not understand why someone can be THAT stupid, she's about as dumb as a mentally challenged manatee. Sorry, had to rant a bit about it... I'm tired of people taking advantage of the fact I'm quite generous to those in need... But...

EasternGirl
12-05-2011, 07:51 PM
Count to ten and breathe...you're in the right...she shouldn't take advantage and she should follow your rules if you are kind enough to let her stay especially if you are letting her back in after she stole from you. Perhaps she needs a night at the shelter to learn to appreciate your generosity. She probably wouldn't have trouble following your rules after that. It is a good thing to be kind to others but we have to set boundaries to protect ourselves too.

She's trying to get on my good side by talking about things she knows I like, belly dance for example. She's also offering, continuously, to make me dinner since I haven't eaten all day. Her brain is kind of stuck at 16, what's when she started doing drugs. She's pretty much walking on eggshells with me, and my mood is very testy.... Though I think anyone has the right to be testy after being screamed at by someone who broke a rule, becaue it's a "stupid" rule. ;)

EasternGirl
12-05-2011, 09:37 PM

As much as I hate receiving damaged goods in the post, the damaged viv we received yesterday may yet have a silver lining. They are sending a replacement and don't want the damaged one back. So a small crack on the top rear-right corner of a 2' ExoTerra may be rendered usable with a combination of hot glue on the inside, and duck tape outside. If I can fix it we have an ExoTerra viv for free (or whatever it costs me to repair it). Happy days, more room for snakes when we have somewhere to shelve it.

You are aware that UK VHS tapes will not play in an American VCR aren't you??

Europe uses 24 frames per second, and The USA uses 30 frames a second.

America uses NTSC (A National Television Standard) and Europe uses PAL (Phase Alteration by Line) meaning each line is reverse phase from the previous line.

These standards are irrelevant with DVD, Since DVD uses region coding to lock out players from other countries.

France uses it's very own standard too, as does Brasil. for a total of 4 completely incompatible video standards.

Not sure about right now, but Germany used to have one standard for each side of the Berlin wall.

I still have a 3 tape set of "Live Aid" as broadcast on RAI (Italian TV) that was sent to me in the mail.

What kind of crazy t.v. show was talking about snake farts? I want to see that show. And here we go again...Richard, you were shot at???

Yeah. Not too proud of the kind of lifestyle I led in my 20's. (1990's) I was a very bad boy:o and paid dearly for it. Still I couldn't help but laugh when I was selling all my snakes and Stefan asked "are you going to prison Richard?" Already did that. That's all behind me now.:) I would never do anything ever again that would cause me to be jailed. Or shot at, for that matter. I've very grateful that I even survived. Good thing the dude was a lousy shot. I can't honestly say the 90's wasn't fun, but it was also quite tragic. I don't care to repeat that decade but I don't think I would change a thing if I had a chance to do it over again. I'm a better person today because of it.

Way to dig up an old post, Wayne. Funny thing is, nobody said a dang thing about it until now.

I was totally serious though. When that speaker fell, I got so startled and got the biggest adrenaline rush I've had since the bullets were flying at me in 1994.

I thought I noticed a sharp drop in users after the latest forum upgrade, but that may just have been my imagination. I do want to point out that there's a huge difference between summers and winters here. As long as people find garters in the wild, there are more users here and when winter comes, they tend to disappear. I've noticed the same trend with my videos on YouTube.

Keepers also tend to stay here until they feel that they have found out all they need to know about garters for the time being and then they stop posting and fade away. Even those who are long-term users of the forum tend to fade away as their lives or priorities change.

I'm constantly here, because I always have a browser open and this forum happens to be among the half a dozen tabs I have open.

I wish you could see how depressing it really is. Since I became a user, this forum has shifted from a majority of very serious breeders to a majority of pet owners that essentially come here to blog about their snakes. Not that I find anything wrong with that, but it does show that this forum has become less appealing to those who would have the most to teach the rest of us.

Then again, maybe I'm making too many assumptions and there's a simpler and better explanation.

EasternGirl
12-18-2011, 04:50 PM
I like the fact that there are serious breeders on here that can educate...but I also like the threads in which pet owners blog about their snakes...that part is interesting to me and it builds a sense of community and family on the forum that I have come to treasure. I have made friends and connected to people and look forward to sharing in the day to day joys and sorrows of their lives with their garters. The information about garters initially attracted me to the site...but it was the sense of community that kept me coming back.

Depends what else you want to use it for. Tablets are great for surfing the net in front of the TV. Having said that I don't have a tablet, but most of the time when I stop by the forum it's on my Android phone - consider it to have all the functionality of a larger tablet but it works well as a phone as well because it fits in my pocket. So phone with 4.3" screen is fine for surfing the web, which means something like the Galaxy Tab (I've used friends' tabs, and they are excellent) with a larger screen would be good as well.
On the other hand netbooks are dead cheap now because nobody wants them, tablets and touchscreen devices are the future. :)

Then again, maybe I'm making too many assumptions and there's a simpler and better explanation.

some of us kinda go into brumation with our snakes :D I am still on here all the time, just don't post as much (well, this year I haven't, been a not so great year) and I am one of the first ones to join this forum!

The thing that is attractive about the forum is the huge base of knowledge and experience. I'm guessing there's a lot of people who read posts asking for advice, see that good advice has been given and don't see the need to post the same thing, but if there was an unanswered question or bad advice they would post in response.

When it comes to keepers of pet snakes and serious breeders... Tomorrow's serious breeders have to come from somewhere. It's not like anyon wakes up one morning and decides to convert a room in their house, fill it with a hundred garters (including some of breeding age), and just starts breeding.
I'd like to think at some point our Cuitzeo pair will breed, and further down the line our Western Blacknecks. Given how few of either of these there are in the UK that would give me something in the order of 25-50% of breeding pairs of those species in the UK. That would make me a serious breeder, even if the babies are produced by our pets (which all have names). :)

Has anyone ever ordered items from CafePress? The English Setter rescue I used to volunteer for had some images they uploaded, and you could get bumper stickers, hats, t-shirts etc, with the logo.

I was looking at my brand new, unadorned car and thinking I sure could use a Thamnophis.com bumper sticker...

I read every single post up until about June this year.

I think I have been guilty of spelling Stefan wrong....and yes there are more people on ssnakess these days...and yes Tress I have ordered stuff from Cafepress...decent stuff. Of course I prefer this forum because it is dedicated to garters but no one is ever around anymore...so I am probably over on that forum these days more too.

One of my favorites is...

Why do we park on a driveway, and drive on a parkway?

Still 250.

Which brings up a point. Wouldn't the number of pages depend on your settings? I mean, it would depend on how many posts per page you are displaying, wouldn't it? I believe you can change that in your preferences, in most forums. Changeable because more posts per page will cause each page to take longer to load, and you can adjust it for best performance according to your internet speed.

RedSidedSPR
