Oh yeah, the fires are definitely getting worse. The high cascades complex fire in Oregon has burned over 100 square miles as of yesterday, and still going strong. High winds made it much worse today.

A doctor was having an affair with his nurse. Shortly afterward, she told him that she was pregnant. Not wanting his wife to know, he gave the nurse a sum of money and asked her to go to Italy and have the baby there.

"But how will I let you know the baby is born?" she asked.

He replied, "Just send me a postcard and write "spaghetti" on the back. I'll take care of expenses." Not knowing what else to do, the nurse took the money and flew to Italy.

Six months went by, and then one day the doctor's wife called him at the office and said, "Dear, you received a very strange postcard in the mail today from Europe, and I don't understand what it means."

The doctor said, "Just wait until I get home and I will explain it to you."

Later that evening the doctor came home, read the postcard, and fell to the floor with a heart attack. Paramedics rushed him to the hospital emergency room. The head medic stayed back to comfort the wife. He asked what trauma had precipitated the cardiac arrest.

So the wife picked up the card and read: "Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti, Spaghetti - Two with sausage and meatballs; two without."

I just "proved" (he was gullible today) to someone I could speak Latin by rattling off a bunch of Latin thamnophis sub-species.

Just said stuff like "thamnophis concinnus pickeringii ordinoide", and "aratus sirtalis parietalis."

Priceless.

ConcinusMan
09-01-2011, 12:10 PM
And technically it's not even Latin. "Pickering" is the name of the dude that described that subspecies. "Thamnophis" technically isn't even a word. It's a combined adaptation of two words and their both Greek.

I love xp MCE.. I wouldn't want to change it.

Hence the delay on my part. I bought Windows 7 Ultimate more than a year ago.

The only thing available for my hardware when I built this contraption was Windows Vista and I knew better than to go that route. I wanted Media Center and whatnot, but no way I was going to put Vista on this thing to slow it down and cripple it when I could go with an older OS, still have media center, and have it run like a racehorse. That strategy worked out just as planned. Ive seen better hardware run much crappier than my machine, because it had vista on it.

I know people who jumped on that Vista bandwagon and purchased some really bad-as hardware but put Vista on it.

If they were to go neck and neck with my machine, mine would blow them away in sheer speed and responsiveness.

Well, Windows 7 isn't Vista. It's the next generation Xp core. Stable and fast. Any machine would be more responsive with XP or Windows 7 but run like crap with vista. Straight up fact. Windows 7 runs great because while it may look like vista a bit, it's really just built on XP which is built on Windows NT. The longest running, most stable OS that Microsoft ever made.

With all that said, I'm having problems and didn't install it just yet. I'm having a I/O error issue. I'll solve it. Just need to look at the problem with fresh eyes tomorrow.

I'm only doing this to the PC so I can sell it for a few hundred. Honestly if it doesn't work out, I'll just wipe it clean and give it away to a good (educational) charity along with it's already valid XP license, AND the windows 7 ultimate license, and let them worry about reinstalling the OS. The hardware is good and it's a very reliable machine with excellent hardware. Built it myself about 3 years ago, better than any PC you could buy at that time, and it's a rock solid performer.

Plus it looks really neat and lights up. You know, the important part. LoL.

Actually, the vast majority of the problems with vista were corrected with windows updates. It's not quite as efficient as 7, nor does it have all the bells and whistles, but I noticed fairly little difference when I switched to 7. I really think it's a case of "if enough people say it, it must be true" / "perception is reality".

In fact, I believe there were studies where when vista wasn't called "vista" people rated it highly, but when others were told it was vista, they rated it much lower. Doesn't surprise me.

Jeez, seems like just yesterday that we had 45 days of straight rain. It was so wet we were getting 2 inches of rain in a day, days on end, and the ground was saturated that the water had nowhere to go.

No it's so bone dry that water evaporates before it can penetrate the ground. Man it's dry today. The wind is blowing around 35mph from the east side desert and the gorge is funneling it to the Portland area. Humidity is around 18 percent and its heating up fast.

I think I'll have to do some tank misting today for sure.

The fires are totally out of control today across much of Oregon and Washington. The high cascades fire alone has burned somewhere around 150 square miles of old growth forest. What a waste of timber!

The wind is taking the smoke right over my house. It's blocking out most of the sunshine. There's so much uplift at the site of the fires, that it creates huge "tornados" of smoke and flames reaching hundreds of feet into the air like this. The smoke is creating it's own weather and there has even been lighting produced by it.

Only the far west horizon of the sky is smoke free now. 2/3 of it is just brown. No more sunshine. It's 85 degrees, winds coming from the east (where the fire is) sustained at 15 mph, gusts to 25, humidity less than 20%

Still can't smell smoke. The air quality at ground level is pretty good so that's good news.

A few hundred feet in elevation (you're much higher than I) can make a 10-20 degree difference in the overnight low. Lower elevation is warmer overnight during the summer. In winter, wind sheltered areas are colder and it's warmer where there's wind due to the friction that wind creates in the air.

There are no clouds. It should be bright and sunny. As you can see, it's not. Too much smoke. Luckily, so far there is no smoke at ground level. I can't even smell it.

Video: 1800 acres burned, and counting. Mid to upper 90's, very low humidity, and high winds forecasted for the next 7 days. Not good.

This unproven spirited female is one of only a couple of anerythristics in the world that I know of. She was found in West Virginia in 2009. She is a big girl and she eats unscented frozen thawed adult mice. Breeding her to an albino should ultimately create a second eastern snow strain. The very tip of her tail is slightly stubbed.

$950 shipped.

Pretty snake but it seems like an awfully high price for being unproven. I have my doubts that this any actually melanistic or any kind of morph. Could just be a normal and an anomaly. $950 is one heck of a gamble. That' a lot of money for a snake if it turns out to not be a genetic reproducible morph. I mean, I had a northwestern that looked very similar but I have no reason to believe it to be a genetic morph or reliably reproduced.

Definitely gorgeous though!

I mean, this northwestern I found is technically normal. It's not a mutation. Its just polymorphism. I think that is the case with that eastern too, but I guess we'll see.

My mom sent me this e-mail today. (this is a 3 post sorry)

These pictures were taken by one of the road crew members at Cloudbreak , Arizona last week. It took a total of 5 hours for the Desert King Snake to finish off the Goanna (Sand Monitor).
As you can see, they put some stakes with flag tape on them plus a hazard/danger triangle up to help keeping someone from running over them .Looking at the man then comparing him to both the Desert King and the Goanna the snake looks to be at least 8' and the lizard 5'.What do you think?

I have something very awesome to tell you all. I just got a tank(30 gal?;I think) for free. But I cant use it yet because the neighbor I got it from didnt have a lid. The measurements are 35.75" long x 11.75" wide x 15.75" high. I cant wait to find a lid(hopefully free...lol) or my hubby will make one..i dont know. My snakies are gonna love it. I wanted to tell you all the great news about the tank and to see if u knew what the gal size is by the measurements. She said it was a 25gal but it looks bigger. It leaks water so it cant be used for that but I wasnt so thats ok with me. Also I got some cool things to go in it as well. Just a couple but thats cool cause it was things I didnt have. Thank you very much. What a great site. I put in the measurements and it said....."The size of your tank or cage is approximately: 28.64 Gallons" and they said it is approx because its if I did the measuring right. So basically when I look for a lid it should be for a 30gal.

guidofatherof5

Anything they can catch and hold.

Common Sac Spider Bite

The bite of a common sac spider (Chiracanthium) can be misdiagnosed as a brown recluse spider bite. Injuries develop in a similar manner but are much less severe. Reactions, such as swelling, slow healing, and ulcerated sores around the bite site, are similar enough to be confusing. If you are bit-ten by a spider, ice and elevate the bite site. Seek medical attention if the symptoms persist or intensify. Physicians will often prescribe antibiotics to prevent secondary infections. Most bites will start to improve in a few hours to 2-3 days.

Holy crap it's hot tonight. Hotter than it was late in the afternoon. Weird. It's after midnight and it's still 87 degrees F. Pretty unusual weather for tomorrow too. Close to 100 degrees and the humidity is supposed to be around just 8 percent. Feels more like desert in August than Sept in W. WA. Did I mention it's dry as a popcorn fart? Holy crap, I can dry soaking wet denim genes in the shade in about 30 minutes. Holy crud that's dry. Not complaining. I like desert but it's just very unusual for this area. A few months ago we were soaking wet with no relief in sight. Now we're so dry it's like living Desert Springs, CA.

Even the hardiest of trees are literally wilting, that is, if they aren't burning. Wildfires across OR and WA are only getting bigger, more of them, and harder to control. Many are now prompting evacuations and threatening communities. haven't seen the likes of this fire season in decades.

The weather tomorrow will blow the smoke back in my direction once again, and it will hotter than... well, hot.

Nothing here. Just clear skies and hot, hot, hot, and super dry. I wouldn't be blessing the electrical storm. The weather tonight will likely start more massive wildfires.

I love a good electrical storm though. Damn, Reno has some pretty spectacular ones around the end of summer. There's not much for the lightning to hit so not so bad for wildfires. Just gotta watch out for the torrential flash flooding. Some place miles away can get a heavy downpour for 5 minutes, and if you're in the Washoe valley, guess where the water goes? It sure as heck doesn't soak into the ground.

katach

ConcinusMan

No rain in sight. Just hot and dry for some time to come.

Oh, you mean the show is aurora borealis (or the northern lights). I guess that's an electrical storm of sorts. Yeah I've seen that a few times here and even in the mountains of New Mexico. Gotta get away from the city lights and out where there is a clear view of the Northern horizon. Nearest place I can to that is about 8 miles from my house. I only ever really see a pleasant shade of green here though. Not any other colors to speak of.

Oh and thanks for pretending like you give a damn but yeah, I am quite safe from wildfire here. The nearest one would have to cross the Columbia River and burn though many square miles of city to get to me.

Businesses are kind of stupid like that, they always discontinue things people like to have. I guess if they put it out once a year people would flock to buy a ton at once and eat them until they get tired of them... Makes money, but pisses people off to the point where they might even stop eating there at all.

Wouldn't you know it, they kept the other two kinds and dropped the one I liked.

I can understand that they have limited ingredients to make their stuff. But the ingredients for a Santa Fe beef gordito are still used in their other items, except for the orange sauce. What happened to that delicious orange goo?

Im sorry to be jumping back to so far in conversations but back on around page 850 I think we were talking about spirits and stuff. Well last night in my home was full of activity. There were sounds and orbs everywhere. I have takin pics before of orbs and I know I told you guys about them but last night was packed full and once I get the pics on the computer today I will post some for you all to see.
I dont know how many of you believe but I am a strong believer. I am also a recepter of them if thats makes sence to you all. We have 3-4 in my house that I am aware of right now. A little girl(Sarah), a male, and a woman named Eedie(i dont know how she spells her name) But last night I took a empt memory card and put it in my camera and out of about 750 pics that the card can hold I took 400+ pics. Out of those that I can see from the screen of my camera I got like 20-30 pics with orbs in them . Some had 2 in them and 1 had 3 but they mostly only had 1 at a time.
Some of the things that happened were loud banging sounds like something fell which my hubby heard but I was in the bedroom and the girls and cats and snakes were all asleep . so we knew that it wasnt any of them. then I heard heavy breathing from a male in the bedroom that had nothing to do with the cartoon that was on the tv. After that heavy breathing From my elbow to my wrist was freezing cold but nothing else was and I had no air condtionare on or anything of that kind. On top of the fact that the hair on that arm was on end. something else that happen was that I went into the beatroom to use the mirror and it was a warm night so no reason for cold chills or anything but what do you know a major cold chill came over me along woth the hair on the back of my neck was on end. for about 5 minuts I felt like I was a lone and part of that I didnt feel like myself.
Sarah(little girl) that I had told you about a cocuple mmonths ago also would stop playing in the hallway last night. skipping and running and jumping like haylee does .But like I said everyone was asleep including animals but hubby and I were still awake.
Wowo I wish I could tell you everything but the "book" would take forever to write. Like I said I dont know if you believe or not but if you arent a believer and if you were at my house last night you would be a believer now. I will have some pics up later so that you can see some of the things we saw. I wish I had recordings of what was heard but I need to get the right recorder and maybe I can get more things and post those.

Had to tell you all and if you have questions feel free to ask away and I will answer them. You can ask here or in a PM it doesnt matter to me.

Randi, that's pretty wild! I've always felt like I had a bit of a sixth sense, but have always been afraid to dig any deeper for fear of attracting things I'd rather not deal with or have the experience to deal with correctly. I'm certainly fascinated by your stories, though! Interesting stuff!

A lot more happen last night but like I said... last night alone would be a book....lol But lots of these things happen to me a lot and sometimes Im not able to tell what my feeling is about other then if it is a good feeling or a bad feeling. But I have a lot of stories that I would be able to tell. Something that I would like to mention is that a couple night before this Sarah played my keyboard. She likes to tap on the keys and so I decided to keep it plugged in and on so that if sh wants to she can play and for a while after I did that she wouldnt touch it . but a few night agao actually it was during the day I was talking to my hubby on the phone and all cats were slleping on the floor where I can see them and Haylee was by me and my other daughter Samantha was at school so no one was by there. But i was talking with the hubby on the phone and Haylee and I hear the keys being played. I asked Rod if he heard it and he said no but he told me to grab the camera and start taking pics over ther and I said bye to him and grab my camera and just started taking them. about the 3rd pic I got her. It was an orb but I know it was her. I love it that they come here. I think it is the coolest and it scares me a little but just because its unknown on many details on things. But I have always been fasinated by these things my whole life.

When I was a kid I saw my mom get slapped in the face when we were sitting on the couch at her moms house. Left a red hand print with fingers and everything on her cheek. There was nobody there. The slap came from an invisible hand. My mom said she's known there was a ghost in the house all her life and that's what slapped her. Later that week, A vanity mirror literally flew off the dresser like somebody pushed it hard. Nobody was there. That's the only experience I have with such matters. No orbs, no voices, no apparitions, nothing like that. Events were infrequent while my mom grew up there but they were all malicious like the events I described. This was not a friendly ghost at all. After my grandmother died, all activity in that house ceased. Weird.

Holy cow. Owie. I havent had anything that serious. Sarah likes to tickle( lightly touch youand drag her finger on you ) and the others mainly make a lot of noise. Eedie for the first 2 weeks after I brought her here(didnt mean to) she was scareing Haylee . Where she cuoldnt fall asleep. Eedie I knew wasnt trying to scare her but haylee didnt understand that she was trying to play. I think when Eedie passed she had a young daughter that she played with all the time. Haylee for that 2 weeks couldnt go to sleep like normal but when she actully fell asleep she was fine. But she descibe her and everything to me. thats how I really started to know about her.

This thing was somehow tied to my grandmother. He made himself aware of her and my mom's brother. Touching, sitting on the bed, etc, but didn't bother them or myself other than the occasional moving of objects. I wasn't scared of it but if it was bothering me I would just cuss at it and tell it to go away and it would. But it pinched, slapped, etc. my mother. Didn't like her it all. Liked to abuse her. And like I said, when grandma died, the ghost went with her.

I don't think it's coincedence that her first husband was dead, and my mom's brother was actually from the first marriage. My mom was from a second father after that. Maybe this ghost was the first husband and maybe that's why he abused my mom. Wasn't his kid. That first husband, was a high ranking member of the Cherokee Nation and somewhat abusive (domestic) too, before he died. He could have been that ghost. So when grandma died, he stopped haunting.

blonde motorist was about two hours from San Diego when she was flagged down by a man whose truck had broken down. The man walked up to the car and asked, "Are you going to San Diego ?"

"Sure," answered the blonde, "do you need a lift?"

"Not for me. I'll be spending the next three hours fixing my truck. My problem is I've got two chimpanzees in the back which have to be taken to the San Diego Zoo. They're a bit stressed already so I don't want to keep them on the road all day. Could you possibly take them to the zoo for me? I'll give you $100 for your trouble."

"I'd be happy to," said the blonde. So the two chimpanzees were ushered into the back seat of the blonde's car and carefully strapped into their seat belts, and off they went.

Five hours later, the truck driver was driving through the heart of San Diego when suddenly he was horrified! There was the blonde walking down the street, holding hands with the two chimps, much to the amusement of a big crowd. With a screech of brakes he pulled off the road and ran over to the blond. "What the hell are you doing here?" he demanded, "I gave you $100 to take these chimpanzees to the zoo."

"Yes, I know you did," said the blonde,"but we had money left over so now we're going to Sea World.

This pic was taken at my sisters house. which is where I was talking about on pages 850 or so. Her house has a lot of ghosts/spirits. THe orb is coming down the stairs. You can see it above the railing.

On October 1 or near the end of tht month im getting together with a spirit team here in shiawassee county and going to an old village. Well of whats left of them. Pictures and video aren't really proof. On the tv, you know the ghost story things... They show "real footage" well guess what? Every "orb" is a bug being hit by light in the right way. If you pause the video and look at it you can make out the wings and the body. Another one showed a piece of dust floating downward and the woman said it was her mom. Its a bunch of horse dookie if you ask me.

Things can always be explained scientifically. I had dreams of being possessed and thought it was real, but it wasn't. When I was a kid the nightmares always seemed so real, but they weren't. You can do those voice recordings and just say something into it and edit it and it'll seem real to some mindless drones watching tv.

He could have dreamed it. It happens.

I have had "paranormal" experiences when my drug addict family lived with me. Things only happen when you believe they happen. You're mind can play tricks on you. Drugs can cause it also. When I believed in spirits, it happened, when I stopped believing, it stopped happening. It's the same with a lot of things... If you believe they will or have happened, it will happen.

RedSidedSPR

I'm saying that your pictures are likely dust or something falling andthe flash hitting it. Just because you see an "orb" doesn't mean it's a ghost or spirit. And, I was saying that when people think things are happening, their brain tends to create what they think they're seeing. Like a kid with an imaginary friend, it's real to them but no one else sees them, and no one else believes in that child's imaginary friend.

Mrs N1ntndo

I don't know why you don't think it's dust, but dust particles do quite frequently show up exactly like that in photos. In my photo, the particles are snowflakes, but particles nonetheless. I just picked it, because I didn't have time to look through my gallery for a photo with an orb indoors. A lot of low-light flash photos have them, there's nothing special about them.

I also don't doubt that your keyboard made a sound by itself. I used to have a computer that would turn itself on. I unplugged it immediately and changed the power supply the second I got a replacement and it never happened again. My point here is that electronics are sensitive and quite easily damaged and they may do strange things on their own.

I don't think anyone's mad and I hope you're not mad at us for doubting. Not trying to ridicule, just trying to make you see that there are rational explanations.

Mrs N1ntndo
09-13-2011, 10:33 PM
I understand what you are saying. I just believe differently. I have had way to many things happen to think of it as a coincidence. I do very much believe what I heard and saw with my own 2 eyes. Not just things that I have taken pics of. Like Ive said befor when I first started the conversation up again. I have a lot of stories I could tell to prove things along with people that have seen and went through things along with me. Im not mad about any of what was said at all. I understand how everyone feels differently about things. If everyone felt the same way about everything then this world would be pretty boring after awhile. Im sorry if anyone thought I was mad but I wasnt I just dont let down on things I believe in and I see that people here dont do that either and thats awesome. Thats why I like coming here. My 2 ghostly cents:
Our brains are like very good, servile dogs. If you believe in ghosts, angels or gods, your brain will oblige, & make them for you, out of anything it can. If you don't believe in them, your brain will also oblige & explain away every spiritual occurrence.

That's how different reality tunnels get created.

I believe there's more to reality than we can imagine, but by having to use our brains to capture it, we are set up for delusion, regardless whether we are 'rational' or 'credulous'. Until we have better tools or better trained brains, no one can share another's reality, much less switch views. It's much easier to over-react, & even get offended at people who don't agree with you.

An enlightened one (Buddha) once said: "Question everything I say".
I like to question what I think, that's my reality tunnel; so I thank people for sharing both their spiritual experiences, & their rational explanations, as long as they don't insist that I believe them by default.

I pray for people to take their believes, any believe, with a grain of salt.

It does go quiet in the mornings (GMT) when trans-Atlantic members are sleeping and most of us European members are hard at work.
My 2 pennith-worth on orbs etc - Ric put it very well, our brains are wired to believe.

Now, as it's quiet let's find out how widespread rugby is across the Atlantic... Congratulations to the USA on their win over Russia in the Rugby World Cup this evening. I think the USA will be lucky to make it out of the group stage, but you never know you may do better than England considering we're in the group of death.

At least 99.999 percent of "hauntings" are hoaxes or easily explained. I have no explanation for what happened in my grandmother's house. I was only about 9 yrs old when I heard the smack, my mom scream, and saw a red hand print appear on her face. There was nobody else in the room. I have also seen impressions (like somebody sitting down) appear on the beds in her house right before my eyes. There was no drugs, sleep deprivation, or any of that going on and I didn't even believe my Grandmother's story of a ghost in the house until that smack so it's not a case of "believing is seeing". I have to say I'm very skeptical of "orbs" or other so-called "evidence". I just don't have an explanation. I heard and saw what I saw.

Mrs N1ntndo

So for everything you are told in order for u to believe u have to see it with ur own eyes. I am also the see to believe and it wasnt only the orbs in the pics. I SAW things b4 my eyes as well. I need to be careful to avoid upsetting the wife. I'm an open-minded skeptic, I want to believe but so far I have seen nothing that can't be explained. Char on the other hand has seen and felt things, and does believe.
I've had some experiences that get a bit of the way there, but nothing I can't explain. Photos can almost always be explained, unfortunately most ghost photos are deliberately faked, and unfortunately digital cameras are susceptible to noise which our brains make into patterns. Orbs are photographic artifacts caused by dust, insects etc.
How many people before they die say they will come back to prove that ghosts exist? How many actually do? And wouldn't you try to do something conclusive if you were a spirit?

Mommy2many
09-15-2011, 05:21 PM
I believe there may be spirits and/or ghosts. However, when it comes to electronic equipment, unless it's sitting in the middle of a room, by itself, unplugged and doing weird things, it can probably be explained away.

Photos are unreliable at best. Orbs, dust, bugs, too hard to dismiss in my opinion. We as human beings, naturally look for "faces" within photos, objects and our environment.

I remain skeptical about most reports but seeing is believing and if Richard saw it, then I believe him.

WTF is a liquid pencil? Never heard of it.

EDIT: Nevermind. I see. it's a dang pen with liquid graphite "ink" Big deal.

The newest "weird" thing when I was in school is erasable ink. As strange as it sounds, eraseable ink makes in impossible to alter (forgery or fraud) a check that has been filled out using an erasable pen. The ink will not be touched by chemical removal methods. Only an eraser will do, which of course, ruins the check.;)

Nowadays, checks themselves use soy ink so any chemical removal method will be detected but it wasn't always like that. believe it or not, the best pen to use on a check was the erasable ink pens.

Yeah they ain't all that, but it feels so weird writing with a pen when you know it's a pencil, and than erasing it..

Newest thing in the pencil department when I was at school were propelling pencils, the ones that look like pens with 0.5mm leads, as opposed to a bit of wood with graphite running through middle that produced pencil shavings. If you were really posh you would have 2 pencils, one with 0.5mm lead and one with 0.75mm leads.

Those are the only thing I use. Love 'em. Called Mechanical Pencils.

I use them all the time as well. Can't remember the last time I sharpened a real pencil. I used to like clutch pencils as well, but haven't seen one around since I left Uni.

Jesse, you can have mine for $350. Just come get it.

2 X 3.2GHZ AMD Athlon64, 2GB ram, 25 inch HD LCD monitor, HD audio with surround 125 watt speaker system(5.1 speakers with 50 watt subwoofer)) Windows 7 Ultimate, Nvidia Geforce 512 MB graphics, 500GB Raid-0 configuration..(two 500GB drives acting as one, read and write at the same time) more....

No, but seriously, I'm just going to leave it here and get the money from my brother in the coming weeks.

While I was watching the local news today at around 5:20PM Pacific time, we experienced a minor earthquake here in SW WA. Centered in Clark County, WA, 11 miles north of Vancouver, WA. 2.7 magnitude. It was nothing really. Just a very short and weak jolt. My dogs totally freaked out but got over it quickly.

I want it! :p

It needs to be under $500, and until October, has to be under $300... so we're waiting.

To give you an idea of why I alwas mess up the videos from my iPhone, is, first, it's an iPhone. Hard to do.

Two, like I've said, I can't view these embedded videos. Which means I can't see what I post, I just have to hope it works. So it's a white blank space regardless for me, I just have to hope it's not for you guys.

Sniff. I miss our crappy, old peice o' crap-ain't-worth-a-crap computer. And I'll keep missing it for a whole freakin' month! It's PAINFUL! http://yoursmiles.org/tsmile/tears/t2309.gif

Just about any desktop will be under $500 these days, even with everything including monitor. Personally I'd rather build one for around $289 than pay $450 for it already built.

A little word of advice. Stay with a 32 bit OS, no more than 3GB ram, and don't waste your money on quad core such as the 2.8ghz X 4 i7 processor. Believe it or not, even being 3 years old, mine outperforms it at 3.2 X 2.

Go for fewer cores (2 or 3) and higher Mhz. Unless you have applications that actually use more than 4GB of ram (hardly anyone does) there's no point in going 64 bit for your OS unless you actually need ridiculous amounts of ram. It will only make a lot of apps incompatible with your (64 bit) OS. It's not worth it.

Exactly. But not under $300 so we gotta wait until Oct.

I'd love it built one... my dad used to build all his.

Stupid edits.:D Thanks, That helps.

I thought more cores was better.

That's what people tend to think. They also think 16 GB of ram is better than 3 or 4. The truth is, the extra cores and ram are rarely put to use in everyday average computer use. Many apps are only written to use 2 cores. You're better off with raw speed than more cores and if you'll notice, quad cores tend to be lower Mhz.

Stupid edits.:D T

Oh yeah, I like my time machine. I like using it to mess with you.:D
