Yeah, we have the same problem. The only "extras" that we get is supplements for the many problems that I have, and I consider that to be a luxury. I get all giddy when I'm able to order a supplement for stomach pain, that time of the month pain, or some other natural cure for something.

I've been through so many of them, that I recognize what's going on right away. Most of the time you can hear them coming before you feel it because windows usually rattle first, making a noise that you can hear approaching, then a second or two later, you feel the ground moving.

I was born in Cali and when I was a kid I felt the Earthquake that was in San Fran and I was 3hrs away from there. My shandleer was swaying and we had water on the floor from the toilet cause it swooshed the water around so hard. It was weird cause at 1st I didnt know what it was cause it was the only Earthquake I can rem being in. Scary though.
As for tornados. I moved to MI about 13 years ago and about a couple years ago there was a huge storm outside so my hubby and I decided to go outside and watch and everything was blowing so hard but we thought it was stroong winds and not a tornado but 2 weeks after we found out an F2 went right ovr us. Ayear after that we had to leave our house cause there were 2 tornados coming right down the highway we live right next to. First we drove 30 miles one direction and had no where to go and we stopped at a gasstation to get get before heading back the other way and the gasstation was right next to airraid sirons and it was so loud that we couldnt cominicate with each other. We had 2 kids in the car that just though we were going for a ride at midnight. Well we headed to my sisters house that has a basement and when we were crossing the overpass by my house and the lightning lit up the sky we saw a tornado on each side of us that were HUGE. We had to go between them to get were we were going so it was soooo scary. when we got to where we were at they didnt have any kind of storm but some rain. Well the next day we went home and our patio stuff was everywhere and the house was fine. Scary but cool at the same time.

Sorry to go off the storm topic, but about how much are yellow collared mini macaws worth? We're going to sell ours because we cant give him the attention he needs anymore, so we're trying to find a good price to sell him and his cage at. kibakiba

Yeah. Should I add in the cost of his cage too, or just let it go for free if they want it? I've never sold anything like this haha, and I really don't want to get ripped off, or rip someone else off.
RedSidedSPR
08-23-2011, 06:18 PM
Well, $800 is $800... If you were willing to charge $500 for bird AND cage, $800 for both isn't bad... you could say "$800 for bird and all it's caging" or you could add to it. $950 for all... your choice. Anything under $1,000 isn't ripping anyone off, but anything under $500 is ripping YOU off.;)
kibakiba
08-23-2011, 06:24 PM
That is true. Now that my mom knows 800 is just for Willy, she wants to ask for more... That's just like her and the rest of her family (other than my great grand parents, the only sane people that were in the family.) I'll make sure to add that it's negotiable since... Yeah.
The snakies are definitely going to be stuffed if he does end up selling, I'll be able to order 300 mice and get a new computer... Haha... But I'm going to miss my little Willy. I just feel bad keeping him, knowing he's not getting the attention he deserves.
RedSidedSPR
08-23-2011, 06:34 PM

Well, we're putting an ad in the news paper, maybe craigslist.
Pet sales are prohibited on craigslist. You'll just get flagged and your ad removed. You'll have to use another venue.
With the economy the way it is, nobody wants to pay hundreds of dollars for an animal. Just like what has happened with desktop computers (prices have fallen to record lows) birds just don't go for much these days. Even snakes are pretty low this year. People just don't have money to spend. I think your mom is right to start at 500 and see what happens. It's likely you'll have to go even lower to get him to sell.
RedSidedSPR
08-23-2011, 07:20 PM
oh.. see? What do I know?:o
kibakiba
08-23-2011, 07:20 PM
Well, 800 and negotiable seems like a good way to start. I'm sure there is at least a small chance someone will take him. Besides, my computer is on its last days, so under 500 wont really do. Seems like a rip off, since my dad paid almost 500 for his cage alone.
d_virginiana
08-23-2011, 07:54 PM
Asking the higher price couldn't hurt, especially if the caging and supplies are in good condition.
On another note, did anyone else on the East coast feel that earthquake today?!
kibakiba

ConcinusMan
08-23-2011, 08:33 PM
You can't expect to get anywhere near what you paid. You sound like the people on craigslist that try to justify their (too) high asking price by saying "but I paid..." at some high priced pet store.
What you paid is irrelevant. Really. The only thing that really matters is how much other people are willing to pay you now and that usually isn't even half of what you paid.
I paid, in parts, around $1200 for my custom self- build computer and it wasn't long ago. Soon I'll be putting Windows 7 Ultimate on it and selling it. I'll consider myself lucky to get $350 out of it.
It's like this: If you're not willing to take the loss, then keep it. Because nobody is going to pay you anywhere near what you paid. That's just how it is. And as far as my computer goes, I don't consider it a loss at all. I got the use of it all this time. And all this time, you've been able to enjoy your bird. How can one expect to get that, and all that money back?
kibakiba
08-23-2011, 08:36 PM
I'm not saying I want everything I paid back. I never said anything like that, Richard. I was just saying, my dad paid nearly 500 for it, and it still goes for 300+, I'd expect at very least 50-100 for it. Technically, it's my choice what I want to ask for it, I don't really care what you think I'll get. We've made up our minds.
ConcinusMan
08-23-2011, 08:42 PM
$100 for a $500 bird cage is a reasonable expectation. Nothing unrealistic about that. All I was saying is that it would unrealistic to expect say $400 for it. As for the bird, the kind of price you're talking about there (that you paid) is what people pay for very young birds. As the months, or years go by, just like anything else, the older it gets, the less it's worth. On top of that, we have the economy to factor in, which drops the value of anything even further, if you want it to sell that is.
I've seen plenty of ads for valuable parrots that have been running for months and their asking price is a fraction of the birds original price. They're not moving. It's very hard to sell something like that these days. Not trying to discourage you. Just don't want you to get your expectations too high.
kibakiba
08-23-2011, 08:44 PM
I asked my dad what he paid for willy, who was only 6-12 months old, he only paid 200, while the adults were going for around 1200 at the place he bought him at.
ConcinusMan
08-23-2011, 08:44 PM
Whatever. The problem with adults is sometimes they are ruined and have bad habits or other unwanted behaviors and people know that and so usually want to buy the very young birds instead of an adult. Also, it's all but impossible to tell how old an adult is, whereas it's easy to see that a bird is very young.
kibakiba
08-23-2011, 08:47 PM
It's just what my dad told me, you don't have to believe it. I really don't care. You don't need to argue with everything I want to do. If I want to sell my macaw for 800 dollars, I will do so. It's not really any of your business. I mean, it's not like I'm trying to sell him to you.
ConcinusMan
08-23-2011, 08:53 PM
You're the one that brought it up. Just trying to help by telling you about things that need to be considered. I used to deal in exotic birds and thought that perhaps some of that knowledge might help you. But I can see you just want to get pissy about it so I'll shut up.
kibakiba
08-23-2011, 08:59 PM
Well everything is already done, and we cant afford to have the ad taken out and put back in, that's 50 dollars out of our pockets and that is a lot of money for us. I don't want to get pissy about it, but it's already done so I might as well let it go through and see if someone will take it as it is. We aren't as fortunate as you people with jobs, there aren't any opportunities where we can just make money or get a job. With no car, no bus fare for anything other than groceries, and no one to help, it doesn't work that way. That is why I probably seem like I have a stick up my butt.
ConcinusMan
08-23-2011, 09:08 PM
Well the ad is out and that's what is important. If the asking price is too high, people can always counter offer a lower price. That's a given, and you can decide based on how much interest there is from potential buyers, if you want to take less.
kibakiba
08-23-2011, 09:13 PM

Chantel, they say to get a tea bag wet, wring it out, and then gently bite down on it to hold it in place. It does seem to help. And if you're really hurting and the vicoden doesn't upset your stomach just go ahead and take it and follow with a nice nap. Often if I can get the pain to subside while sleeping I wake up pain free and feeling much better for a long while after... almost always longer than it would take for the meds to wear off. And now when you smile you look like a Jack-o-lantern? :p
I've only had one removed. A wisdom tooth so I know how it feels. Only one wisdom tooth came in on the bottom, the other never existed. Problem is, the one that did grow did so in a horizontal position below the gums and pointed forward. Overall the aftermath wasn't too bad. The worst part is over within 4-5 days, and that is the swelling. Once that goes down, the pain isn't too bad.
kibakiba
08-27-2011, 01:00 PM
I don't drink much. I'll drink with friends or with my mom. I only drink really light stuff.
They gave me some lipton lemon ice tea- teabags. Would those work? I actually gave my mom my mint tea when her tooth fell out and it was hurting. I was told that it only worked for broken teeth. I guess its technically the same thing.
The vicodin actually doesn't effect me. It hasn't even made me tired, and my dentist wants me to try to save it for tomorrow or the day after, when its supposed to get really bad. I also have to take penicillin, once my mom comes home with it... I hate taking a lot of meds.

No, it's not a different code.;) The code is permanent and universal. Doesn't matter how or where from you view your video, it always has the same code. Forever. And it's never just four letters. In fact, the first time you posted it, those four letters "mhsn" aren't even part of your video's actual code.
The I.D. code for that video is xZKv4FONy1Q
Always will be. No matter how you access the video, that string will be in the URL. The I.D. code always is between the "=" sign and the "&" sign, if present.
RedSidedSPR
08-29-2011, 07:18 AM

That's the wrong part. I should have been more clear. The video I.D. code starts after the first "=" sign and ends at, but doesn't include the "&" sign. That's where it always is, no matter what else is in the URL or where you access it from.
The part in red is your video I.D. code (the part you put between the youtube brackets in this forum)

OMG, I just realized what you are doing. The URL that has that in it, isn't the URL to a specific video, it's the URL of the web page that shows your entire video collection! In other words, when I view my video list, the URL says "http://www.youtube.com/my_videos?feature=mhee"
Then if I click to play a specific video, it gives me the URL to it, which includes the unique code to embed that specific video and it looks something like this: "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Pun8hwUJnM"
You have to click and play a specific video to get the URL I'm talking about. Try it and you'll see what I mean. YOu can't embed your list of videos since it is not a video. It's just a list!

It's that time of year again. The Pacific Northwest is burning. New fire today in Klickitat Co. WA and many new ones all over Oregon due to dry lightning. Just one fire in the Oregon Cascades has already burned more than 28,000 acres and growing. Only 5% contained, which is essentially nothing. The wet spring/early summer (lots of grass grew) combined with now completely dry conditions (no measurable rain in about 7 weeks along with hot temps) is bad. Now we're getting just enough change in the weather to produce lots of lightning, but almost no rain. Not good.
These are just the large fires that have been burning for days. A bunch of new ones started today after this map was updated. Like I said, a doozy is burning east of me (next county to the east from Clark Co. WA) that just started a couple of hours ago. This is just the beginning of it. It's going to get much worse and go on for weeks.

Quite a grey day on the west side. Some of it is clouds, but much of the reason for the filtered sunlight or lack of any sun is smoke. Can't smell it as it is fairly high altitude, but it is quite hazy, blocking out a lot of sunlight.
Not quite as scary San Diego though. A year after I moved back to WA from San Diego, the entire neighborhood I lived in down there, burned to the ground. Nothing left.

So far the fires burning in the northwest aren't threatening any significant areas of settlement, but yes, there's people living out there and there have been evacuations and highway closures. Nothing like San Diego though. The fires may start in somewhat rural areas but fire season there always comes during the "Santa Anna winds". A weather phenomenon in which the wind changes from gentle onshore flow, to offshore hot air from the desert, low humidity and high winds. So what happens is, the fires burn spreading toward the coast. Well, the city of San Diego stands between the fires and the ocean so even if the fires start naturally far east of town, it heads straight for the city. The photo was taken from the very same spot where I watched Halley's comet pass by earth in 1986. Once in a generation event. It isn't due again until July 2061 but they don't think it's coming back ever again. It broke up leaving the solar system.

The fires in 2007 didn't get my old neighborhood again, (it was close though) but like I said, where I lived burned down right after a I moved away in 1987 and was entirely redesigned and rebuilt after that. The streets aren't even the same anymore.

(what the heck is the dot?!?)
The black dot is the very center of the shadow. The closer you are to that black dot, the closer you are to a complete and total black out of the sun. Anywhere else, like close to the edges of the shadow, it won't completely block out the sun. At it's peak there will still be a slight sliver of sun left near the outer edges of the shadow.
Maybe twice in a lifetime for you too Jesse. Next one is August 2045. In order to see it for a third time in my life, I will have to make to 75 years old. Not out of the question. 3 times. Beat that! All you need to catch up is one Halley's comet and multiple volcanic eruptions in North America and you will be all caught up to me. Almost.:D

Haven't you heard?, the world is ending Dec. 21, 2012 :D
What an absurd myth. What most people do not realize is that the date is not the end of the Myan calendar. It's merely the end of their long-count cycle. Their calandar is a celestial calandar which is much more accurate than any other known calandar. Dec 21, 2012 is merely the end of a long count cycle and the day that our solar system is lined up perfectly with the center of the galaxy. A new long count cycle starts after that. Just think of it like you would the end of a millennium on our calandar.
There is scientific speculation however, that the galactic alignment will put gravitational forces on our planet that it hasn't been subjected to since the last alignment. This could cause a slip or shift of the poles (which aren't really stationary in the first place) causing massive earthquakes, weather events, climate change, continental shifts, etc., and accelerate the current mass extinction already underway.
But that wouldn't be the end of the world. It would just be the tipping point for massive change.

They said the same thing back in 1984 concerning the planetary alignment. Nothing much happened then.
When I was in Chichen Itza back in the winter, our Mayan tour guide explained that Mayans basically do the same thing we do when our calendar ends: flip it back to the beginning and start over.

One of my highschool science teachers loved the pole-switching phenomenon (it's happened several times in the past), so I learned a lot about it back in the day. Likely that alignment will go unnoticed, but there's a very minute chance it could cause major problems... Like so minute that no scientists are really worrying about it.
Sort of like how there's technically a non-zero possibility that you can walk through a wall, but the likelihood of all the atoms in both you and the wall lining up correctly and staying long enough to pass through each other is pretty much zilch.

One of my highschool science teachers loved the pole-switching phenomenon (it's happened several times in the past)
Most people think the position of the poles, (the earth's axis line) moves but it doesn't. It stays pretty much stationary except for the slight wobble it has. What really happens is, the axis stays put and the outer crust of the earth, slips over the molten core. Maybe if rephrase again, Stefan will know what I really mean. And that is, scientist say that there is a real possibility of gravitational forces exerted on the crust from the alignment could cause the crust to slip suddenly in relation to the molten core causing a catastrophic polar shift and even a major change in the day length and wobble of the earth.
Bible prophecy eludes to "stars falling from the sky". That's what it would look like if this slip occured suddenly. Then there would be "a new heaven" (stars positions in the sky) and a "new earth" (drastic changes in the shape and position of the continents)

I just learned that if you're in Ireland and you're an American that asks a local where young people go for fun, an old lady might just say "head over to the pubs, you'll find a lot of crack there"
Whoa, granny, I don't know what you do for fun, but I don't smoke crack.
Apparently, by "crack" she means fun, comedy, or entertainment. Well, in America, there might be a lot of crack in a neighborhood, but it's only fun for a certain group of people. :p
Now that I think about it, Americans say "wise crack" which means a sarcastic joke. Makes sense.
Here in America "pissed" means "extremely angry". In English speaking Europe, "pissed" means very drunk.
Funny how we're essentially speaking the same language, and yet, cultural differences make for some gross misunderstandings.:D
Maybe that's why Stefan and I sometimes clash. He just isn't speaking the same language? OK, maybe not. That's a stretch.:D

Since most HDTV sets have a 15 pin PC connector & most new video cards have HDMI, Our household has already integrated the PC & Entertainment.
I still prefer the flexibility of a custom desktop though, and this arrangement offers the best of both.
Stefan-A
08-31-2011, 08:06 AM
And with smart TV's, there is even speculation that the desktop will become a thing of the past.
They're wrong. What will happen, is that desktops will become a lot less popular, as more and more people start getting the sort of computers that actually fit their needs. Most people don't need more than laptops, or tablets.
But those who actually need to do "heavy lifting", will for the most part still need desktops.
RedSidedSPR
08-31-2011, 08:09 AM
Then there's gaming. Lots get desktops for it, lots sell desktops for it. Getting a ps3 or xbox... But IMO PC gaming owns console gaming. It's just... better. And a lot of people agree.

Richard. Go to "home" or "unread posts" (if there are any) and to the right it will say the username of the last post. Right next to that is a little green arrow that brings you to that post. Same thing with the paper clips that mean you're subscribed to that thread. They're replaced with a bunch of words saying "you are subscribed to this thread" (other screenshot)........

I love keyboards and mice for games. Heck if I could play old console games (psx, super nintendo, sega, etc) on my pc, I'd be very happy. Couches her my behind, and they also hurt my back, having good posture in my chair is perfect for me... And there is a bathroom tight behind me, so I can just play games all day and be super happy. :D

Then that's you. Your inability to work you fingers doesn't mean a controller sucks...
How is a controller harder than a keyboards vast layout?
kibakiba
08-31-2011, 09:24 AM
Because, controllers have buttons in awkward places and they're shaped in such demented ways. It's not an inability to work my fingers, I do that quite easily with the keyboard. I've always had a computer (well, since I was 8) so I guess having all the buttons at my disposal is just natural to me.
RedSidedSPR
08-31-2011, 09:28 AM

They have a thousand buttons and they're shaped in a way that only allows you to use 4/10 fingers and placed on the controller so that you can only hit one at a time. My mouse is better designed in that regard, than any console controller. I can operate 5 buttons at the same time with just my right hand.

I already said what it is. when you're on the tab or page you want to refresh (best just done with only one tab open) hold down the CTRL key while pressing F5 and wait for the page to reload. Parts of a web page (such as images and graphics) are cached on your hard drive for faster loading. What that does is make sure that the cached parts are re-downloaded from the server and replaced in your cache.
