living at my parents house was pretty scary for me and my sister, my parents never believed us. It happened always upstairs by the bathroom door and the room directly across from the bathroom. We both felt like we were always being watched since my room was to the side of the bathroom, my sisters was across. She usually kept her door open some and some nights she felt something breathing on her neck which usually made her scream. The watching felt like it came from the bathroom door or the far corner of my sisters room. When I was in my room the only things that happened were the watching but we always heard every night just a little bit after my parents went to bed, heard the sound of a plastic cup being put down on the counter, always heard the hollow "dook" sound.
As we were getting older the stuff that was happening was happening more towards me than my sister. When my sister got more serious with her boyfriend (who is now my brother in law) and started spending some nights at my parents and even he was saying some pretty weird stuff was happening. He too felt the breathing, but it was nothing compared to what I was in store for when my sister moved out, I took her room because it was bigger. My parents cat usually spent the night sleeping on my bed, sometimes I woke up to him growling and looking at the same corner the watching always came from.
My parents went camping EVERY weekend, and my dad was like son, you can't stay home until you have your own car, so just before my 17th birthday I bought myself one of these http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/Gallery%20%20A/Yamaha%20XS750S%2078.jpg it made my dad proud that my first way of transportation was a motorcycle. I was big into inline speed skating with the team every saturday and usually liked playing my computergame, Everquest. But then things were getting more strange being alone at the house..
At times I would hear the door knob right behind me slowly being turned, a couple times I did see it being turned, also there were times where the door would swing wide open about a foot which made me frightened because this 'thing' was getting more aggressive. The window blinds would twitch once in a while, my parents cat was out at the lake on weekends, the paces where I felt like I was being watched was moving around the room. There would be a shallow imprint at times on my bed like someone was sitting on it. When I was in bed trying to sleep, I now could feel the breathing, heard the door knob slowly turning (it was a old door with a noisy knob) my parents door would sometimes SLAM shut. I would hear more whispers but couldn't make out what they sounded like. In the middle of the night I would wake up after my body hit the wall. There was only a handful of times where I would come home and my dresser was tipped over. Once I was comming home from a party on a saturday between 2-3am and something made me look to my room window and I seen the blinds move, like someone had their finger in the blinds and pulled them down a bit so you can see through and let go, I spent the night in my car that night.
Thats pretty much all what would happen at my parents, when I moved out, it was a world of a difference, sleeping, just every day life. Felt like the weight was taken off my shoulders. Didn't feel like being watched anymore, I don't have nightmares, don't feel the breathing or strange noises, my door doesn't open by itself, everything was peaceful. The house I live in now is duplex across the back lane from my parents, I live in the upstairs part and whenever I go into the sunporch I am always compelled to look at my parents bedroom window.
My parents NEVER believed me or my sister.

I don´t know if that is so much paranormal, but my exgirlfriend told me this story and she sweared that it really happened.
Her sister is a maniac in nature photography and stuff, so this year, in the spring(most usually in april in my country) she wanted to take some pictures of the nature awakening after the winter, so she travelled to a national park in the mountains on the Czech/German border, which is not far from where I live. She left by train early in the morning, intending to spent all the weekend up in the mountains, taking pictures of nature. She spent all day long taking the pictures, and in the evening, she build a tent on a small meadow deep in the forest. She went to sleep and slept well, untill the morning. When she woke up, she at first grabbed the camera to take a look at all the pictures she did the previous day. There were four more pictures of her, sleeping quietly in the tent, with time of taking about 3:15 AM.
My ex said that she saw the pictures, but her sister deleted them soon after showing them to her, pretending that it actually never happened, as she was frightened as hell, and had nightmares for a long time after.
WHO the hell photographed the girl sleeping in the forest, in middle of nowhere? Maybe not paranormal at all, but creepy as hell.

Just a little praise to my son Kale.
Yesterday he received his drivering learners permit(He's almost 15) I was proud of that but......
Today I took him out for his first lesson. We have a large vacant parking lot close by. It's a great place for him to get a feel for the vehicle he will be learning in.
He's learning in a 1 ton 15 passenger Ford van. We've named it "Das Boot"
After about 10 minutes in the lot I could see he adjusted to the throttle and brakes without any difficulty. We then hit the public streets and even the interstate. Kale showed great confidence and maturity while driving.
I'm a blessed Dad to have kids that believe in themselves and their abilities. Not a "cocky" "I'm better then everyone" attitude but a self confidence that is years above their ages.
Looking forward to watching and assisting my son as he travels to adulthood.
I've said it many times but must say it again.
If I could have written down all the things I wanted in a son before he was born I would have still ended my with Kale.
He's everything I've ever wanted in a Son.

Big Kudos to Kale! Sometime in the next month or so I'll be teaching my second to drive. Hubby lets him drive his jeep offroad already so he has a decent feel for the basics. It'll be lucky me that gets to proof him on the city streets. I did most of the instruction with my older son, too. Slightly hairy every once in a while, but overall a great experience. Have fun with Kale, Steve!

You know how people like to call garter snakes "garden snakes"? Well, it turns out there is an honest to goodness garden snake. Here it is:

Yep. Those have been around for a while. Unfortunately, they aren't very effective. Birds and other animals see the thing, think it's a real snake, but always have to check it out. If it doesn't move or react to "fly-by-pecking" it takes less that a week before they figure out that this "troll" is just a lawn ornament.
The owls and hawks that this company makes are much better, particularly if you move them to a new perch every few days. Even then, it doesn't do any good if there are no honest to goodness real hawks and owls around to enforce an environment of fear.

I use those plastic snake to keep birds from nesting in certain areas of my property.
I don't use many as we enjoy the birds. Especially the English/House Sparrows(Passer domesticus).
Had a few as pets over the years. We had one that we would let out in the morning. During the day you could go outside and call her. She'd fly down to your hand. At night she would come in the house to sleep.

Anyway guys, I guess I can explain and take some of the mystery out of what's going on and why I'm selling my snakes. Sale is pending on my share of this house to my brother who already owns half. I'm going to take the 80 grand and run, lol. No, I've just gotten into some debt that needs to be taken care of. After that, I'm moving to CA (near Modesto) I'll be driving a u-haul and I didn't want to put the snakes through that.
I'll still be on the forum from time to time, and maybe next year I'll make some trips to to the CA coast for red sideds, coast garters, atratus, etc. and get back into the hobby then.:)

Thanks. I appreciate the kind words.
I just killed (regrettably) the largest "fiddler" (Brown Recluse) spider I've ever seen in my life. I would like to have captured it alive, but as dangerous as they are, and as fast as it was moving, it was kill it or let it get away alive in my house.
The legs must have at least covered the span of an American Dollar coin. When I squashed it, I could hear the exoskeleton "crunching" My God, it was one heck of a spider.
I would much preferred to capture it alive and release it far away after taking pics, but it was just moving too fast. Couldn't take the chance of it getting away and biting someone in the household. A bite from that spider could easily kill one of my dogs.

I remember being at the transit lodge near otter falls, MB. A place where I seen the LARGEST wolf spiders I have seen in my life. As scared of spiders as I am, this brings it to a whole new level.
I always went on critter hunts my whole life but this area is pretty rocky. I was walking down the driveway along railroad ties used as a driveway lane and I seen a big garter flee to between the ties, so I get on my stomach and look into this area where the snake went into, well holy damn there was this massive wolf spider looking like it was ready to run after me, so I scream like a girl and run away as fast as I could.
Another time I was brushing a twig between rocks by the water and I caused a wolf spider, the largest one I have ever seen 5-6 inch leg span dart up the rock surface right in front of me, I got so scared I again screamed like a little girl and ran away as fast as I could crying.
Saw a snake flee to under a rock.. lift the rock, spider.. you know what happened next.
This was at the same place where I caught the monster garter that I swear must have been between 5 and 6 feet long.
As much as giant spiders made me scream and cry there, I really did enjoy that place. I was probably 10 or 11 when we last visited that place and started going to Stephenfield Provincial Park

This sucker had a very distinct "fiddle" or "violin" shaped mark on it's carapace. Although it was a male and generally less aggressive and delivers less venom than a female, these are still the most dangerous spider in the Pacific Northwest. They cause very nasty necrosis and MRSA infections which usually require hospitalization. I know that first hand. I spent several days in the hospital after receiving a bite from one of these and I have a nasty scar as souvenir.

We get a ton of spiders that make a serious crunch when you squish them. I never look at them after they've been killed... I let my dog play with them. If you pull the wings off of giant blo flies, she'll actually attack them and "protect" us. She will try pushing you away from it if it comes near you while she's herding it away and attacking it. My good camera takes incredible photos, and it's all stock. I just use my iphone a lot because it's faster, I can take the photo and upload it right to photobucket with one touch as opposed to taking photos with the camera, transferring them to the computer, etc etc!
aSnakeLovinBabe
08-14-2011, 04:51 PM
And Megapixels is not something you worry about, you can have a camera that takes 12 megapixel photos, but if the photo quality is not that great, it doesn't matter. Companies often use X amount of megapixels to draw customers in, making them think they are getting a top notch camera at a great price merely because it takes big megapixel photos.

08-14-2011, 04:53 PM
Yeah, I do that too, with facebook. When it comes to the snakes though, they move so fast, I use the fast shutter speed (1000). I like to adjust the exposure after I upload them to my computer, it gets a truer sense of their color in the photo.

The recession in the US has hit everybody really hard...
people are getting pre-declined credit cards in the mail
CEO's are now playing miniature golf.
If the bank returns your check marked "Insufficient Funds," you call them and ask if they meant you or them.
McDonald's is selling the 1/4 ouncer.
Angelina Jolie adopted a child from America .
Parents in Beverly Hills fired their nannies and learned their children's names.
a New York'er had an exorcism but couldn't afford to pay for it, and they re-possessed her!
A truckload of Americans was caught sneaking into Mexico .
A picture is now only worth 200 words.
it's rumored that When Bill and Hillary travel together, they now have to share a room.
The Treasure Island casino in Las Vegas is now managed by Somali pirates.
And, finally back here in Britain
I was so depressed last night thinking about the economy, wars, jobs, my savings, Social Security, retirement funds, etc., I called the Suicide Hotline. I didn't know that it was recently moved to a call center in Pakistan , and when I told them I was suicidal, they got all excited, and asked if I could drive a truck.

Funny... :p
What's also funny is, I got declined for a credit card meant to help raise my credit, it has a 100 dollar limit (and only to be used for emergencies). I had called them before hand and asked if it would be right for me, and if I had a chance of being declined, despite it being for those without any credit, or bad credit... They said no, and the day after I applied, declined! Haha. I had this awesome plan to use it at the end of the month when we have no food, so we can buy food at the end of the month and pay it off at the beginning of the month... My mom can't get a credit card due to having almost every credit card possible, and never paying the bills she racked up.

Haha, she did it for me when I was younger. It was the only way she could afford school supplies and school clothes for me. She never told me she did that, but now that I'm an adult and I know more about the money we receive, it wouldn't have been enough to pay for rent, bills, food and school things. I do appreciate that she literally racked up thousands of dollars of debt, just to benefit my life... Though I do feel bad that she can't do a lot of things because of that debt that I unknowingly caused.

Indeed it was! I had my doors open and my fan on the max. I put my poor frogs in the bathroom so they wouldn't overheat.

It's very scary. I've had to deal with breathing issues since I was a baby. I've been in hospital for it a couple times. I guess I'm used to it now. I always have my inhaler with me, and prednisone and medicine for my nebulizer at home.
kibakiba
08-20-2011, 10:37 PM
I had to take prednisone for an allergic reaction from scotchbroom... It made me gain 20 pounds in the one week that I took it! I hate it when meds do that. It is really great that you're prepared for it, just in case.
katach
08-20-2011, 10:40 PM
Yeah. I hate having to take it. I usually wait until it gets really bad before I breakdown and take it. When I was first diagnosed with my autoimmune disorder they wanted me to take a really high dose for a long time, but I told them NO WAY! There were better options for me. Thank goodness my doctor respected my decision.

Yeah, I wish I had a doctor like that. I like natural remedies and the like. She believes that chemicals are the only way to go when it comes to problems.

I have to be so careful about everything I take. Some much is metabolized through the liver. I have to check with my doctor even if I want to take a vitamin. It sucks!
kibakiba
08-20-2011, 10:56 PM
I can imagine! I have to be careful about starting new meds because my stomach always ends up trying to digest itself when I take something new. Or it seems that way... Every new pill I try for ADD or depression, my stomach ends up getting really inflamed, and I cant take my usual painkiller with most other meds... I had to quit everything.

I'm sorry. That sucks! Have you been checked out for stomach problems?
kibakiba
08-20-2011, 11:13 PM
Yeah, they said its just gastritis and that it just seems to happen when I take medication, and that it's just a coincidence. They haven't done any actual testing, though. My doctor is far too busy to refer me to a gastro person.

I like the sound of the crickets. Mine aren't around long enough though to breed:D My froggies gobble them up pretty quickly.
kibakiba
08-21-2011, 03:15 AM
Yeah, my adults are just for breeding. My frogs would probably get eaten by the adult crickets! They eat the pinheads produced, though.
The pet shop kept them with no protein food, and they preyed on each other... So, my males either have very beat up wings, or 4-5 legs. I feel bad for all the crickets there. I have them on high protein food and they get lots of fruity treats. They may just be a food producer for my frogs, but they are an addition to the family anyways, so I might as well give them a good life while they are alive.

Got to 96 in Vancouver yesterday. For some reason, it didn't seem that hot to me. Before that, it had yet to even reach 90 this summer in SW WA.

I sure can. I was born in Bakersfield, CA and spent time there in the summer. It gets to be like a ghost town during the hottest part of the day when you have lows around 85, it's 110 by noon, and 114-116 by dinner time. And it goes on for several months like that.
107 is the record for Vancouver, WA. 108 for the Portland area. It's never been hotter since they've been keeping records. Old record was broken just a couple of years ago.

Hasn't rained here in about 6 weeks. However, it just wouldn't stop raining before that. Rained from early fall to nearly the end of July.
"It's a dry heat" Yes it's true folks. Very low humidity (dry heat) doesn't seem nearly as hot due to the fast rate of evaporation. If it's 100 degrees in western WA, it's so miserable it feels like you're going to die. You're surrounded by greenery and all of it is putting out water vapor.
In the desert climate of Bakersfield, CA, 100 degrees (and around 30% humidity) is very tolerable if you stay out of the sun.

Changing the subject... this has nothing to do with the weather or any of the recent subjects above, just a general observation/complaint that has been bugging me and seems to have escalated over the weekend for some reason...
What is up with all of the bickering lately? Good God, not everyone has to be RIGHT about every subject! There are multiple ways to do most things and most of those ways are FINE as long as the person/animal in question is happy and healthy.
I try to be positive and helpful, but do feel this needed to be said. Sorry if I've offended anyone as it's not directed at any one person.

I think it's quite common for peopel to just get set in there ways. Especially if they've been doing it over a long period of time and haven't experienced any issues.. they don't really understand why anyone would disregaurd their advice and do something else. I get like that too sometimes lol.. Every once in a while my mom will come by to feed or water my snakes while I'm away and I get so upset if she decides to do something differently than I normally would. Like putting the mouse into the feeding bin after she puts the snake in instead of before -__- I really should learn not to care but I feel like I'm right sometimes XD
Anyway, those people on here who have been raising garters for years and years probably just don't understand why someone would even try to argure when they have proof that their way works... but the trust is that everyone is different and everyone does things differently and I think a lot of the time many different ways of doing something can end in basically the same results

Yes, but even if you are correct, yelling & screaming at mom is a surefire way to lose a pet sitter... and we all know those are tough to find! A more gentle approach explaining why you do it the way you do and why you think it works well would go further in encouraging mom to do it the way you think is correct without offending her, making her feel defensive, or turning her off completely and there goes your pet sitter - oopps!
Anyway, those people on here who have been raising garters for years and years probably just don't understand why someone would even try to argure when they have proof that their way works...
Hmmm... sadly I see this more from newbies to the forum, but some old timers are guilty of jumping in the middle of the squabbling from time to time as well. I'm guilty as well as I've bit the bait a few times... this post and the one before it could be examples, I guess.

This is exactly what I was getting at, though. Thank you for understanding where I was coming from. There's way more grey in the world than either black or white.

Oh yes I agree! XD I know I need to shut up and be happy my mom is even willing to look at a dead mouse for me. But my personality wants me to get all worked up lol
I'm guilty of a lot of things... including getting defensive about silling things (: Thats when I just need to strep back and take a breather
No one is perfect but we all try our darnest.. well some of us do. If we're talking specifically about snakes, then I'm happy as long as they are cared for and living happy healthy lives!

My crickets are dying mysteriously. About 7 of my adults died in the past 2 days, and one of them was running around munching on the other, and then it chewed its legs off.. So I decided to kill it and throw it in the toilet and a horse hair worm or something came out of it. That is freaking disgusting. I'm never buying crickets from Bridges pets ever again. I can not believe that I just saw that happen.
