It's priest. Have a little priest.
TODD:
Is it really good?

Sir, it's too good, at least!
Then again, they don't commit sins of the flesh,
So it's pretty fresh.

Awful lot of fat.

Haven't you got poet, or something like that?

No, y'see, the trouble with poet is
'Ow do you know it's deceased?
Try the priest!

TODD: (spoken) Heavenly!
Not as hearty as bishop, perhaps,
but then again, not as bland as curate, either!

Trouble is, we only get it on Sundays!

First off, don't try to circumvent the filter, it's there for a reason.

Second, "retatrded" is not a word. :p While I'm ranting about symbols, and this has nothing to do with you, the symbol "&" is not "and", it's "et". ;)

After a look of complete confusion she answered . . .'Why, not for about twenty years - when my husband was still alive.'

At the beginning of my shift, I placed a stethoscope on an elderly and slightly deaf female patient's anterior chest wall. 'Big breaths,' I instructed.

'Yes, they used to be,'. . . replied the patient.

I won't be on the forum for most of next week. I know you'll all miss me very much. By monday evening, I will be here:

Nevada High Desert. Actual location where I will be.
http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/5748/unled222h.jpg

Near Pyramid Lake, Washoe County Nevada. (Reno/Sparks area) I'll be staying a few days and while I'm there, I'm going to do some road cruising around sundown/dawn for Great Basin Rattlesnakes. I hope I find some!

I've been here before but never saw a single herp except road kill. But then again, I've only been out here at the wrong times of the day when it was blazing hot. There are no lizards to speak of, a few gopher snakes, and rattlesnakes are plentiful. The only way to find any is around sundown. It cools off fast here so the snakes come out on the roads to stay warm. It can be 90 degrees all day but within a couple of hours after sundown, the temperature can plummet to around freezing. One thing is for sure, no matter how hot it is, don't get caught out here after dark wearing nothing but a tee shirt. You'll freeze you butt off.

Hey all, me and my girlfriend are planing some state side travel plans, I have to go to Port Huron, Michigan for new tires for my car, but we plan on staying a whole weekend doing some shopping and maybe some sight seeing, I'm wanting to do some pet store looking and maybe shopping... maybe, but I'm thinking that's on the low side because I've been limited to one snake purchase this year and I kind of already have my sights on one. But if anyone could tell me things to do and shopping. Mostly sticking to Michigan but if there's an attraction around the bordering States it might bring us there. So things like pet stores, shopping plaza's (Were already planing on going to Birch Run) and anything else anyone could come up with.
Thanks all.

I assume you know enough to avoid the "no go" sections of Detroit right?

I had a Swiss cousin that visited a couple of years back, he was going to spend the whole year backpacking around the US and did not tell anyone discovering inner city Detroit was on his agenda.

Fortunately as he was hiking into the outskirts of the city some guy mowing his lawn asked him what in the heck he was doing, and when he heard my cousin's insane plan he put him in his car and drove him to the other side of town with a stern warning.

Hopefully Canadians are a bit more aware of the US crime problem than the Swiss, but just in case!

I'm pretty sure that those are a member of the Coprinopsis family. Not sure about the species though. If that I.D. is correct, they are edible when young. They taste a bit like nuts. They aren't really worth eating IMO unless you find one called "shaggy mane" (Coprinus comatus). Those are much larger and taste like prime rib!

If you eat any member of this family, do not consume alcohol within 24 hours or so. They contain a chemical that prevents you from metabolizing alcohol so you will get very sick if you do so. "Antibuse" (a drug used to treat alcoholism) is made from these mushrooms.

Just be aware that if you're planning on bringing any reptiles back you will need to have a US Import/Export license (since you are now the exporter according to the US), arrange and pay for the US Fish & Wildlife inspection and have the 3-177 paperwork complete (you need 48 hours min notice for the inspection btw) and then on the Canadian side will need to also pay any taxes on the declared value which you will need an invoice for.

That's just for non-CITES animals.

Spankenstyne
05-26-2011, 11:05 AM
Max punishment (as relayed by someone stateside) for failing to do so includes: up to 20 years time, full seizure of the animals (possibly also your house and/or assets of value), and a fine of $500 up to $5,000 per animal.

They've also really been cracking down on this in recent years compared to before, I'm told they used to be pretty slack about the 3-177 and inspections but not any more.

Tips for Tourists When Visiting Detroit

Who in Hell was your travel agent? AAA doesn't even stock Detroit maps anymore. Stay away from here.
Detroit's city income tax applies to visitors. Stay north of 8 mile. There's plenty of blight in the suburbs to see too.
Don't give in to temptation and buy a dozen or so of those $1 homes. They are not worth it. Take your family to McDonalds for lunch instead.
Always carry a gun with you at all times
Make it 2 guns
Never leave your hotel without your guns as well as your luggage (Some crook will steal your luggage trust me)
Always carry plenty of ammo & mags
If I were you I would carry Glocks
ALWAYS remember the third tip
Keep the safety off at all times (Trust me crime lurks around every street corner)
Before you cap your first criminal always say a cool line before you shoot him, like "You feelin lucky punk?" or "Hasta LaVista baby" ( NOTE: you sometimes might want shoot them right then and now before they draw their weapon)
Make sure your firearm packs a powerful punch because what's the fun if it didn't
Always put your hands up for Detroit, otherwise the police will brainwash you with this song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Puw2bahu7wQ)
Always remember that bullets solve crimes way faster than courts ever will
When your near a drive by never confront the car unless you know what type of weapons the occupants are using and unless you have the guts to fight them anyway
A Soviet RPG 7V (http://uncyclopedia.wikia.com/index.php?title=RPG_7V&action=edit&redlink=1) is always a sure victory when confronting crimals doing a drive by (NOTE: This weapon is not only hard to come by but really is not practical unless you want it to be)
Remember that killing crime does not only save your life and reduce crime a little, but helps out the Detroit police
Always remember that Axel Foley has got your back (though depending on what area of Detroit your in) (Like come on he can't be everywhere at once, could he?)
Every bullet is your baby, so make each shot count
Be creative with your kills
Have fun, but be on your best guard while doing it
ALWAYS remember that your killing criminals not people right? Of couse I'm right because why the hell would I have given this tip?

LOL so true and so sad! Actually some European photographers were recently doing sort of an "archeological" study of Detroit. Photographing the ruins of the beautiful hotels, restaurants, the georgious mansions owned by the premiere millionaires of the time. It was quite the place and very very elegant.

Within a few decades a world class city was reduced to decay and wilderness.

Sylvia Mythen, a 70-year-old grandmother from Venice, Fl, has discovered what appears to be the world's first orange alligator. She was returning from work when she drove by the gator and promptly had to back up for a double-take. After sending the picture to her local news station she also contacted a biologist who believes the gator is really just half-albino. He says he has never seen or heard of one. But Gary Morse from Florida Fish and Wildlife feels the orange color might be from some environmental element. Regardless, the University of Florida Gators might have a new mascot.

Look at this strange animal! Yes, that is a purple polar bear believe it or not! This usually white polar bear created quite the buzz about the Mendoza City Zoo in Argentina when it unexpectedly turned purple. It seems that the polar bear named Pelusa had a skin condition that the zoo officials were trying to treat, and as a result of the special treatment of this condition the polar bear turned purple. The purple color only lasted for a little while, but it was quite the talk of the town and spread across the world news and internet like wildfire.

The lizard in the photo is not being manipulated (not a photo manipulation). It is now the latest exotic pet craze. Mwanza flat-headed agama's vivid blue-and-red colouring, is a lizard that has a body skin colour similar to Spiderman. Agamas, which are native to Kenya can be good pets, as they become tame and docile if handled regularly.

It can grow up to a foot long, and a balanced diet for them includes locusts, crickets, meal worms and wax worms. They are unable to throw webs, but can change colour – the brightly coloured males will change brown at night or if frightened. They can also run on their hind legs, and can scale vertical walls like spiders.

Yeah, I had H plyori or whatever, when I was a kid. My doctor said it was just "schoolitis" for 3 years until she found out i had that and then proceeded to tell me it was my fault that she never found out. The oddest and probably funniest part about it is she said if i didn't get it treated soon, it would continually eat away at my stomach until it finally killed me. It wasn't funny when I was 8, but I can see how stupid it was. I think she put unneeded stress on me as an 8 year old. She could have said to take the magical pills once a day and I'd be all better!

That's a bacteria, not a worm.;) Eats away the lining of your stomach, removing your protection from stomach acid. Once the protective lining is gone, you literally digest your own stomach. Loads of fun!

She told me it was a parasite and showed me a picture of a worm-like thing. I kind of never trust doctors though. Here in my area they could give you poison that makes you really sick and there is nothing wrong with it.

ConcinusMan
06-10-2011, 09:05 PM
It very well could be you had both (which is very common) and so you got confused as to which is which. Even though the plyori is a bacteria, the tests to find it also usually reveal worms too if you have them. Ironically enough, one of the same medications (Metronidazole, also known as Flagyl) for getting rid of plyori also gets rid of worms and other types of parasites and is commonly used for reptiles too.

Oh Wow! check this out. Police find 1,600 marijuana plants growing in Vancouver home | The Columbian (http://www.columbian.com/news/2011/jun/10/police-1600-marijuana-plants-growing-vancouver/)

Busts like this used to be commonplace around here during the 1980's but grow operations and weed trafficking took a back seat to meth by 1990. In other words, my neighborhood hasn't seen the likes of this in nearly 25 years. Apparently, since Washington legalized medical marijuana in 2001, illegal grow operations have been on the increase. This is a huge whole-house operation.

And my opinion is not just because I'm pot head or anything like that. I rarely touch the stuff these days and I think if another person wants to smoke that stuff every day, then he should have that choice. Just sick of seeing law enforcement spending so much money on enforcement, just to put "grandma" or a guy growing his own supply in prison, when they could be going after real criminals while enjoying tax revenue by making it legal.

Oops, I edited after you quoted me, but not to change the meaning of what I said. Yeah, why don't you just point out that I smoke weed. What do you want, a confession?:p

Just saying, I have a family member who's wife is a card holder. Every now and then, they unintentionally overproduce (a few grams beyond what they can legally possess) and offer me a little bit. Sometimes, I accept. No biggie. I can take it or leave it, but sometimes I take it unless I'm going to driving or taking UA's anytime soon. That's all I'm saying. I'm not ashamed of it.

Anyway you look at it, they don't sell the excess, they give it away. They are law abiding citizens. And at the same time, I'm not putting any money in the hands of thugs when I get my weed. No harm, no foul, I say!:D

Wayne (Infernalis) is the administrator of another forum, in case you didn't already know that. A darn fine and under appreciated forum if I do say so myself. You know what's funny to me about that roll-back sign? It's that I occasionally go to Wal-Mart and see that they've raised the price on something, but they'll still have that roll-back sign up, claiming that they actually lowered it.

I went to buy a case of Cokes once. The day before, they were $5.99. They raised the price on them to $6.99, and had the nerve to put up a roll-back sign claiming, "Was $7.99". Come on, Wal-mart! You're not fooling anyone but yourself. (I went on a Coke boycott until the price came back down to $5.99).

Would it be rude to tell someone off for being a jerk, when it's their job to pick up people from medical appointments? I was in the waiting room of my therapist's office waiting for my driver and he was 30 minutes late. When he finally came and got me, he told me that I should have been waiting outside, where it was rainy and very windy. He also slammed the door on my leg. I didn't want to be rude, so I kept my mouth shut... But I feel like reporting him in case he were to do something like that to someone who's severely disabled... My mom thinks I'm overreacting, what do you guys think I should do?

kibakiba

Well there are two ways that can go... He could be having a bad day, and if I called and complained, it would make him lose his job and make his day worse... Or he's just an all-round jerk and is rude, and deserves to lose his job. That's why it's hard. He was nice to the other man we picked up in the wheelchair, but not to me.

guidofatherof5
07-07-2011, 05:45 PM
You could always wait and see if he's rude to you again.
If he's not than maybe it was a bad day.
If he is rude again than complain.
If you wait, than write down the day and time of the first incident so it's fresh in your mind when you do call in.

kibakiba

Well, hopelink uses many different medical transportation services, so I could get him next week, or I could get someone I don't know. I do seem to get put with many of the same people, especially since my appointments are at the same time and day. I get different people when my appointments change. I do have his name and the vehicle number written down, along with my id code that they used, just in case.

drache

rude people suck

I just read this morning that the US 1st amendment protects the depiction of violence in all it's gory detail, but not the depiction of a naked breast
if whatever people look at does influence their behaviours, I'd rather have the teenagers rutting in the streets than chopping each other's limbs off and killing one another - but that's just me, and I should probably be dismembered to death for my loose morals

so are we surprised people are rude? I'd think many would be more polite if they were encouraged to charm the clothes off one another, rather than to do the worst they can for points

and yes - I've been told I'm peculiar, even by people who knew nothing about my reptiles

RicMartin
07-08-2011, 08:04 AM
Rhea, you might be peculiar, and I'm peculiar enough, snakes aside, but the hypocritical love-hating-violence-worship that much of our society craves is DEFINITELY beyond peculiar, and quite over the line of pathological.
Returning to just rudeness: in today's economic reality, I'd think twice before having a jerk fired. Jerks can be supporting families who weren't rude to me, and I may be turning an angry person into a desperate one. I prefer jerks to criminals.

kibakiba
07-08-2011, 09:47 AM
I also prefer jerks to criminals. I would rather my leg be slammed in the door and deal with it, than to cause someone to become desperate after being fired.

I didn't think about it at the time, but where he's from, I don't think women are respected, so perhaps since he moved here not too long ago (he had a hard time speaking English), maybe he just doesn't know any better. I've met a lot of drivers like that, and they don't understand it because they grew up in a culture where women were below men at all times. I personally don't like being disrespected, but it's something you have to deal with, I guess.

Mommy2many
07-08-2011, 10:17 AM
Perhaps it was a bad day, or something quite terrible was going on in his life at the time. Again, maybe it's just rudeness. With rudeness, many of those people are that way frequently, so if you get him again you may have your answer. I would take the wait and see approach. We shouldn't be judged on one moment in time. If the behavior continues, report it.

Frogger is constantly in his water dish... Should I mist his tank a bit more, or leave it alone? The care sheets I've seen don't say how humid it should be in there, and are for adults, so I don't know if he needs more humidity than an adult would.

Hailee asked if she could have a sample of fudge so we headed over to the vendor.

I don't have a hyrgometer, but I can tell if its drier or more humid. Besides, he's in a one gallon tank. I doubt I'd get an accurate reading since it would be pretty close to the soil. He has a ton of sticks to climb on, that take up all of the tank.

The way I pronounce it is "con-sin-us".

ConcinusMan
07-15-2011, 03:14 PM
Pronounce it as if it were spelled to be read as an English word. The "o" actually sounds like a short "U" More like "Kun-sin-us";)

I am told that is the most widely accepted pronunciation but there really is no wrong way to say it if the person you're speaking to knows what you're saying.

RedSidedSPR
07-15-2011, 04:23 PM

ConcinusMan
07-16-2011, 10:57 AM
I looked it up in a Latin dictionary which I can't find at the moment. "Kuhn-sin-us" and it means "stylistically congruous; pretty/pleasing"

I imagine they named them that because they were pretty much all the same, and much prettier than the other species of garter found here. (northwestern garters)

They are a T. sirtalis and are very, very closely related to T. sirtalis pickeringii (Pugets). The two subspecies were only recently separated geographically by water during the last ice age meltdown but are still nearly identical genetically.

ConcinusMan
07-16-2011, 11:51 AM
I think northwesterns are prettier.

Well you have to imagine it from the perspective of the naturalists that named them. Here they are surrounded by highly variable and sometimes very drab and ordinary (probably why they are called "ordinoides") looking northesterns then they come across a sirtalis which are much larger, mostly all look the same, and are quite strikingly beautiful. Much more impressive animals. In that regard they need a name that describes them as they are in contrast with the other garters around there. And so, "stylistically congruous" (all pretty much the same in color and pattern), unlike the northwesterns) and all quite pretty. And so, since these snakes conform to the sirtalis species, they just need a subspecies name to describe them. "Concinnus" fits the bill.

Northwesterns are cool. I really like those... Just not as much as concinnus :D

However I like a normal radix, better than a lot of flashy snakes. I prefer a (even a low-red) red sider to almost any flashy snake.

It just depends. I love the pattern and color of concinnus, which, to me, tops the look of a northwestern. But I like NW enough to completely understand why you love them, so....

ConcinusMan
07-16-2011, 02:10 PM
I never even considered that they named them names like that. No idea they meant anything....do they all?

Not really. Some are descriptive such as Thamnophis sirtalis = "bush snake" and "concinnus" -stylistically congruous...

There are certain key physical characteristics that a garter snake must share with the original first described T. sirtalis (eastern garter) and it mainly deals with body proportions and scale counts. That's what makes a concinnus, SF garter, CA red sided, etc. a T. sirtalis. They comply with the physical characteristics. So there's only one name (the third name) to indicate which variety (subspecies) of T. sirtalis it is. Names like concinnus are descriptive. However, in the case of T.s. pickeringi, the third name takes after the person who first described them to science and his last name was "pickering". There are also places in the Puget sound named after the man.

Just saying not all Latin names are descriptive. Some names take after the person who first described them to science. If I'm not mistaken, "pickeringii" is Latin for "of, or belonging to Pickering (the man)"

So roughly translated, "T.s. pickeringii" basically means the same thing as the original common name for that snake - "Pickering's Garter Snake". Puget Sound garter is actually just an alternative, although more commonly used, common name.

ConcinusMan
07-17-2011, 02:20 PM
Divide the continent into vertically oriented halves. West and East. Now look at your range map again. Where does most of the eastern garters range lie now? In the eastern half of course. Radixes are in the middle portion of the country mainly. How does that come close to the eastern garter range. I don't see the distribution you're seeing. They don't call them plains garters for just the heck of it. Same goes for eastern garters.

It's just an unfortunate side effect. Shine the light of day on someone's bull, and they become hostile. Natural reaction I suppose. If I was trolling for amusement I would have come clean by now Stefan.

What I was really trying to do is to provoke people into coming back and defend their ideas about the subject matter instead of running off and/or changing the subject when their ideas are in danger of being debunked. That's the honest truth. And it's not about who's right and who's wrong, it's about getting closer to to the truth of the matter, and that is, what is anery, and what is melanistic disguised as anery. Every time the conversation starts to become meaningful, it falls apart because some people can't take the idea that they could be wrong. The only provoking I was doing was to provoke them to come back and attempt to explain why they think they might be right.

There's only one explanation why they don't do that. And that's because they're starting to be convinced that perhaps they are wrong.

Mommy2many

Saying "it wasn't personal" doesn't change the fact that it's hostile and a direct, unambiguous insult.

And that is where the problem lies. If comes from me, then I must have surely meant it to be an insult because that's what everyone is expecting from me so that's all they will be looking for. That's all they ever look for from me and so they often take things I say to be insulting even when that wasn't my intention. There was actually complement in that statement which was intended but you'll probably go ahead and call BS anyway.

Saying "it wasn't personal" doesn't change the fact that it's hostile and a direct, unambiguous insult.

Then what is this? A compliment?

He's an adult and needs to act like it. You can't stay 5 years old forever... Unless you have a serious mental disability that causes that.

It will happen again, someone will take something I say, completely wrong, and before I have a chance to explain, I'll be banned. That seems reasonable.

It boils down to a popularity contest now and since I'm not very popular with some of you, I've already lost. I don't have to do anything wrong now. It's just a matter of time.

Look, I just don't think it's worth banning.

It's just easier then censoring me and deleting my posts just because people don't agree with it or think it's hostile or insulting to their egos.

I think you'd have a chance to explain a misunderstanding, but if you play with fire, you're going to be burned, if you play with the bee hive, you're going to get stung.

I see. So from now on I'll be held responsible when people react poorly to anything I say.
Yeah. If someone misunderstands you, you're going to have to try to clear up that misunderstanding.

Just like in real life.

Now c'mon Chantel, what does that even mean? Did you completely forget what happened the other day? You got pretty upset with me but it was a misunderstanding.

We talked about it in a PM. I believe I had the right to be upset, considering the circumstances.

I tried that. Your "BS alarm went off". I was honest with you. Now look how everyone got all upset. It boils down to one statement which set Scott off and then everyone else and I told you why I made that statement but you didn't accept my reason. Was it really all that bad? Did it really warrant all of this drama? I can't say anything that's even slightly provocative even if I'm not trying to provoke drama and hostility. I'm the guy that everyone likes to say "oh no, he didn't just say that. Let's get upset about it" to. Like said, nobody seems to like a person who makes them see things in themselves, that they do not like.

Everyone has a right to feel whatever it is they feel but had you understood my statements as they were intended, you wouldn't have been upset in the first place.

This is really all your fault Joe. You started it. How dare you challenge people's ideas. Let's ban Joe. Get it? "Banjo"

You know the exact reason why I didn't understand, so why bring that up?
