yup
the space is not as huge as it looks on photo
and we still need to fit some of the "regular" living room stuff

I do sort of do tours - every interested visitor gets one
the admission part is missing though

I'm even doing some free gecko "kenneling" for two of Mikhaila's friends

drache
08-01-2007, 06:47 AM
the one's I'm taking care of are
a leopard gecko, whom I had adopted from the rescue and donated to the science dept at my daughter's school - her name is research and she even laid eggs at school (infertile though)
and
a crested gecko, named Pepper
he's a palomino and I helped Mikhaila's friend Molly to find him at the expo
Mikhaila is a bit jealous of Molly, because Pepper is completely intact
our crested gecko, Velvet, is a true rescue with a badly neglectful childhood
he's got no tail and a very crooked back and he cannot stick to glass

the fish tank and some other smaller tanks will stay 'til later this week
so I can't say that it'll be entirely over by the end of tomorrow
we're getting there . . .
then there'll be weeks of finding stuff

im very well, its 9.21 here and i am still in bed watching GMtv (naff morning tv. the best thing on) going to nip to pet store to pick up vit and calcium powder for babies as i cant get them off worms  . i wish they would eat pinkies. its sooooo much easier.
what do you work as?

Stefan-A
08-07-2007, 02:34 AM

Lulu Bennett
08-07-2007, 02:37 AM
so you are the one responsible for giving us redicules quotes and bloody expensive bills? :p how the hell do you work out these quotes lol because over here they just pull a price out of the hat and it tends to be the price that is way over the odds lol :D
not to sound as if i am having a dig!

Stefan-A
08-07-2007, 02:44 AM
:D Basically, it's based on what you've used in previous years and the price also varies depending on the price of the fuel. :D But somebody needs to update the figures every now and then. ;)

Lulu Bennett
08-07-2007, 03:22 AM
lol sounds cool. atleast your doing something with your summer lol unfortunatly over here you cannot start work till 16 (unless its a paper round) and thats when school ends so we have a lot of thugs hovering the steets. and even when they are old enough most brats don't bother getting jobs and guess what they do...yup you guessed it. they hover the streets causing trouble. quite a few go on the dole and blow all the tax payers money on drugs...
sorry my rant is over lol.

Stefan-A
08-07-2007, 04:11 AM
You can start at 15 here, I think. Most kids try to work for a month or two every summer when they are old enough. At least it keeps them off the streets. ;)

I think this is my eighth year working for this company as a temporary employee. I think it's my ninth or tenth contract. :D IMO they should soon start considering hiring me permanently. ;)

good morning
well, the moving truck came yesterday and almost all of our stuff is at the new house - mostly in a huge wall of boxes
we slept there last night
I thought I had it all under control, kept track of work clothes and everything
then this morning, weather came and I realized I had no idea where the umbrellas are
so I took a beach umbrella (IKEA - they add an optional handle attachment)
there were rivers running in the streets
I'd taken a bag of dry clothing
good thing too
despite the extra large umbrella, I was soaked all the way up to my navel
then the tracks were flooded and we ended up sitting in a tunnel for a half hour
then they rerouted the train and made it run express, so I had to walk a bit more
it's been a day already
at least it's stopped raining, but its going up into the mid-nineties today and it's looking pretty steamy outside
I am so tired and beat-up feeling, but I have to go to the market for lizard greens after work - they have been neglected for two whole days
except I did get hornworms and Henner loves those so much, he's been very forgiving about the lack of veggies

Just a reminder in case you're new to us and wonder what this thread is all about!

For those of you who are new to this thread...It kind of "evolved" into a place to post your random thoughts and nonsense while the forum is quiet....a kind of slow-motion chat room. Nothing on here should be taken seriously, but if you feel the need to say something inane, this is the place!:)

i couldnt be n because my comp started smoking last night and i am sure a laptop isn't supposed to smoke lol  and i wondered where my cigs were going lol

Would be particularly bad if it was a public computer! But it's ok in the beer garden.

Computers can be such a pain! My i-book just shows me a little file icon and flashes a question mark at me when I turn it on. I have no idea how to fix it. Back to fighting the kids for the PC. :(

I don't know if she's pregnant for sure, or if she got a little fatter. If she has babies, I'll release some as soon as they're born, then I'll see if anyone wants one, and if there isn't any interest they'll be released too. I caught the mom here so I would hope at least one baby would make it to adulthood out there, to kinda pay back for the mom.

Stefan-A

Do you think she's gravid then, Stefan?
Honestly, I have no idea and I don't want to get my hopes up. She's not fat anyway. Oh, and it's 103 days since they mated.

The weight gain came as a nice surprise, though. Weighed the female together with a hide. Together, they were 463 grams, but my memory failed me and I thought they were 465 grams the last time. Turned out it was 456. I'm such an idiot. :D So instead of -2, which I actually expected considering how she's been feeding lately, she's +7.

adamanteus
08-16-2007, 01:43 PM
Good news either way, Stefan. Unless the hide's getting fatter!

Stefan-A
08-16-2007, 01:47 PM
Good news either way, Stefan. Unless the hide's getting fatter!
Funny you should say that, I weighed the hide again, too. Last time it weighed 324 grams, today 322 :D How do you explain that? :p

So the female might actually be +9 grams. ;)

adamanteus
08-16-2007, 01:48 PM
The hide has lost weight? Is it porous in any way? Could it absorb water?

Stefan-A
08-16-2007, 01:50 PM
It's wood and it hasn't been in the terrarium for a couple of months, so I guess we are both thinking the same thing.

You could have given me an easier one. :D

adamanteus
08-16-2007, 02:17 PM
It may be that your hide is pregnant, which could be a problem. If your hide gives birth, you could end up with little holes all over your tank, through which your snakes might escape. I would always warn against the breeding of hides.

Lulu Bennett
08-16-2007, 02:19 PM
once again Oh Dear! lol

adamanteus
08-16-2007, 02:22 PM
In fact, if you have too many hides hiding in one place you could cause a situation where the enclosure itself or even the room in which it is kept becomes invisible. A kind of "black-hole effect".

Stefan-A
08-16-2007, 02:23 PM
Are hides cannibalistic? Is it ok to keep juveniles together with adults?

adamanteus
08-16-2007, 02:26 PM
You're just asking for trouble with that, Stefan. Would it truely be cannibalism, or merely a small hide concealing itself within a larger hide? It would have a certain irony, if you couldn't find your hide!!:D

Stefan-A
08-16-2007, 02:40 PM
OK, that's enough. :D

Just took my old 40 litre aquarium apart, hoping to remove all the old silicone and rebuild it as a small terrarium. It amazes me how it held together all these years, only 3 out of 5 panes are usable, two cracked while I removed the frames. Didn't even use force and I didn't bend the frames, they were already loose.

I also used salvaged parts from my 110*70*50 terrarium to make a 50*70*50 terrarium yesterday. :D

adamanteus
08-16-2007, 02:43 PM
I'm about to begin construction of another 'triple' vivarium, identical to the one in my "New Vivaria" thread. So I'll soon have six four foot vivs.

Stefan-A
08-16-2007, 02:53 PM
I still have my second terrarium empty, I only have two snakes at the moment and my next snakes will be too small for it anyway.

I thought about possibly getting a Hemidactylus group for the 50*70*50 terrarium, but I need to find some first.

I'm also considering throwing out my TV to make more room. :D

my day was spent moving the fracking fishtank

well
I did get help from a friend from my dojo (a big burly guy with a shaved head), but it was still gruelling
so now it's set up and planted, but I still need to filter it for a couple of hours at least before I can put the fish in
part of me was feeling really resentful toward the fish and I had thoughts of putting them on the menu . . .

i have done that a few times with our tank but was gutted when we found our silver shark with a silvery white glow over its black eyes. i think it had gone blind and struggled to see food with just one eye. i tried giving special treatment but didn't work. then 2 days later i found 2 guppies so i went to scoop them out then found another, then another. was gutted! i loved the shark too. it was alot more relaxed than the red tailed black shark we have.

My female is still on her odd self-imposed diet. No mice until after dark, but worms eats worms at any time of the day. What the hell is her problem..

She gets there really easily. Climbs along the ventilation holes in the walls until she gets to the power cord, then she climbs along it to the tube. :)
