there's a reason they call 'em hogs
as I said - tractor engines
they're now trying to figure out how to reproduce the sound of tractor engines while complying with emission standards
there's something for everyone, right?
I mean, if you're going to hurl about on a machine without body armor, why the heck not have fun and go for something with real zip

I'm only familiar with the Harry Potter universe through the first couple of films, but the mythology didn't seem quite complex enough to be interesting. Maybe it's a bit unfair to compare it to Lord Of The Rings, but that's a universe that has a lot of mythology behind it, most of which isn't even explained in the trilogy.
well, I kind of expected that

I like watching movies, documentaries, TV-series, reading, planning stuff, making addons for games.. And I do IQ tests for fun. :D Anything that requires a bit of imagination or provides an intellectual challenge.
But I can't say the same as your Chinese teacher, I would definitely not bear the boredom of teaching, if stu..dents' questions are the only thing that keeps you sane. :D

glad to hear it Stefan
I don't think the Harry Potter books have anything like a mythology
they're more like everyday life in a costume set with it's own terminology
as they are, they're very creative, but certainly do not bear comparing with Tolkien or the like. Tolkien is serious - Harry Potter is a bit like poking fun at the magical world
I do think the books are fun and entertaining to read and I never expected the movies to come close to the books, so I wasn't much disappointed by the previous ones, but the current one should have been a TV series - it's like a trailer for a sit-com or two

Oh I didn't mean you should compare the two directly, it was just an example of a universe that has a comprehensive mythology behind it to tie it all together and explains why things are the way they are. I don't know if there are any Babylon 5 fans here either, but I might as well have mentioned it instead. Might not be quite escapistic enough for me. ;)
Any Terry Pratchett fans here?

LotR is sooooo much better that H. Potter! and Orlando Bloom, WOW! lol but the books were fantastic but the movies kinda drag abit. i think it would have been alot better to do The Hobbit then LotR. the only reason H.Potter is better at the mo is because there has been so many of them. if LotR was still going then i think that it definatly would have beat H.Potter in the ratings war. don't get me wrong but i enjoy H.Potter but deff not as much.:D
Stefan-A
07-18-2007, 12:37 PM
I disagree about The Hobbit. It was originally conceived as a children's book, unlike the LOTR trilogy. In style it doesn't fit in.
Orlando Bloom needs a few scars and wrinkles. ;) Just watched Dead Man's Chest, even Keira Knightly looked less feminine than him. :D

Woah! I just read through a thread. It's not a very nice place Esther. I don't even know what it's about. I wouldn't tolerate that language on here, I'd be banning all the time. As I said, I'm so lucky to be a moderator on this forum...from the obvious novices to the seasoned pros, I love you all in equal measure. Lets always be this nice to each other. We have a shared interest and love for our chosen subject, and that is common ground enough for us never to become like some of these other places.

But you are absolutely right, James. This is a wonderful place with people being respectful of each other. I find it incredible how people can be so deliberately out of order.
Sadly I can't ban anyone, the forum isn't set to give moderators that power, otherwise the present biggest troublemaker would have long been sent on his merry way.

find him and pan-fry his genitalia!:D
What a fantastic idea! :D
It's a bit strange really. I have been part of that forum for three years and it has been quite important to me in the past. I guess I feel some sort of responsibilty as, since it has recently been reopened after a few months offline, there's not much sign of other people taking on the job. There's one other moderator popping in ever so often, but so far no admin has asigned new moderators despite us asking.
adamanteus
07-20-2007, 04:54 PM
That's a shame. I think that as a Moderator you need a degree of power, as we have here. It would seem it takes only a very small percentage of undesirable members to spoil a potentially great forum. I am very grateful to Jason that he trusts me enough to give me the powers he has. Yet strangely, I have never needed to use them (apart from against the ubiquitous spammers). That is because we are lucky here to have a good membership, with respect for each other. As long as I am a Moderator here this will continue to be the case...I would never tolerate our members being insulted, bullied or singled out in that way.

Nice pictures. :)
My three year old daughter has had several pet snails this year, also various ants, spiders and woodlice. They have all been called "Holly". We had Holly the woodlouse, Holly the wolf spider and Holly and Holly, her two banded snails. Bless.
My now 5 year old niece named their guinea pigs and her twin brother gave them last names. Now their family has two guinea pigs called Jenna Linnea Spiderman and Bella Linnea Spiderman. :D
Kids.. they'd make excellent pets. ;)

There are a lot of different kinds of reptiles here, but some aren't very come or they at least aren't very easy to find. Even the ribbon snakes here are rare, you see a lot more copperheads around here.

The two most common reptiles here have to be ground skinks and house geckos. There used to be a lot of green anoles here but in the past few years their numbers have tapered off.

I wonder why?
Elliot
07-22-2007, 04:53 PM
Well I've seen more geckos and less anoles during this time, even though the geckos are nocturnal and the anoles are diurnal I suspect that the growing gecko population may have something to do with it.
adamanteus
07-22-2007, 04:55 PM

Stefan, Maybe it's not totally random...maybe it's seasonal?
Much of their behavior undoubtedly is seasonal, but as far as I can tell, at what times they are active isn't. Of course, they'll start cruising when they need to find something, such as a mate or a place to hibernate, but apart from that...
Elliot

I'll have to make that more lizard safe
