So, my other leo laid her first two eggs today.
Unfortunately, I was not home when she did and advised my mom to move the laying container to my bed if she laid. So, I came home and the eggs were stuck to the bottom. One of them eventually came off while I was cutting the container to stick the piece with the eggs in the incubator, and the other one is now in the inc. with a piece of plastic beneath it. Both of the eggs seemed wobbly and a little wrinkled, do you think they'll be okay?

In my experience...Yes, they CAN be okay, but they probably aren't fertilized. Good, healthy, viable leopardgecko eggs are almost rock hard (don't squeeze them...they arent rock hard...but it looks like it...) Not wrinkled, perfectly white (depends on laying substrate).
By the way, congrats with the eggs!

Well, they are perfectly white. I have 2 other eggs in the inc already that appear to have some sort of mold on their outside. There is no smell and they aren't collapsed. Should I wipe that off?

If they still look good, I would leave them in the incubator...I've seen some bad eggs hatch...
I'm always quite laid back with eggs. Almost every egg gets a chance with me. Even when I'm completly sure they aren't fertile. I just really don't want to dispose any eggs that might have been viable...
Just as with my chameleon eggs at this moment. When laid, they where all yellow when I candled them. After a month, they still where yellow when candled...Nou, after almost three months, they are starting to turn pink and red when candled...So they defenitly are fertilized...It just takes so .... long for them to develop...

silly me had a big fright yesterday
since I've had quite a few things not go right with some animals over the past year, I am extra scared of things not going right
so yesterday when I took the water tub out of the tank with Chloe and the parietalis, I freaked when I found Chloe behind the waterdish, with a big whitish pussy looking area on her side
I went into crisis mode immediately, grabbed some nolvasan and wipes, and proceeded to the sink to rinse the area - it was high drama in my mind
it turned out to be some very fresh snake waste she had apparently crawled through and once I rinsed her off she looked fine - whew!

Here's a couple of pics from yesterday. I did decide to move Curious and Reed into the 55 gallon tank with Miriam and Mordecai, and I guess they've been together for about 2 weeks now... maybe less. It's been very interesting to see them adjust to each other-- Curious, of course, is Mr. Social and he was just like, oh cool, a bigger house to play in with more friends. LOL But omg, Mordecai and Reed have been VERY unhappy with each other!!! I'm still watching to make sure this will work out... those two still rattle their tails at each other and do these bluff strikes when they come face to face!! Miriam could care less, and her and Curious have already curled up together a few times. But for the most part, it's still M & M together and Curious and Reed together.
Curious and Reed, Best Friends!!
http://www.thamnophis.com/thamphotos/data//500/medium/two_faces_003_crop.jpg
Feeding has not been an issue. M & M and Reed eat pinkies right off the tongs. Curious was picky after his last parasite treatment-- remember how his throat seemed to be sore after the first one-- so I decided to try some worms on him this weekend-- total sucess!!!!! He ate five nightcrawlers!!!!!
So here he was downing a worm, while Mordecai and Reed, who had already eaten four pinks each, prepare to have another face off. Now... is it ok that they are still at odds?? They are not biting... but rattling and bluffing. Think they'll settle??

Lori P
04-13-2008, 06:46 PM
It's been really interesting to watch them... I didn't expect the two to act like they do. I'd never seen them-- wag?? rattle??-- their tails before. And they dive at each other's faces, but with mouths closed, from what I can see. There is indeed plenty of space for them, but if they don't find peace soon I'll have to make room for another tank because I don't want Mordecai and Reed to always feel like there's an enemy nearby, you know??

Recently, the 2007 edition of Guiness Book of World Records listed "pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis)" as the longest word in the English language. The medical term is a lung disease, caused by the "inhalation of very fine silica dust." This too was a purposely coined word, with the explicit intent of being a long word.

'Houmous' is unique in that it is the only word known to man that reads 'suomuoh' when written backwards. No other word can do this.
It also contains both bowels and incontinence, which is very rare in any language.

So, this one's a real question....;)
My answer: The same as for any other accelerating object.
adamanteus
04-15-2008, 04:41 PM
No, rate of acceleration would vary depending on the force driving the object. The force in this instance being gravity, 'free-falling' would exclude such aerodynamic objects as feathers etc.... let's say, for the sake of argument, a small steel sphere dropped from a great height.
Stefan-A

Near sea level, an object in free fall in a vacuum will accelerate at approximately 9.81 m/s2, regardless of its mass.
Which equates to an acceleration rate of 33 ft per second per second (in English money)!
anji1971
04-15-2008, 05:13 PM
Is there a specific reason that particular formula is so important to you James?
You're not planning to drop houmous of various weights from great heights or anything are you?:D
adamanteus
04-15-2008, 05:18 PM
The formula is of no importance to me Anji... I was simply trying to relieve Stefan's boredom.
Houmous, on the other hand, is very important, and should certainly never be dropped from a great height..... but if it was it would accelerate at a rate of 33ft per second every second..... just so you know.:)

Near sea level, an object in free fall in a vacuum will accelerate at approximately 9.81 m/s2, regardless of its mass.

I put my money on radix (without a doubt the most common one here), although I have seen a few Florida Blues lately. I just hope it's not a hybrid, but pretty much any species is a species I want at the moment. :D The only ones I don't need right now, are more vagrans females (unless they're really special) and tetrataenias.
The price class suggests T. sirtalis or T. radix, no particular morph.

Personally, I'd just tell her she's in my face and in my space.
Not my style. :) I prefer using practical examples and let the other person figure out for him-/herself what he/she did wrong. It's that whole "teach a man to fish" thing.

The dingbat's probably sitting at her place thinking, "Hmph.....I'm not going to move my car till that guy who's parked right on it moves his!!"
Women, even stupid ones, can be very vindinctive that way!:D

Well, she's moved it now. Haven't checked my car for scratches, dents, punctured tires, broken windshields or tailpipe bananas, but lets see if I can't find an excuse to set her car on fire. ;)

The situation so far: Black on top, orange dorsal stripe, yellow lateral stripes and 300+ kilometers away (equal to about 30€ in fuel, or 60€ back and forth). I suggested shipping and asked for pictures of the parents, lets see what he thinks.
He has read my message, but he hasn't replied.

Can somebody tell me how to tell the green tree python and emerald tree boa apart?
edit: nevermind, I figured it out for myself.

uhm...
Google (http://www.google.com)
One is a python, the other one a boa!
Hmmm, its harder than I thougt...
One of them should be Morelia viridis. The other one Corallus caninus.
I would say the main difference is somewhere in the head...but can't really name them...
Caninus should originate from Brasil, Viridis from australia.
Ah, one moment...Just got two pics from a friend of mine, Both head shots...nice comparison.

I have no idea what the scales are called, but in Corallus caninus the scales running in front of the eye towards the nostrils (above the pits) are large and form a pretty clear row. Morelia viridis seems to have a lot of smaller scales. Then there's the head shape..
Okay, I'm probably wrong, I'm just saying this after looking at a few dozen photos. :D Not after reading any guides.

I still find it hard to see. But caninus should have bigger heat receptors, all over its head / nose.

If you're ready for it...I've got some nameless pictures...You can try to guess what they are. I've only just learned the difference...But I will gladly pass it on!

Okay, it's becoming easier all the time. :D Just look at the pits and where they are located.

Dire at the moment. The so called 'credit crunch' we're experiencing is crippling the UK house building industry. My firm laid off 20 men today.... and 20 last month.

Definitely not good. The same industry is doing very well here at the moment.

Ouch! That is no fun. Any relief in sight for the industry? Or does it look like a long term "crunch"? Sorry to hear about your job situation. My husband is in the home building industry, so I know how other economic issues can affect the industry.

James, I am so sorry to hear of your work troubles. I wish the best for you, I know what a huge worry it is.
Over here, it's the manufacturing industry that always seems to be on the chopping block. We worry constantly for my husband's job, too.
I hope it picks up for everyone soon.
