I found this little one out on the river bank where a disturbing amount of ravens were grouped. My father is guessing that it's only about a month old - youngest one I've ever seen! I'm not so sure about sexing really, nevermind at this age, any chance someone could help me out with that?

First photo is before feeding, just after I got Laeddis(name from the movie Shutter Island). Yesterday it happily gulped down an earthworm and four baby stickleback fish from the local pond(I checked, no thiaminase). Tomorrow I'm headed to the pet store for some fish and possibly pinky parts. Do you know of any fish other than guppies or platies that would be good for food? The pet stores in town charge about five bucks a fish, and most of them are way too big for this little one to eat. :( Thanks for looking! :)

What a cutie! Love the red "cheeks". Could we get an under side shot of the vent area?

I like the red cheeks too.
Regarding fish, I don't know what is available because I've never bought live fish for my garters. Your best bet is to see if the shop sells frozen lance fish or smelt. Or failing that some Alaskan salmon from a supermarket and see if he'll feed on fish fillet.

I think you have a female there but an under-tail photo should nail it down. Here's a link to a thread that will show you how to sex them and show you the kind of photo we need to post for help.
Some fresh, never frozen tilapia would be good.

Thank-you! I found some frozen silversides, which I will work on getting 'him' to take, and some live neon tetras. I was only able to get two crappy photos when my camera died. I'll be away for a few days, so I won't be able to get better shots until then, if needed. So you actually can tell the snakes gender at this young age?

Thanks again!

Hmm. Would be a confident man to make a sex call based on those photos. :)

That is a baby Bella if I have ever seen one! A concinnus....my Bella has cheeks like that too. I would also say that the snake could be over a year old...Bella was much smaller than that at a couple of months...not much longer than one of my fingers. Your snake looks about the same size as Bella is now...and she is a little over a year old. Bella is an eater! She loves to eat worms, pinks, and fish. Pinks are her favorite. I feed her probably a quarter of a large pinky, or the equivalent in fish...or about half a large nightcrawler every 5 days. Beautiful find you have there!
