I had my flame, radix and ribbons out today so took the opportunity to take a few snaps. If anyone can sex the ribbon in the phots and the exact species (further than it being a Western) that would be excellent!

I'll get some of the wee infernalis, similis and my cyrtopsis over the next few days...it was feed day for them :-)

I'd suggest male.

Sweet looking T.radix - Plains Garter
I'll rock the boat and go female. I see a nice taper from the cloaca/vent. The 3rd photo shoes that to me the best. A quick glance looks male but staring at it it see a very subtle taper all the way.
If I'm wrong then I go with Chris and say male.:D

Nice escape route Steve.
I'm still seeing a slight nip in after the cloaca, then back out and no significant taper for a distance. But hey, it's not an exact science is it?

the ribbon looks like a Thamnophis proximus orarius. Great looking snakes

Very nice! How is their temperament compared to E.blacknecks?

Have your cyrtopsis lost the velvety feel yet? At two years old my two aren't as velvety as they used to be.

Nice looking snakes. I also want to go with Steve on the sex, looks like a female as well to me. I also will defer to the "alternate" answer, should I be mistaken. :)

She is fairly easy going and one of the few garters that I don't have to chase around the tank when I get them out. As for the feel...I must say I haven't noticed a massive difference in how she feels compared to the others. That said I haven't had her that long so can't say if she was different when younger/smaller.

Beautiful snakes! And that ribbon looks like she is quite comfortable being held...ribbons can be very skiddish. I'm going to say female as well. Sorry, Chris...:p.
