I remember reading somthing about popping and probing the other week, so when i saw this i thought i should share

Popping:

Popping.flv - Video - Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting (http://s138.photobucket.com/albums/q243/styx_photo/?action=view&current=Popping.flv)

Probing:

http://s138.photobucket.com/player.swf?file=http://vid138.photobucket.com/albums/q243/styx_photo/Probing.flv

This is the site it came off:

Sexing* Corn* Snakes (http://www.cornutopia.com/Corn%20Utopia%20on%20the%20Web/-%20Sexing%20corn%20snakes%20-%20intro%20to%20vid%20clips.htm)

P.S Please don't try this at home unless you are experienced in this matter!!!!! VERY DANGEROUS TO YOUR SNAKE!

Thanks Lulu.:D Good point about not trying it yourself unless you're very experienced, or have someone who is, teach you how.

You can only use the popping method on quite young snakes, before the muscles become better developed. I think it's generally safer than probing though.

I felt pretty queasy too. Does that hurt the snake?
When my dad saw the probing, he said, ''Oh, no. Don't stick that needle there! Eek! No! no, no no!:("

Mikhaila, I'm pretty sure it doesn't hurt the snake, if it's done properly. It must be pretty uncomfortable though. Stressful too.

i think it stresses the snake but i dont have a clue if it hurts. as i said tho i wouldn't do it. i think i have worked out how to tell a snakes sex by the size and shape of the tail and wether i am right or wrong i still wouldn't consider trying it!

My ole Florida Blue that was 42 inches long... well, she nailed me good during a probing.

So I don't think it hurts, but I do think it is kinda like "getting too personal"! LOL! :D

Nice examples for probing and popping cornsnakes but it had to be said that garter snakes are a little bit smaller and have different anatomie.
I was a little bit scared to see how deep the probe went by the male, this would be unable to any garter.
Further popping does not works good for any Thamnophis, radix for example are really difficult to popp.

And its to me too to say: DoŽnt try to learn this by description, photos nor video!
