Hello Everyone,

I don't currently own any snakes, right now I just have Tortoises, but I really want to get a garter snake. I am not sure what kind or any details like that, but I am here to learn what I can before I purchase. Any links or useful advice would be greatly appreciated, and Thanks in advance for all the help I will get/already get from everyone here.

Nice to have you with us. It's a good thing you are prepping before you get your snake. Garters are a wonderful. I'll post a link to the forum care sheet which should answer many question and give you a good idea for a setup. Feel free to ask any other questions you might have. If you could tell us where you are(city, state) we might be able to find you a local breeder when the time comes to get your garter.

Welcome aboard. As someone new to snake keeping you've picked the best species in the world (except maybe our Natrix natrix helvetica in the UK ;)).

Hello and welcome! As Steve said, it is great that you want to learn all that you can before getting a garter. That is the sign of a responsible snake owner :) Any questions you have, feel free to ask...that is why we are here.

Thanks for the warm welcomes, I live in Denver, CO. I probably won't be getting a snake until sometime around september. Right now all my money goes towards revamping my Tortoise Enclosures, but a garter is next on the list.

I was thinking about starting a breeding colony of feeder fish, what types would be a good one to start with? I will probably choose 2 or 3 types so that I can feed a variety. I see the list of them in the care sheet, I will read through that thoroughly tonight (I am at work right now and probably shouldn't even be posting haha) but I am more curious about the ones people have experience with and how difficult/easy it was to breed them? Is this worth it or should I just buy them from a pet store before feeding? I have/will have turtles that can eat them too so it isn't just for a snake however that is what made me start thinking about doing it.

Also what about humidity, should I have high or low humidity?
