Glad they were still around. Breeding them and reintroducing the babies back to the wild is in some ways a good idea I guess, even though it is not really natural and very much human manipulation. Hopefully people will stop running them over with cars, polluting water, and stop cutting them in half with their shovels.

well if they do get to reintroduce them they need to have all the tv/radio/satelite stations play a message what they are doing and killing them is a big fine you know so its not pointless to even reintroduce the snakes

T. e. megalops (Northern Mexican garter snake)

So, the Zoo is breeding them. I wonder if that will stop the moment they are place on the "Endangered" list. If it doesn't I hope that is a message to the zoos in CA do start a breeding program with T.s.tetrataenia (San Francisco garter snake) which they should have been doing for the last 30 years.

yea you would think. you really dont need to capture that many to start a breeding progam maybe say 6 pair so that interbreeding is less of an issue, or would it take more than that for some placed in the zoo and then release some tagged every year to keep track and see how they are fairng in the wild.
