A couple of days ago...I was beginning to wonder if Seeley, my male eastern, had escaped. I hadn't seen him come out from hiding in a couple of days. I thought he was probably just preparing for a shed...but I started to wonder. Then, my mother told me that the bottles of water that I keep for the snakes on the bookshelf next to my rack had suddenly all fallen off the shelf during the night. I thought...that must be Seeley. But, lo and behold, he was in his tank. This was Wednesday night when the bottles fell. Tonight, I was feeding. I went to get Possum (my snow radix) out of his tank he shares with Hermes (my albino checkered) to put him in a tub, and then to look for Hermes to put his food in the tank for him. But he wasn't there. I started freaking out...remembering that I had not seen him come out at night for the last couple of nights. Thoughts of him getting eaten by my cats, getting stuck in heat vents, or just disappearing permanently went through my mind. My mother said..."Remember the bottles being knocked over?". So...I started looking through the book shelf...and just as I did...a little face peaked out at me from a book on the floor. Hermes had been out of his tank since Wednesday...and apparently knew enough to hide behind a book, away from the cats, and near the warmth of the light on the babies' tank on the bottom rack. He must have climbed his tree out of the tank and then gone into the bookshelf and down to the floor when I was in his tank the other day. He seemed happy to be found...and I think we both learned a lesson!!! Thank God nothing happened to him.
